I have a question for you: this spring and summer, I'm going to be growing some tiger melons of my own, and also some kajari melons. There's room in my greenhouse for one of them, but the other will have to go in my regular garden. I live in Southeastern michigan. Which one should go in the greenhouse and which one in the garden? The one in the greenhouse will also grow on a trellis while the one in the garden won't.

I’m in the uk and we had a very cool summer, below 20c most of it (70f). Hottest day was 26! I grew ‘rich sweetness’ which is a tiger melon and it’s only just started ripening now and they smell amazing but sadly not very tasty. I think it’s likely that it’s just not hot enough here, even in our greenhouse. I also grew Minnesota midget which did very well in the greenhouse but again, not very tasty :(

Do you know if they will continue to ripen off the vine? I grabbed one from my vines early and it wasn’t quite that orange and yellow yet. But it was more like a copper color with faint green streaks. It fell right into my hand so I thought it was ready before I did some more research! 😂

This happened to us this summer, and it ripened for us off the vine! You should be good!

My cucumber beetles LOVE the Tiger melon... 😅 So much so it's become my catch crop for my other melons.

@@rootelation486 I did get one to fully ripe. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the taste compared to the other varieties I grew. I won't be growing it again 😣

I just harvested 2 but it’s really firm, even cutting into it. Could it be over watering as we’ve been getting lots of rain? The flavor was watered down and not sweet.

Good to know about the scent!! Glad I'm growing them vertically from raised beds because the forest critters will follow that smell for miles! I'll plan to have some chicken wire cut and ready once they start to pop as an added deterrent. Excited!

Oh my god, that's exactly why I spent most of my life not liking watermelon because my mom would cut it in slices and have us eat it outside and it would drip down my arm and make me itch. I don't normally like cantaloupe because it's too wet. So this sounds perfect.

I’m excited for you!! We have loved them. I’ve seen people complain about the flavor or be disappointed.. but me, my family and my neighbors aren’t getting that disappointment 😂

I'm going to be growing some Tiger melons and some Kajari melons this spring and summer, which one should go in my garden, and which one in my greenhouse? There's only room left for one of them in the greenhouse. I'm currently leaning more towards putting the tiger melons in the greenhouse.

Nice video on the Tigger Melon and a reminder that I still have seeds that I saved a decade ago. Hopefully they are still viable after so many years in cold storage; but there's only one way to find that out. I am also planting Chrysanthemum Melon and Japanese Tiger this year.

I grew tiger melon last season and is cute and pretty, I love that I can just sit and eat one right out of the garden 🪴, I also got my seeds from MIgardener and currently saving seeds by the way this year I didn’t plant them I got 3 volunteer vines is amazing 🤩

      Score!!
They are fun, I enjoy how small they are because it’s easy to just grab and eat one without too much work!
