It is a fascinating series but when you ignore the fact that Tesla would be broke were it not for the carbon credit subsidies, then you test drive a grass roots innovators' solar car, curb it (we've all done it, he wasn't pissed off) but then to give up on global tv saying "it's too wide for me to drive", you are shitting on him and his innovation and then he WAS livid. Hanna however was happy to make it another one of her comedy of errors, her presentation couldn't be worse besides her Karl Malden nose.
Teaching high school physics, my students made electric motors as part of a "project week". The idea for this came from reviewing a video from Dr. Walter Lewin, former physics professor at MIT. He did this with freshman. We had a contest, in my class, which group could make a motor that spun the fastest. A strobe light was used to measure the turning speed. Tremendous fun!
You are wonderful, I follow you in Italy on RAI Scuola, and I bought your books. Thank you Hannah for your great ability to share your knowledge with us profane❤❤
I made my first two pole electric motor when I was about 7 years old from a kit my uncle got me, had a metal green base simple in design but worked well 👌
The thing is, every part of electrical engineering can be viewed like this. It's all foundationally really simple. but with this, if you wanted to give it more torque, more speed, higher power, what would you need to do it? that's the more difficult part. Then with batteries, capacitors, diodes, transistors etc, you can build them all at home pretty easily. It's just making them small enough to be useable, and the precision that makes it hard.
I don't understand at 1:19 how come the wire doesn't glow. I understand that the energy is used for spinning when the coil rotates, but when the coil is not spinning, then the coil over the + and - of the battery is a pure short circuit
Too bad two important bits were left out: why enameled wire is used in the first place, and why and how only one side of the wire should be sanded to ensure function. As filmed, it makes it sound like spinning is an intrinsic property of a magnetized coil near a magnet.
Is this some secret code I'm only one able to understand at the small population country? There is nothing more you have for computer mouse repairs to extend it's life, but why you say - it's only ten euros and I want to count them as pounds again. You deserved Tesla model 3, but somebody won't let you work to get one and now you don't play with that as very young, you play with some Google API only because all you friends have that PC you don't have and you also about to lose your internet because as a Ghostbusters mother you were evicted.
It would be cool to see BBC do and updated vax risk assessment show with Hannah. It could start off with her apologizing for pushing the drugs on those under 50. Maths. She got it wrong.
Why? Smart people already know the truth and ignorant people can't be educated so why bother? An alien could beam knowledge directly in to your head and you would still find a way to not believe in it so there's really no point in such a show.
Once Hannah is in the thumbnail there's 100% chance that I'm going to watch.
There is nothing better than Hannah Fry explaining science. I am glad she is back. And i hope there will be a LOT more of her.
The simplicity of this built motor is exactly what makes this video so great
Really enjoying this series. So entertaining & informative. Professor Hannah Fry is a great presenter. More content like this please BBC.

@@paulpantsoff6584 *kerb. Curb means to cut back.
Thanks! It’s great! We tried this in class with my electrical engineering students !! It worked!

I got this video notified to me WHILE I’M DOING EM INDUCTION HOMEWORK
THEY ARE ALWAYS LISTENING, AND WATCHING YOU,NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO...
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Hello, I'm your friend, surveillance capitalism.
Nice design!.. simplest I’ve ever seen
Beautiful.
Brilliant!!
Physics is a wonderful thing

The whole programs are great , especially the one about GPS .
Great episode, and a kick ass sweater by the way.
"Eurekaaa!"
You are fantastic.💐
one of my faves
was the enammeled coating only removed on one side of the wire ? the assembled image shows it covering the contact area
Now she's got me looking for curly whirlies! 😍👍
You’ll never find them. They don’t exist.
A Curly Wurly on the other hand..
@@Elephantstonica Well, does your Curly Wurly exist?
I'd buy one1 😊👍
@@unadomandaperte
Aye, but they’re not as big as they used to be.
@@Elephantstonica neither is mine.🤣🤣🤣🤣

😂
Nice!
Faraday's first motor is much more intuitive and easy to understand
Hannah Fry is gorgeous she's adorable
I thought she was going to put her tongue on it 🤣⚡🖤
One some enamelled copper wire the enamel coating can be removed with a flame,
The enamel is only removed from one side of the wire. A flame would remove it all.

Michael Faraday must have seen this video when he was working at a bookshop.
1970? 1984! 💯
@dardo1982 Why not 1982?

We can't see how many turns are in the coil but there may be enough to limit the current.

Ok
What's a "curly whirly"?
What is a Curly Wurly in England? Brand of chocolate bar manufactured by Cadbury.
Now build generator
Watch the video again, but pretend she's cheating and twiddling the end of the wire to make it spin. Now it's a generator.
Why 1970?
I hope they tell us how to make our own oil and gas rig next! Granny can't stay warm this winter on an electric motor.
one item I would use would be a basic low cost electric motor.

Is this how Tesla do it?

Nope 😆
