- Pressure in Dragonball FighterZ can be a little hard to get out of, thats why its important to know how and when to perform techniques like the reflect and z-change. This video will cover the mechanics in dragonball fighterz known as reflect and z-change

Somebody recently asked about these mechanics during my last stream so I thought I would do a full video on them and when I personally use them during my matches. As always if you have a topic you want covered you can ask me here and also if you want to you can ask me over on my twitter! twitter.com/DotoDoya_boy?lang=en
DotoDoya can you put the buttons. To do this in the description
I almost never use the guard cancel lolz, that's gonna change now. Thanks for the video.
The enthusiasm in your voice has changed drastically!
Ikr he sounds like dead inside
@@cezzy_1496 no he sounds normal and in his new videos he's so fucking loud holy shit
My answer is no cuz i legit just forget about em during the heat of battle.
Hell im working on trying to block properly
Thats a good place to start!
Thats the reason why i suck at these games. I never block. Im working on it. That and remembering combos. Im still trying to find a team to fully commit to. So many fun characters too. At least im getting better at juggling and doing the quarter circle motions (it was hell and back getting the hang of that).
Don't focus on winning. Focus on improving.
The Hori fighting Commander pad is great for fighting games. Any trouble you have with quarter circles will be gone :)
Mega_Manley i am trust me. I already know i wont be beating anyone online.
If I want to brush up on these mechanics I play against the AI on 80 or more strength for a few games because at that difficulty they are incredible at using assists and corner pressure to keep you locked down until they get you with a mix up. It's worked for me but I don't hear of a lot of people using the AI as a training tool.
I also like to do this from time to time!
Not a bad idea, I haven’t even thought about that.
You could also make the ai perform a specific combo and find the window to reflect it. This is good to do when your praticing pressure to know if you have a hit confirm or not.
I can't play online because I use linux (switching back to windows soon so I can play online) and for my training I put it as a 1v3 in favor of the AI. It helped me for a while, but at a certain point you learn all you can from playing the AIs. They make mistakes that no human player would make, and they seem to have an affinity for just taking hits and not blocking. But even so, I do recommend using the AI. If your new, start at a low level, and then gradually raise it until you can comfortably beat lvl 100 AI. Once you've learned our first basic combo, train with those same AI until you've found ways to get in and use it. That, of course, will really only get you so far, so if you want to get even better, play Online a bit. Three or four matches should be enough to learn what your lacking. Take me for example. I'm good enough at pressure and blocking, but I have a trash corner game, and in my first few matches I found I over-relied on superdash to zero in on an opponent, so I broke those habits by trying not to superdash as filler against bots (I learned all this from just quick 30-40 second matches where the connection timed out due to me using Linux, so full matches should really help you improve!) The only real qualm I have with the AI is just that they don't play like people, and it conditions you to play a certain way with habits that can be hard to break. Just know that no matter how good you seem, there's always room for improvement. That's all I really got for any fellow beginners. Hope to see you guys on the battlefield!
I like how your video gets straight to the point explaining and helping new players learn compared to the very long explained videos.
I'm appreciating the beginners videos; this is my first fighter game. I love Dragonball--I'm currently watching Dragonball Super--so that's part of the reason why I'm interested in the game haha.
Dragonball super is a ton of fun to watch!
Great game to pick! Besides DBZ the game is very solid mechanically, has unique and fun features, and has developer support. The player base right now leaves a lot to be desired but I think that will change with tournament videos attracting more people.
Nice video, and the only one in which I ever heard of the Z-Change ability with one character remaining, which I would probably have never tried if not for this.
Yeah it is super useful!
I always, always, ALWAYS forget about these two mechanics. I really need to get used to using them.
Yeah it just takes some time!
Same here dude.
Im happy you made this a lot of other tutorials aren't helpful at all or are very long.
Thank you so much I have a friend I was playing against a lot and he found that it was really good to do lot of shield pressure against me and I completely forgot about these mechanics so I think this will help a lot!
I actually forgot all about z change even though I went through the tutorials. That's gonna help me out a lot. Thanks!
I'm really enjoying your content. Well thought out. Presented nicely, and very comprehensive. Keep up the great work man. I hope to see the channel grow
Thanks! I'm glad these videos are helping people out!
i really need to get better at reflect , it is so useful, especially as it can reflect a Ki blast as well. a full video on reflect and using it , consistently and effectively would be awesome. Thanks great info an explanations
Well at least now I know what I’ll be practicing today .. reflect and z change exclusively. Should be great to have these in my repertoire.
Reflect is actually quite handy for reflecting beam attacks and I believe in some cases, supers as well.
Thanks for covering these. I didn't realize I needed 1 bar to change, and I now know why I kept failing at crucial moments. Doing this at the wrong time is the equivalent of dropping your block, so it's a HUGE issue. At this point I need to discover something to escape a combo, but I'm skeptic if there's much to be done when you get hit.
I'm actually a Yamcha main myself and would love to discuss the tech with him. Spirit Ball has some insane utility. I turned around a 3 v 1 disadvantage for the win just last night with the desert bandit.
This the man that goes ," LET'S GOO.... NO NO NO PLEASE NOT THE JAR, ANYTHING BUT THE JAR. IM BAD WITH TIGHT SPACES!!!!"
I didn't know about that Z-Change vanish. Thanks for the tips!
No problem!
I straight up DID NOT realize that the block-tag used meter. Or that it still had a function on your final characters. Thanks for that info!
No problem!
You litterally read my mind bro. Good to hear it out loud lol good vids. Positive vibes to you my friend
Same to you!
Thank you for the tips. I haven't been this excited for a fighting game since mk9. I even bought a long sought after arcade stick for this game. That being said, this game is testing my skills and being pressured is making me uncomfortable and becomes very tricky to get out of. Gonna utilize these tips and try to put them into my regiment.
I didn't think the guard cancel/Z change would work with only one fighter so I don't really use it at that point.
But then I saw this and thought "Yay, I can escape from the corner now!"
Thanks for these videos really help with improvements in my own game
I really need to incorporate these mechanics into my gameplay. The only time I seem to lose hard is when I get caught in a long blockstring and eventually get mixed up.
Yo, your videos are damn useful and great! Liked and subbed. Keep up the good work man
I didn't know about the z change second use when you're alone, the more you know right
Whoa! I didn't know Z Changed worked that way with your last character.
I haven't been using them as much as I should. For Z-change I'm afraid the buttons won't register and pressing forward during pressure would open myself to attack. Same with parrying.
Yeah that can definitely happen, but with some practice it gets easier to time!
I’m in the same boat, especially if I’m in a laggy game.
You should try not have the habit of holding a direction when you don't need to, especially forward
One reason is I bet that you do a lot of accidental over head when u wanted m punch.
But it will also help execution if ur thumb is neutral on the d pad
Nice video, I honestly completely forgot about these tactics after learning them in tutorial, and now seeing how they can be used I'll definitely try and use em more! Also DotoDoya, you should think about doing character tutorials that really breakdown a fighter in depth, I can't seem to find those anywhere, or if you know of any channel that does, gimme an assist!
I think I use a decent amount of z-change, but too many raw/quick tags.
I could definitely use more reflects, as I almost never use it
Knowing when to Raw Tag comes with experience,
Just keep note on the times it works and the times u get rekt,
Also try to develop the ability to gauge what skill ur opponent is by seeing what tricks he employs and what he falls for,
It's different to reading a particular move but more like reading what type of player he is and what u can get away with.
For example if he's eating every mix up and not reflecting anything a few greedy raw tags might work, but if he's doing frame perfect option selects play it safe
thx man i was having a lot of issues with corner pressure * - *
I'm going to try these because I'm new to fighting games and everytime I get in the corner I just block and hope for the best
OMMMMMMMMMG i now know why i cant do it at times... it takes a fucking bar. gg TY my guy your vids have helped a bunch
I'll have to implement z change more often. Even though I'm not too good I'll probably enter, WNF for DBFZ in two days. I just want to say thanks for doing a great job with making informative, high quality content. I've been watching you sense before the game game out, and you're control video is why I have a PS4 Pad now. Keep up the great work. And maybe if you're ever not sure about the type of content for videos you could teach a simpler character specific combos: I'm using Blue vegeta, vegeta, and blue goku. Maybe, you could try a good BnB Blue goku combo you've found and a moveset guide.
Thanks for watching for so long and I hope you have fun at the tournament. You can learn a lot there if you keep your eyes out for good matches. I'll try to learn some cool combos and bring those guides
I know about the defensive tag mechanic but I didn't know the input and the reflect mechanic I don't use it too much but I'm going to start
Liked and subscribed your videos are quite good. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the support!
So, I'm Hit and this guy throws out a raw Solar Kamehameha and I just reflected it all and gut-checked him with a heavy and lead to a full combo for the win. I DO forget these mechanics exist sometimes, though. lol They can really help with corner pressure.
Damn bro what happened to doto, dudes a totally different being, love to see the evolution
I'm starting to incorporate z-change (the guard-cancel one) more often, and I'm learning when to use it -- specifically against attacks with a bit of cooldown like heavies/overheads/beams. But I still feel like the move isn't as good as it *should* be. I'm sacrificing an entire bar of meter to get out of their blockstring, but the changed character can be hit out of their rush-in by a simple jab. I can't help but feel like the charge should have some invincibility frames on it, that way it feels like the switch was very much worth the meter I just sacrificed.
Just got my ass handed to me in ranked and I was livid. Watched this vid and honestly, these would've been so useful in those matches lol great vid
Thanks and best of luck with the next couple of matches!
Z-Change can be hit or miss. Sometimes you can not only get away from pressure, but you can get some combos out of it. Sometimes you get even more punish especially when you're in the corner. So I think it's not the safest option. But well, I guess no defensive option in this game is 100% safe when I think about it. xD That's why you can already see crazy videos on TH-cam where guys block incredibly long combo strings and their only option is to wait for an opening. So it all comes down to how good your opponent is in pressuring you.
You should talk about dhc and how important it is
I use these all the time, z change is my go to way to switch up a character in trouble. You might still get hit as you change but normally not with a full combo. I haven't found much use in reflect though other then to disrespect your opponent and looking cool. I rather beat out their attack with something of higher priority.
Yo, this is really good info. Just a small note, though: that's a Guard Cancel, not a Z-Change. A Z-Change is just a raw tag. But this is just being pedantic; the technique is really useful regardless of what you call it.
Damn my bad! In my opinion they should of just called this the z-change way cooler of a name!
Awesome video man! Also could you show how to deal with/read dragon rushes? I feel like I can guard against basically everything but that
I'll keep this topic in mind for a video!
good video brother
I need to reflect more. Although it's worthy to note that you can't reflect on block so z-change is the only safe way to escape pressure and that costs a bar of meter. That said I didn't know that a z-change without an assist acted as a sudo vanish TIL.
DoonDryh watch the video from 1:10 to 1:13.
I havent been able to play online T.T, it never finds a Match and There are always network errors so i have to choose server constantly. I dont know why cuz i have an 8mgb conection But i Love ur vids Man keep up the good work
Strange I'm finding matches alright, glad you're enjoying the videos!
Z change saves my ass a lot
I forgot the input for Z change and I sometimes use reflect. I never want to use it too much because I will miss time it and get punished
I started using reflect when pressured but I'm still bad. I went from yellow to dark green. :/ I need to start using z change because it looks like it works pretty well.
You can change the character when pressured the character doesn't change or assist comes out only way to change character is on offensive
Mad helpful
I never forget reflect, but I always wondered how everyone does the Z change 🤦🏾♂️ my slow ass 😂😂
Really useful shit right here...not joking
I can't get the timing for Z change during a blockstring so I don't use that and I use reflect sparingly.
Cant get out if corner against adult gohan. Recommendations? Thanks
When you reflect, DON'T MASH IT TOO MUCH. You might accidentally do it more than once and get punished for it
very true, you have to be safe with it!
Thanks for the video, im currently finding it really hard to get out of opponent’s pressure. For example Goku blue’s LLL, has a low overhead. Even if i block these i’ll usually be combo’d from their next move whether it’s a super, superdash, assist etc. Is there any way to punish them after blocking their string? Usually i try to block their initial normal string (i.e LLL) then start mashing 2H but this only seems to work sometimes.
Also noteworthy that if you have a lot more meter than the opponent, you shouldn't be scared of vanishing or z-changing offensively.
Very good point!
That is exactly how someone turned the tables against me and won tonight
If your getting pressured in the corner level 3 supers are effective as well
Tim Tuggle Someone got to comeback because you did it or because someone did it to you?
Also noteworthy that "using aggressively" does not mean "spamming"
Mirikajikaari they did it to me. Aggressively, spamming, either way I fell for it lol
You can reflect Ki ultras.
What do you usually do after a successful block? I often find myself blocking and blocking without being able to counter attack, eventually I miss and they hit me.
You just have to kind of try your fastest attack and see what works. I would recommend throwing out 2 light attacks and if you get hit you know that wasnt safe for next time!
DotoDoya thank you
I have been trying to use these but I forget or I get to trigger happy 😥
Is there anyway to do a proper overhead, like manually cause I wanna try to get better at mixups and offensive pressure while having my opponent in the corner.
forward + medium!
How do you do z change?
I'm here because I auto dash even when I'm not trying to.
The z change is still foreign to me because I'm not doing it right lol
I only don’t understand something in the game. In your nickname there si like a color square in different colors (green, dark green, blue, red, rose, etc) Does that means something in online stuff?
That is your threat level, it shows how good you are basically. Here is a link to bandais tweet: twitter.com/BandaiNamcoUS/status/959640513669349378
I thought it had to do with your online rank! Threat levels make is sound so much cooler. Lol
Len Knee i thought the same thing hahaha
:D awesome. i knew how to do both but not to apply them. just finished the story. and tried playing around with android 21. shes a bit difficult it seems. maybe you can give some pointers or do a video of how i should be playing her?
I would really like to do that, I'll need some more time with her as I haven't really given her a ton of time in training!
she seems pretty tricky as she doesn't seem to act like most characters combo wise! i look forward to the video :).
man, I can't get a z-change right when i'm blocking. always call an assist -.-
Can you use reflect during a blockstring?
DarKcS2 no, but if they drop the combo it counters high and low so it's safe if they press a lot of buttons. But good players might just stop attacking and wait for you to whiff the reflect, then punish with their combo
I don't really use either, most I stick to blocking then Z vanishing. It burns my ki though so I'll try to incorporate more reflects, Z change also seems neat, although I don't know exactly what it does?... It seems like just a normal change. What's different about it?
Thank you for the awesome video!
Normally you cant change out when your getting hit, it offers you a chance to blow up your opponents offensive effort for a bar!
DotoDoya oh alright, thank you very much!
Btw, not directly related, but I found a neat little set up with Beerus.
It's three down special, and a teleport. You can combo into it, I'm not really good enough to find an amazing combo with it, but it's a set up I going messing with him.
How do you z-change tho (Xbox). Is it forward tag out button
You just press forward and the tag button of the character you want after blocking a hit
DotoDoya thanks
So I play this dude all the time and he insists on not shielding, but when I try to punish him he always does random stuff that I can’t read because he plays totally off of reacting and feel. Not sure if it’s my skills lacking in my offense and/or my defense, or I’m missing habits and am not playing in a way get him to want to shield. I beat him often but many times is just a pain to get hit by this random crap that he obviously just mashed.
Try making them play your game! Slow the pace down and force them to come to you!
What’s a good character to try to learn
If you have any favorites you should just learn those!
I want to get really good but I don’t have internet on my PS4
You can always go to local events! People on the dragonball fighterz subreddit can even help you find events near you!
How to z change using meter? i didn't now this mechaning and i am demon rank lmao
Hey can you help me please? Most of the time my connection is green or blue, but everytime I play and hit anything it lags so much and if the enemy hit anything the connection stay good. What is that?
I don't know what system your playing on but if its pc it may be something with your settings, if your on console just make sure to match with yellow bars and above only
DotoDoya Im playing on pc and I tested caual and there isn't that problem, it's only in ranked.
How to use Z change?
Can anyone PLEASE tell me if I can I run this game with a GeForce 940MX graphic card? PLZZZ I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME 😢(met all the requirements btw)
steam has a 2 hour refund period so you should be good to at least try it!
quick ? Can you reflect dragon rush?
yes!
So there's literally nothing that will get through a reflect?
If dragon rush is that grab thing then no, you can't reflect it. You can reflect beam supers. I find it too dangerous as every super except for krillins have very little chip damage anyways.
Yeah I could've sworn I've tried to reflect a grab(dragon rush) before and it just went through...
Cant you put the buttons for the things you show
sorry! I showed how to do the z-change, but the reflect is just back + the special button
I use reflect to teach children to stop pressing ki or I'll destroy everything they will throw
Bro I’m new and I’m sure what your saying is awesome
Advice but you
Need to be more helpful to begginers. Such as put the button presses in and how exactly you do certain moves and why. You seem to know a lot. Please cater towards more beginners this.
You can turn off the annoying announcer in replays.
what is a2 in ps5
ps4*
It should be one of the triggers, I don't play on ps4 so I dont know for sure sorry!
By default it’s left trigger
Wtf I can’t do it I’m annoyed
