Every day before I go to sleep, I watch pictures for the F90 generation and cry myself to sleep.
I do the same for the e39 generation :(
Sat in one in the show room, and the cost cutting compared to the G30 is evident everywhere. Cheap plastic everywhere, chintzy, and just a lack of perceived quality. On top of that, it is now absolutely gigantic, 5.05 metres, and the range is a joke, using the same battery size as in the I4 M50 when they should have used the i7 battery size.
The cost-cutting is sad, additionally the amount of weight that it gained over the G30 is shocking too. A new 530i weighs almost 4000 lbs which is what the G30 540i weighed.
The interior build quality and feeling of solidity was one of the best parts of the 5 series throughout the generations. I remember how shocked I was when I first sat in an E39. The materials are outstanding and it has some of the most solid feeling doors of any car I’ve ever experienced. Not only that, but I bet the NVH on that car is as good or better than on the new 5 series. With their quest to pull out weight, it seems like there’s more wind noise in the newer cars :/
There are people out there who will still buy/lease this and won’t ask any questions. That’s a big problem in our society.
Absolutely horrendous from BMW. If Korean manufacturers can offer way better interior quality in a car with half the prices, there is no reason for them to cut cost. Corporation greed is insane. I will just stick with my G30 M550 for another 5 years.
Yup. Even down to removing all the magnesium buttons with plastic found in a 128i.
yet you drive a Toyota with cheap plastics

I’ve owned one of these for six months now to the person that made the first comment you have no clue what you’re talking about. The materials are more premium than the S63 AMG that cost $150,000. It is a gorgeous car on all fronts.

I was never into German cars but I finally sold my 2013 BRZ and got a 2023 M240i xDrive. I see people commenting about looks and build quality on new BMWs, but as someone who has never had experience with the brand until now, I really don't have any complaints. I think the car looks great and feels great.
I wonder how much BMW cares about retaining old customers vs attracting new ones?

one thing I have noticed with the new i drive : when using the surround view camera on reverse or in general, it would not let me change my heated steering wheel or heated seats. wondering if you noticed this or if it worked for you.
"Vegan leather" -- it's Vinyl, folks. If you've ever seen Albert Brooks's movie "Lost in America," you may recall that he was hoping to buy a car with "Mercedes leather" -- vinyl.
You're right, but for what it's worth, BMW's perforated Sensatec is *very* nice. The days of "cheap junky cloth/vinyl" vs "Great leather" are gone. Sensatec is a solid standalone material. It's also very durable.
I'm glad you enjoyed the i5, it's def one of my favorite cars on the market and my favorite car on the market under six-figures (I just wish BMW would give it a 350-400 mile range then it'd pretty much be perfect)
like all 5 series its a fantastic car but in many ways its a step backwards from the g30 and even the f10
@@smar1208 the G30 and F10 def have better exteriors but the G60 takes the cake when it comes to interior (I also wish the M550i never got discontinued)
@@CarGeek360 the g60s interior looks fantastic but theres way too much cost cutting going on. compared to my g30 which was a 2018, the g60 doesnt have (even as options) soft close doors, full merino leather upholstery, leather upper/lower dashboard, stitched upper and lower dashboard, bowers and wilkins diamond surround sound (only the "basic" b&w), fragrance system, remote parking, alcantara headliner, night vision, ambient lighting seems cheaped out on in the back seats/door panels, the list just goes on and on, keep in mind a lot of these features were available on the f10 over 15 years ago. basic things like a padded lower center console, electric headrest/thigh support extension adjustment and even front seatback pockets are missing. its ridiculous how the price has gone up (significantly) and the technology and interior quality, which are meant to be the main selling points, have gone down.

@@CarGeek360 pretty sure you guys did until the lci. north america didnt even get 4 zone climate control 💀💀, anyways the g60 seems like a downgrade from the g30

I’ve always felt the 5 series was the perfect blend of sport and luxury, having owned several from the E39 to the previous gen M550i. It was fully loaded and over $90K so the i5 M60 sounds about the same. Disappointed in the lack of rear seat amenities (seat back storage, A/C controls). Also 5200 lbs is 900 more than the M550i!!! And to think the E38 740i would look smaller next to it! Not a fan of the green or lack of wood trim. But it would be a great EV to own.
I have a G30 facelift M550i and after hearing that this i5 M60 is its replacement, its safe to say i will be holding on to my v8 m550 for a while 😂😂
@@theblueneptunian8925 the replacement for the m550i is going to be the upcoming 550e. Same powertrain from the X5e, so B58 with a big ole battery. That's gonna be the one to get IMO.
@@myemailiscool interesting, i didnt know that. If they dont ruin the exhaust note then it might be worth considering. (but i still think the new 5 series looks a bit ugly lol)
Rear AC controls are an option.

To the person that wrote the first comment, they are absolutely correct that the I five should have a seven series battery that I seven however you cannot say that BMW is not luxurious and they do not use top and premium materials. You would be the only person that way

Would love to see you drive the 24 Outback Wilderness and give your impressions. Subaru has said they’ve improved the transmission smoothness and power delivery, itd be great to hear your thoughts. And they’ve gotten a dedicated transmission cooler as well just like the crosstrek, so that’s something.

Its way faster then bmw stats .. the i4 does 0-60 in 3.4 it beat the model 3 performance

Just traded my model 3 performance in for this got tired of the minimalistic dull interior and this looks far more sleek and aggresive. Someone said my m3p looked like an egg and that hit me hard 💀 so much nicer and i get compliments at every drive thru
im also going to change to the i5. coming from tesla model 3 and model y

Nice interior. But Lucid Touring drives better. Has better space. A better overall car than this. It has a transmission tunnel on the back.. LMAO. It accelerates with a wiggle when you floor it. The front and back are disconnected. Infotainment is the best. I hate fake leather and the slanted screen.

I’m on my 2nd BMW. To me this car’s styling is just meh. It almost looks like a Subaru Legacy. Couple that with its range and I’m out. C’mon BMW. You can do better.

It is amazing how porky and low-range those BMW Evs are. Quite pointless really. Teslas have much longer range, and weight almost as little as gasoline cars, too bad their interior is even cheaper.
It sounds like a vacuum cleaner, i would turn that noise off. Mind you I wouldn't buy one, BMW has embraced cheap and techy over quality. That interior is forgettable and so is the exterior design. Who cares how quick it is, that novelty wears off after a couple weeks

BMW is dead to me. Interior and exterior ugly as sin, now. Too damn big; too damn wide. Fake engine sound BS (even on gas cars). And with iDrive8 they've joined the buttonless bandwagon craze and touch capacitive stupidity.
