    Denied boarding occurs when a passenger has a valid ticket for a flight but isn't allowed to board the plane at the time of takeoff. Needless to say, it makes for a terrible start to an otherwise dreamy vacation.
    In today's video, I will share common mistakes that travelers make resulting in them being unable to board their flight. I'll also share why I ended up having to rebook a flight to Da Nang, Vietnam, costing me a total of $600! Save yourself from the stress and disappointment of having to rebook your international flight by learning what NOT to do prior to departure.
    👉 Have you ever been denied boarding & where are you going next?! Let us know why in the comments!

    Be aware the "6 month rule" (or whatever period happens to be set by the destination country) is usually 6 months from your departure from that country, not from the start of your holiday (ie. when you leave home).

    Also, they can deny you if you don't have a return plane ticket already purchased, or if they think you won't be able to afford to live there for the duration of time you're planning to be there, and will therefore require public assistance.

    A big one is missing a segment of your flight. So say, if you miss your outbound flight (or a leg of it), that usually automatically cancels your return flight - if bought as a round trip. Another is chronically missing a segment of a flight on purpose. I forget the name for this, but sometimes it's more expensive to buy a flight from City A to City B than a flight from City A to City C with a layover in City B. So you could be sneaky and buy the cheaper flight, get off at the layover and then just not take the second leg. But some airlines keep tabs on this and consider it a violation of their terms and could get you banned by an airline.

    • @daylightdaylight6612
      @daylightdaylight6612 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it would be surprising, highly unlikely that an airline would ban you for not taking the flight from b to c.

      It's true they are open in New Zealand and Australia; they have been for about 9 months. If you google "Australia's co-vid graph" you will see that they went just about to zero after their second spike. This is due to how they treated the pandemic....like a pandemic. If our country was able to do this, we would be looking like that; but we can't, unfortunately.

    I do have have a 60 day SETV but my return flight is in 90 days of arrival.
    I plan on getting a 30 day extension or book a flight when in Thailand before the 60 day mark.
    What are the chances of being denied?
    Should I get an onward?

    1:29 Hi Megan, great info I haven’t seen many other places. I have an unfortunate abbreviated name issue (someone else booked US>Italy trip via incompetent agent). Do you have thoughts on just taking the risk and going for it or will each gate agent actually review this discrepancy of documents via booking name? The airlines will not fix it, I even went to the airport in advance yesterday since the call wait times are 90 minutes. Thanks for any guidance, happy holidays! 🎄🕎😎🤷🏻‍♂️💕

    • @daylightdaylight6612
      @daylightdaylight6612 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Your name must be correct, there is a risk that each gate agent will call his supervisor if there is an issue with your name.
      If the travel agent made a mistake than the travel agent must correct it and if the airline refuse it the travel agent has to give you a new ticket on his expenses

      The quad S is not really used anymore - DHS requires airlines not to print it in the boarding pass but encode it into the QR code so that you are unaware that you have been scored as a selected.
      Applying for global entry or pre-check will solve this issue if you are constantly being scored a selectee unless of course they deny you. If they do deny you then you need to look at what events in your past are causing this issue such as criminal record.

    Ooo on the topic of visas. For Chile I was warned to not lose the entrance slip. Your passport gets stamped but they also give you what looks like a receipt. When you leave the country you have to give that paper back. If you lose it (because it's so easy to do) you have to get a replacement at a specific government agency in person during business hours. So you can imagine if you have a flight on a weekend and don't realize you've lost the paper, you'd have to re-schedule flights, spend extra on lodging etc. Not sure if other countries do something similar.

    I appreciate your videos, always learn something new. I just looked at the visa link you provide - it appears the info is free (as you point out), but it also appears to "require" payment for entry documents that, I believe, can be completed on the destination country's website, at no cost. Can you validate this. The first two countries I looked at, from the USA to Philippines or Singapore, it appeared that they were making a "free" entry document completed on the country's destination's website, but was being charged for that same document on iVisa? If I'm mistaken, I'll appreciate your insights. If I'm correct, I suspect your viewers would appreciate that heads up. Again, thanks for the great info you provide!

    My recent trip to Vietnam taught me a lesson even though I had a visa a 30 day visa once you leave Vietnam you have to reapply for the visa I think it’s a bit of a scam because you read that your visa is good when it expires but in very small print it says it is a one time visa. When you get to the airport notice that Vietnam airlines conveniently charged me $350 which Hass to be in cash! for a visa upon arrival I think it’s a bit of a scam what do you do. Really pay attention to your visa and realized that your 30 day visa is a one time visa in Vietnam I would also recommend not buying your ticket until you have your visa.

    I travel to Ireland next week to see my boyfriend and stay on his houseboat as I have many times before,
    As a US passport holder I am allowed up to 3 months there.
    BUT this time I don’t have an onward flight booked as I usually go to India after Ireland but unlikely it will be open in 3 months.
    I’m not sure which country I want to go after Ireland and unsure what will be open by then.
    I’m really worried about it.
    Thinking maybe I will book a trip to Morocco as it seems fairly easy to enter. But … what if i buy the ticket and still end up being denied to enter Ireland
    Does this sound like a good idea to you?

      If you are a tourist and not working overseas, take your photo wearing a cheap T-shirt not a name brand. This helps with the "rich" problem. Also avoid wearing name brand shoes, logo clothing, fancy backpacks, etc. Better to look clean, neat, and poor than "rich". You pay fewer bribes that way. If you are asked for $100 and you suspect it is a bribe, try showing a $20 bill and politely asking, "I'm sorry. I only have this. What can I do?". Sometimes they will accept the $20. Obviously don't do this if the price is posted on a signboard or on that government's website. Be apologetic and polite. Don't walk cocky. Your goal is to blend in and be respectful.

    My travel tip for the 15 hour nonstop LAX to Cebu PI . Eat your dinner and pop a blue valium and wake up just in time for breakfast. The Waterfront across from Mactan Airport has a breakfast buffet fit for the morbidly obese for 10 bucks . Top notch. BTW pre order a muslim meal, you eat first and get a great seafood dinner.

    I was denial entry with my tour group , my passport was valid, I had 6 pages of blank pages. Was told at the boarder that Cambodia does not count the last page ( their reason). I was the last of the 30 people to go through customs. I was asked to pay $100 US and has to be a 100 dollar bill. Our agent said my passport photo look “rich”. ??????

      There you need to book via an agency. They can book you on a fictional date where you plan to return, but you can push back your date. This is what I did when I had a sabbatical in Canada. Or you need to keep enough money to book the return flight from the country of your programme to your home country.

    27 April 23 jet2 denied me check-in to turkey from uk.
    Passport valid for 5 years
    Whose responsibility is it to have blank pages as we don't stamp pages?
    People denied in UK because passport curled or worn but ink details still valid
    Still denied even if been to that country 9 times and same flight operators
    Goodbye jet 2
    All the money taking from people

    Book a fully refundeble ticket, it's a bit more expensive seemingly but when you refund it and get your money back, then it will cost you nothing :)

    Does the US make you have a flight proving you will leave? It doesn't seem like we care because we have a zillion illegals here.

    • @cxa340
      @cxa340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - most passengers on an B1/B2/B1B2 must have a return trip booked, especially if they do not have a travel history to the US. However, older pax with a history of entering and leaving on schedule may not have such an issue.

    I have watched a couple of your videos and they are always off-point or talking about things that we all obviously know! You make your headlines catchy but them the contents are usually empty of innovative stuffs. You only keep telling travelers things that even a 5 year old kid would obviously know. Not worth subscribing.
