Dr. Blackwell. You are a marvelous instructor. As a physician I don't encounter this clarity very often. Thank you. I will watch my vitreous detachment symptoms and see an ophthalmologist .

Thank you for this excellent video. My husband is scheduled for surgery to repair a hole in his retina. This video is very helpful to understand how the hole may have been created. Thank you!

Depends on you for observation. When there is a sudden increase in floaters the issue is whether it is blood or pigment in the vitreous, signalling a retinal tear or other cause of bleeding. From symptoms alone you cannot tell it from a benign vitreous separation. Only way to know is to look in.

Thank you for your very clear explanations. I had two retinal tears treated with laser pulses yesterday, but still am seeing flashes (as well as the recent large, complex floater that made me see my ophthalmologist a few days ago). If I have two or more tears now, does that predict I will have more? I am very myopic, 60 yrs old, with dry eye, too.

had cataract surgery and was left with a Stage 4 macular hole. No floaters, no warning. Hole is 3X times Stage 4! Could nothing have been done to avoid this????

Can't see up close at all after Cataract and then laser surgery. Changed doctors and the new Dr, said macular adema. Gave me drops and then I go back to see if it helped. Nope vision worse after drops. What I want to know is there a surgery to correct this instead of dragging get this out with drops and shots?

Had cataract surgery, then retina detachment soon followed. Now dealing with cystoid macular edema where a micro pulse laser is to be used to reduce swelling in the retina.

Hi Craig. Thank you so much for the excellent videos. I am suffering from some eye disease now and my eye doctor had no idea the reason. After checking your video, I guess it my related to the vitreous. If you can give me some help about the reference you use in this video. It would be perfect.
About one week ago, I notice that a movement of my eyeball would lead to some black area come out. And it disappear when the movement of the eyeball finished. So, the black area only appear during the movement. Also, these areas can not move as the floaters. They just appear in some fix places. My doctor had checked the structure of my eyeball carefully and everything is good. I guess the only possibility is that when the eyeball moves, the vitreous pull the retina as you mentioned from 7:30 in this vodeo. But one thing I can not understand is that you said, in this case, the movement of the eyeball will cause pulling of the neuron and we can see a flash in our vision. However, what I can see is some black area come our and disappear. I have no idea why a firing of the neuron will lead to the black region instead some flash light. I would like to check some paper online. I checked the list you made at the end of the video but none of them talked about this. Could you please send me the paper you use when you talk about the pulling at 7:30 in the video. Maybe I can get some very useful information about my disease. Thanks!

      Hello there.
4 days ago I had Retinal surgery.
According my feelings and doctors went well.
Just to let you know the symptoms.
Please do not go to one Ophthalmologist if they
Don’t do a thorough check up and scan!!!!!!!!!!!
      Very important.
      Okay
      SYMTOMS..
      a) You will get these ant type of images moving along side your vision( eye ball) and ..If the problem is bigger than that, you will start getting a very quick and different colour or light flashes ( perhaps some one has put a lazer light in your eye and move them so quickly )
      b) You will get a somewhat., just imagine a thick light grey or black marker or perhaps you think is a shadow.
Or, even you think something is on your eye and if you wipe it off,, thinking, it might go away.
This mark or shadow m be on different part of you eye ball
It depends which area in the Peripheral of the ( where your optical nerve is running all along around the area of your eye.
Shadow appears in the area where the tare is happening.
******* If this is happening to you,,!
Pleasure go now at this moment!
      Do not wait till tomorrow
Surgery is quite easy to go through

Good day,, i wish to ask. if the front of the eye is not immune to vitreous traction, does it mean that the eye is still on high risk of retinal detachment even after pvd? thanks and Godbless...

Flashes at the edges of your vision is the vitreous tugging on the retina. You'll notice it more when you look to the far left or right. I have exactly the same thing. Sucks but I can't obsess about or I will fall into a depression I'll never get out of. My doctor tells me what I have right now can't be fixed or can be with risk. However, if a retinal detachment happens that CAN be fixed so I just am thankful that I have the vision I have now.
