Why backup? Can’t he be competition or a rotational option? This backup talk feels so small club mentality, I don’t want a starter and a backup, I want a quality team, not a quality starting XI. He’ll be competition for Porro and Udogie, I’d prefer to get in a LCB/LB hybrid too to give VDV competition and cover
@@merschavonia4745to be fair i think "back up" is more out of respect for Porro. He has already earnt his spot in the team where Spence is earning his place in the squad. Once the season starts it will become rotation/competition. For me Spence actully looks a little smoother carrying the ball, but it's against weaker opponents and Porro has passing range and shooting we haven't seen from Spence yet. We're at lesst 100% safe to shift Royale and not even worry about buying a replacement now though. Massive bonus 👌
@@merschavonia4745 Agree. In my opinion Porro isn’t a good or big enough defender to play in a back 4. He’d be better off as an attacking option, with a taller right back behind him. Grey and Spence can both do this. It’s no surprise we were so terrible at defending set pieces last year when Porro is essentially a midget and his mate Romero doesn’t seem capable of marking
@@jacklane3679 I both agree and disagree with you, I don’t think anyone should have a divine right to start. Porro was a liability defensively on some games last season and when he didn’t contribute anything going forward, he was basically a passenger that just lost the ball. Despite sounding harsh, I like him a lot as a player and Spence can’t make the passes he’s able of or strike the ball the way he does but he’s more physical, faster and a better carrier, a bit like a right sided Udogie. I think there are games where Porro will be more suited and games where Spence will be more natural to play. That’s why we shouldn’t talk about starters and backups imo, we should be able to adapt our starting lineup depending on our opposition. There are games where Porro will be more suited and there’ll be games where Spence is a better fit. Regardless, Porro needs to feel genuine competition
@@pauldurdin6163 Porro is a great player but I think he’s a bit overrated within our fanbase, we make him out to be one of the best RBs in the world and he’s good but he still gets bullied physically, lacks geographical awareness and is almost useless in the air. That’s why he didn’t make the Spain national team. Spence had a very good loan at Genoa. Turned up mid season without speaking the language, played both left back and right back. Couldn’t have done any more. Understand he had attitude problems in his first spell with the club, let’s hope he has knuckled down now. He is SOOOO much better than the dreadful Emerson
Archie tonight was the player that made me think wow you’re going to be something special. His composure and passing range up there with high level seasoned players and he’s 18. Wow!
Our challenge now is that these youngsters are readier than we thought for 1st team squad. Which to keep, which to loan out? Does it affect our recruitment? (e.g. Gray and Bergvall means we dont need that attaxcking midfielder. Or Devine, Donly etc). Mikey Moore as the winger we need. I think we should spend all the money on the very best 25 goal striker out there and not a value for money Jonathan david.
Sarr skipp and Emerson didn’t look good. But the young guns all looked really really good. Gray was fantastic in defense and midfield. Bergvall Moore Devine donley all of them really really good
@@douglascunningham7263 no they did not. Skipp was extremely weak in that challenge when Kobe scored their second goal. And Emerson looks very uncomfortable every single time he gets the ball. Clearly not a centerback and isn’t a good enough right back for our system.
SARR had a mare , Skipp though actually played well bearing in mind it was as a centre back for a while. Gray was fantastic first half every time he did those raking passes forward it led to something including the equaliser . Yes he gave ball away for their second goal but it was his very last touch as he was about to come off having done his exhausting 60 mins in that heat we have to remember so I'll let him off rhat , but blimey what a player and in the wrong position. Bergvall looks good too
I am sorry but Gray wasn't close to Donley today. Extremely underrated it seems, I just don't get why all overlook him. This is no Gray-bashing, he was good even with that ball-loss leading to 2-2.
Moore did well so did the rest of the youngsters, Manor Solomon showed some good moves aswell (hopefully he only get better). Sarr was very disappointing bergval took control and seem to manage the midfield.
Unpopular opinion but Gray doesn't look super comfortable taking the ball on the turn. Bit like hojberg might be better at receiving the ball facing forwards in the CM position rather than at DM
