I got to say it was great having you out there and again providing that insight to the trade for us new upcoming guys and gals in this trade/career field. Hope this is a catalyst for the podcast, the linework trade, and you as well. Keep up the great work Ryan and stay driven.
The unfortunate reality is if you want to get hired in Ontario most utilities won’t look at you if you haven’t been to a line school, but I can honestly say the vast majority don’t do any better than the guys directly off the street and they are treated like they know nothing as most really don’t.
What do you think about older guys getting into the trade? I'm 42 and have been in my current job for over a decade and I'm completely over it and looking for something new. I think I would really enjoy this type of work and the type of people I would be working around. That is the main reason I'm not happy where I am now, I can't stand most of the people I am around daily.
I'm in the northeast. I went through my local utility's line school at 42. It's DEFINITELY doable. Since then, they've hired guys even older. Guys in their 50s, I guess they have to check certain boxes. Not sure where you are, but I'd encourage you to do it, it's the BEST thing that's happened to me and my family
@@getojr90 man I literally live 10 minutes from NLC in Idaho. The cost of tuition is a challenge for me right now. I could do the 17 weeks of school and still work my current full time job utilizing some vacation hours. I'm exploring other avenues into the trades first though. Signing the union books and getting on as a groundman first would be too much of a paycut initially for my family and the travel would be tough. I could go into the electrician trade and stay home and just pick up a 2nd part time job for a bit to make ends meet while I come up through an apprenticeship.
Love the content mate, keep up the great work and sharing our stories to the world.
Cool stuff brotha. Way to go and give a round perspective of line school. Also.. great editing!

Here we go I’m gonna open the door for debate NLC or SLTC?

I smell paid sponsorship
Not at all. PLP and NLC are owned by the same company. And if ya watch it I def give a very non bias opinion.✌
