We all know that if Julie Andrews still could sing, this sequence would be with her as Mary Poppins once again. All the best lucky to the new cast and crew. But the Himalaya's that is Julie as Mary will never be topped.

Julie was asked to be in the movie but declined because she didn’t want to steal the spotlight. She wanted it to be Emily’s film.

It just occurred to me that 'tuppence', a small amount of money even then, is a defining part of the original movie. "With tuppence for paper and strings", "Feed the Birds - tuppence a bag", even a literal spoonful of sugar costs less than tuppence. Great joy can be extracted from practically little money at all. Unfortunately for Mr Banks, who has provided such a materially lovely home and is clearly loving when he has the time, this metaphor is very sombrely brought to him by his sacking from the bank (and only eventual reinstatement after he tells a vaudevillian joke). A bit leftist, then, a message, that the middle class family can't 'really' be happy without being benevolent to, and appreciative of, working-class tastes. That wouldn't ring quite so true if modernised.

Nobody is trying to,but I think people should see a film before saying anything negative,the original will ALWAYS be special,but this isn’t a remake,it’s a continued story.

Mary Poppins is a little long for a kid to sit thru. Kinda like the Sound of Music... We always shut it off after the wedding. I was in HS when I finally saw it all the way thru.
