      She successfully defended her Wednesday character's integrity from writers, producers, directors and executives who don't even understand why character integrity is an important element. Without Ortega successfully defending her character from the whims of the moment, the series would have been the same soulless tripe as is typical in streaming today.

    Let's see Ortega put her words into action then. As a producer for Wednesday season 2, we better not see her short 5 foot tall 80 lb frame easily Kung Fu beat up 3 older, stronger boys in a coffee shop again

    • @brettmckenzie8604
      @brettmckenzie8604 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get your sentiment, but almost all main characters have some plot armor. There are much worse things, in general, in a lot of other shows to complain about than that.

    • @ScottJohnson-cf8fk
      @ScottJohnson-cf8fk หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brettmckenzie8604 Wednesday has zero powers. She can randomly look into the past because the writers who in general sucked wanted a cop out so they could steal her figuring out who the monster was on her own but instead using her supernatural ability but nonetheless she had zero powers. She is a teenage girl with no powers & she physically beat up 3 boys who are all stronger & faster than her. Not to mention she one-upped Xavier during the archery scene where she just walks up without a warmup & bullseyes a shot through an apple. There is plot armor and there are female boss tropes aka the Mary Sue. If Ortega doesn't want Mary Sue characters or female "reimaginings" of male brands/characters she can start by not putting a bunch of that garbage in Wednesday season 2 since they've made a huge point to say she got promoted to producer now

    That’s at heart the most cleverest response that I’ve heard from an actress lately. Franchises like Aliens, Hunger Games, Divergent, and Avatar have been so successful. Most people do not care what gender the character is. Just write a good story and stop gender-swapping characters from existing franchises. Stop acting as if people don’t want to see a powerful female lead. The success of those franchises should be proof that they obviously don’t care.

      yeah, I figured that this statement is pretty normal. She's not against wokeness, she just doesn't like having men's sloppy seconds. No "Jamie" bond for her. Still respectable, but not nearly enough to put her on the level people are praising her at. This was not a denouncement of wokeness. It was just saying she doesn't like women being copies of men.

    Slightly disagree with your take at 2:40 - It's not so much about matching subjects to demographics - Barbie "for girls" Oppenheimer "for men". But just about not gender-swapping as a tool for activists to "let's show the patriarchy how we can F with them" and instead to create original roles for a woman to be cast in, like Alien with Sigourney Weaver which was perfect and definitely not a girly movie.
