There's a lot of reasons to do things, and trying to honor your 10 year old self is right there at the top of the list. Great work guys! I've always wanted something similar!
This is sick and I'm 14 and it's been a dream of mine for a while to have a jeep like that with a nice gun like that... I noticed u said unforntinatly when u said semi auto but u can get urself a $50 crank trigger system and pop it on the gun, it's a crank and when u turn it, it fires the 1919 faster it's basically like a slide fire stock that u would put on an ar to make it legally full auto In a way.
very cool video! I may be making something similar to mount my RPD to my TJ. Is there a way to prevent the gun from pointing in unsafe directions, such as the driver?
ahunter316 you could add pins that physically prevent it from rotating and facing certain ways. If you want to get advanced to you could have a trigger interlock that won't let it fire in certain directions. Bombers used this in turrets to prevent gunners from hitting their own plane.
You need a way to lock it so it doesn't flip around everywhere when driving. As far as actually preventing it from pointing certain directions that would be pretty difficult. Just have a way to lock it in place such as with a pin.
Kinda funny running into this one. As yesterday I ordered the parts to rebuilt a kit 1919A4. It's my very last Israeli kit & I have a double set of the 3 barrel sizes.. 308, 8X57 & 30-60. My other build was destroyed by a really hot garage fire. Years ago these kit were dirt cheap yesterday Sarco Inc wanted $1,795 for a kit, mine had only cost $245 + finishing cost. The 1919A4 is a blast to operate. I love them. But nice build on the mount. Looks as heavy duty as the 1919 itself & should both survive the bomb.
On the Jeep, did you install the rubber grommet around the clutch rod as it passes through the firewall? The scraping noise says you didn't. Is the engine an "F" head, or an "L" head? I can't tell because of the camera angle, but I suspect it is an "L" head 134 cu in flat head four. Hope you kept the 16" tires so that the speedometer reads correctly. Military non directional tires are not hard to find in that size as they are still used by the Army. Don't you love the brass radiator? Watch out for the external oil line that feeds the valve guides, if it gets plugged, you will break valve stems and gall the valve guides. Did your model come with the forcing kit (intake stack, rubber tube to the carb, waterproof distributor and plug wires? Mine did, and she is a joy to off road. Did you put lockouts on the front axle, and what kind. Mine came off a junked '62 Ford pickup, but you can buy them new now. Mine came in the original packing crates, so I had to put it together taking off the consoling of each piece. I had to recover the seats as the canvas material had rotted, and the roll bar came off a Toyota Land Cruiser cut and welded to the frame. 50mph was screaming for the little Continental flat head four with the T-90 transmission. One distinct advantage the military Jeep had, it was narrow enough to go where the modern 4WD trucks couldn't and the ground clearance was greater in it's stock configuration. Love my jeeps, have an XJ, a CJ-7, CJ-5, , CJ-3B, and my M- 131C. Have fun with your toy!
Military jeeps are very hard to find unless it's in a barn, forgotten for decades. Those that you see in running condition the owners will not sell unless you have deep pockets. You could find a CJ-5, and dress it up with a glossy O.D. Paint job with canvas covered seats. The 258 cu in engine and T-98 tranny will go highway speed, but watch your cornering - you could flip the Jeep.
Reminds me of the old Rat Patrol TV show. LoL Of course they didn't have ROPs on the WW2 Jeeps.. Will the ROPs still work with the gun mounted? With the passage of time, did the ROPs bar bend from the center mounted weight on the tube?
This was done years before I found this channel, just found this looking at archives, Ian do you still have the gun jeep, if so how about an updated video, would love to see some other weapons mounted on the old beast. I spent 18 months as an Infantry Scout Squad Leader with the 1/27th Inf (Light) (Wolfhounds) 25th Inf Div. At the time we were issued the M151A1 (Mutt) 1/4 ton trucks (jeeps). using a pedestal mounted M60 MG. I have to say it was a good job, challenging physically and mentally, we spent as much time doing patrols on foot as we did motorized, but learning to shoot a MG from the back of a moving platform aiming at other moving targets definitely improves your abilities. Rat Patrol had nothing on us, except they had M2's, LOL!
I'd love for this to make a come back ian!
I love how all dogs just give you that look that says. "Why the hell aren't you throwing my ball?!"
Derek Frankovich Guess what I’m doing right now! 😁
I love how the intro is almost identical.

ITS FORGOTTEN IAN!
That has to be the most awesome thing I have ever watched.
So, coming here from you 9 years in the future, have you thought about putting a Chuachat or FM 24/29? Or you still stick with the 1919?

How did I never come across that video in all those years???

Somewhat reminiscent of the "Rat Patrol", but you look too young to remember that.
