That "universal hip hop pattern" isn't universal. Its easy and often lazy. lets artists focus on vibe and production over rapping skill. But thankfully almost all modern rappers are capable of going further than that. The ones that couldnt have already been forgotten.
I'm starting to recognize patterns, pun not intended, in his technique: 1. He sometimes rhymed the entire sentence, and not just the final words ("The rest is empty with no brain, but the clever nerd / The best MC with no chain ya ever heard") 2. He sometimes instead pushed a rhyme on almost every quarter note ("Do not stand still, boast yo' skills / Close but no krills, toast for po' nils, post no bills / Coast to coast Joe Shmoe's flows ill, go chill") 3. He did a lot of interleaving where he rhymes the end of the next line with the middle of the previous so the new rhyme doesn't come in as jarring ("He'd take her for her masters, hit it once an' shake her hand / On some ol' thank ya ma'am an' ghost her / She could mind the toaster if she sign the poster") So it's almost like listening to a jazz drummer who is really good at connecting rudiments into one big solo.
I think there’s a genuinely good case for this being not only the best song off madvillainy but probably the best mf doom song ever or at least his best rapping ever. It’s him doing what he does best but at its most focused and his rhyming towards the middle is untouchable.

@@unkwxnx I cant take people who denigrate hip hop as a whole because of what they heard on the radio or at a party. When language is your instrument anything is possible.
People don’t realize how brilliant “Una duociano” is. 1) it only rhymes with “piano” thanks to his adorable American pronunciation. 2) it’s a deep cut reference to the opening of “Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart, which opens with the titular character counting to himself in Italian. 3) It’s an approximation of “one, two,” as in “mic check one two.”
People wear sandals when the ground is too hot to walk on with bare feet. The blue sandals may allude to the expression of “cold feet”. Usually, blue is used as a color of anxiety or “cold” emotions. So by DOOM saying “you have ‘blue sandals’” He could mean either: You are literally trying to cool off. @@noahyudkin5458I know, but it's not as nice as with English(I’m from Italy), you see, you can easily distort English words, you can bend them, you can twist them, you can change their pronunciation and accent so that you can change the whole rhyming system, and all of this is possible only with English.

That's just bar 1.

MF DOOM to this very day is nearly incomparable to ANY emcee. I’ve heard him on tracks with some of the best and his style, his CONTENT, his SKILL outlasts others and makes them look like ROOKIES. Crazy thing is, he’s not even disrespectful or dissiny A hypothetical opposer he is simply being A master at what he does and FEW can sound good on the same track as him. That’s what being A TRUE master is like. Time passes and we are still absolutely ASTONISHED at the level he was on. We knew he was great, but we never truly understood how great of A level he was at. Crazy thing is, he sounds at ease. Just imagine if he were in the state of mind to prove himself….he’s been proved himself…his standard is just beyond what we think is “serious”. Mf doom is one of my favorite emcees ever for so many reasons, but some of my favorite amongst many features are his everlasting style, his wittiness and trickery, his strong level of skill, his storytelling, the captivity of his rhymes, patterns, and subjects, his ability to hold up with other styles we thought were powerful, etc…, not to mention the NUMBER of times he rhymes, his level-headed vocals, he always seems like he never loses control of his emotions on his tracks. Knows just what he’s gonna say. Never sounds like he makes even the smallest of mistakes- i can compliment this dude all day and that’s what i mean- we didn’t truly appreciate what level of master he was and of course some of us did, but we still learn as the years pass because he didn’t just give one or two things. He offered us the future and for that, I am greatful. I can always learn A thing or two from mf doom no matter who i think is great, mf doom has it covered in almost EVERY category there is.
Well it's not really about anything, the lyrics are nonsense, that's part of how he's able to make the rhymes so great. (The other part is that he's still seriously talented.)

2. He sometimes instead pushed a rhyme on almost every quarter note ("Do not stand still, boast yo' skills / Close but no krills, toast for po' nils, post no bills / Coast to coast Joe Shmoe's flows ill, go chill")
3. He did a lot of interleaving where he rhymes the end of the next line with the middle of the previous so the new rhyme doesn't come in as jarring ("He'd take her for her masters, hit it once an' shake her hand / On some ol' thank ya ma'am an' ghost her / She could mind the toaster if she sign the poster")
So it's almost like listening to a jazz drummer who is really good at connecting rudiments into one big solo.
Imagine if MF DOOM was fluent in Italian
EDIT: I imagine this because lots of words rhyme in Italian
(also capitalized MF DOOM)
We really have plenty of lyricists in Italy but fuck yeah I'd pay to have MF DOOM rap in Italian
I'd genuinely cum in my pants
Shit he probably is. This guy is the Chuck Norris of Rap. He probably taught the Italians Italian

I think there’s a genuinely good case for this being not only the best song off madvillainy but probably the best mf doom song ever or at least his best rapping ever. It’s him doing what he does best but at its most focused and his rhyming towards the middle is untouchable.
Rip DOOM the goat. Live alone, die alone no matter who your man's is, just try to live long enough to tell it to your grandkids
I don't know if we will ever see another talent like this. Ever. rip MF DOOM
I am in the same age as MF DOOM, so have been fortunate to listen to many lyricist, No one will ever approach this gifted individual, There was a mad quirkiness but tamed and nurtured into a visionary.
I like how he inspired Earl, and I guess that's the closest we can get to him. Anyways RIP MF DOOM
Elzhi is an honorable mention. They don't have the same cadence at all, but they are both masters with schemes and patterns.

and "mas" in yellow, if "ma'am" counts right after.

"Offsides like how Warf rides with Starfleet" is perhaps my alltime favorite line from MF DOOM
What does it mean?

That subtle pause after “let me think” and the beat skipping when he says “skip” at the end just shows incredible attention to detail and just a mastery of the craft.

DOOM's utterly relentless rhyme scheme during certain parts of this masterpiece and many other songs is beyond amazing. How the man ever managed to fit so many pop culture references, double entendre's, metaphors, jokes, alliteration, and comically braggadocious lyrics in with so many surgically timed, crafted and spoken rhymes will forever be an enigma to me. He was and still is truly in a league of his own when it comes to his lyrical virtuosity.

The greatest to ever lift a mic. I will carry MF DOOM in my heart and soul forever. God Bless Daniel Dumile.
Here after learning that DOOM passed away. Legend, rest in rhymes!
3) It’s an approximation of “one, two,” as in “mic check one two.”
the unhighlighted words are just there to give your brain a break
To this day the, "OFF PRIDE TYKES TALK WIDE THROUGH SCAR MEAT, OFFSIDES LIKE HOW WARF RIDES WITH STARFLEET" is one of the hardest bars I've ever heard
“You got blue sandals”
I felt that 😭
People wear sandals when the ground is too hot to walk on with bare feet.
The blue sandals may allude to the expression of “cold feet”. Usually, blue is used as a color of anxiety or “cold” emotions. So by DOOM saying “you have ‘blue sandals’” He could mean either:
You are literally trying to cool off. (its too hot to handle)
You are too cowardly to stand, or accost the heat the Villain is bringing. This wearing “blue” sandals.
I swear I started crying just because no one will ever be better than this man.

Man, I always regret the fact that I wasn’t born in USA and English is not my main language. So even if I try really hard I usually get only the 5 or 10% of the lyrical content of any rap songs and this is driving me crazy! Holy respect for MF DOOM, he’s a great rapper, a great lyricist!
You can rap in your own language!
@@noahyudkin5458I know, but it's not as nice as with English(I’m from Italy), you see, you can easily distort English words, you can bend them, you can twist them, you can change their pronunciation and accent so that you can change the whole rhyming system, and all of this is possible only with English.
@@markdragon9395 I'm also Italian but English is basically my first language at this point but there is so much complexity and references in DOOM's music that it's like the final boss of English. Truly incredible work.
For what it's worth, DOOM is so complex that even as a native English speaker I have to listen multiple times before I even feel close to real comprehension. By the time you've figured out what he's saying, he's already two lines ahead of you. So don't judge yourself for not keeping up with DOOM - no one else can either
As an american, i can barely understand what MF DOOM is saying half the time but hes still hard 🔥
DOOM SINGS SOPRANO LIKE 'UNA DUOCIANO'
RIP DOOM, BEST MF'ing Supervillain to ever exist.
MF DOOM is in my opinion the best lyricist of all time. Not only the way he manages to rhyme literally every word that comes out of his mouth, a lot of the stuff he says has much more depth than most rappers, like "Everything that glitters aint fish scale, lemme think dot let her faint get Ishmael," because no one else except MF would come up with a bar that complicated. This guy reminds us that rap music is a form of poetry.
It’s genuinely too good for me to comprehend right now. I’m too fkn stoned and all I can do it sit in actual awe watching these colours and hearing his pure talent dripping off every line.

"The rest is empty with no brain"= 98% of rappers who are not wordsmiths on DOOM's level
"but the clever nerd, The best emcee with no chain you ever heard"= A majority of the rappers who are popular are materialistic, but have 0 bars compared to DOOM who in the first bar drops a punchline (Best emcee with no chain you ever heard), while rhyming the beginning of the bars (The rest is empty+the best emcee) with the ending of the bars (clever nerd+ever heard) and the middle parts together (no brain+no chain). That's just bar 1.
And that was also an easy bar to clock one of the worst bars to choose from for lyrical ability
He's OK. His music gets boring to listen. Lyrically. He's great but Nas is better
@Гошо Филмара Also "the best MC with no chain you ever heard" is a double entendre as in gold chain and a slave chain (implying that most rappers are slaves to their record labels)

Rest in power to the best emcee with no chains you've never heard .
It's a shame that nobody ever dissed him. The reason is pretty obvious tho
Bro DOOM also already so incomparable with all hiphop artists in the whole history ❤

With the word Figaro, he completes 3 rhyme schemes. DOOM is truly legendary.
I don't even know what this was about, but the rhyming was just out of control.
Well it's not really about anything, the lyrics are nonsense, that's part of how he's able to make the rhymes so great. (The other part is that he's still seriously talented.)
