It was really helpful to hear you talk about this unit without actually hearing it. I wanted to know someone’s thoughts from a more simple perspective for a long time… Knob per function is absolutely the way to go, and I’m surprised more manufacturers are not doing this. Getting lost in options with small plastic devices is hell on earth for me
Hah! I really couldn't agree more regarding small plastic devices. I am glad they make small plastic devices for the price and mobility. They have a place, but having a nice selection of one knob per function devices are nice to work with. One knob per function devices become limited, but really challenge interface engineers to create something competitive against screen based devices. Screen based devices can almost compare to an endless amount of VST plugins for an engineer. So many options and things you can pack in, but the user must navigate at some point. Thanks for the comment Tony!!
Great description of the stages one traverses with this device. I'm on day 6, and even though it seems simple and it is, for the most part, the complexity of what can be done is definitely something I'm very excited about. 16 steps for each voice and pattern length of 64. The one thing I'd say I would like to see is the ability to program 64 steps, not just 16. Pattern chaining kinda solves this.
Thanks! They have a way for you to chain up some patterns but the implementation seemed strange. I may go back and mess around with it again. I remember it worked fine just not fluid like an Elektron etc. I been using the time divisions to stretch out patterns on certain tracks for now. Kinda cool way to work. Enjoy that machine!
Can't wait for mine to arrive (3+ months since the order already, expecting mine around the 2nd week of January) and I'm gonna return to this video once I get it 👊 Thanks for making me even more excited!
Im so excited for you! You will love it! And thank you for spending time watching my video. I hope it provides great value when your unit arrives. Keep a look out for more videos as my walkthrough on creating patches and tracks will be posting soon!
I own one and I love it but I completely disagree...They will definitely go down in price. Also, they are already working on a v2 and unless Erica completely ruins it, which I doubt, this one will be inevitably left behind.
Hi Vitja, I use the sends on all the Voices into my Sound Card. I have 8 channels. I send the main out from Perkons to a master channel, then all the sends go into separate tracks with FX. I can then have the dry signal on the main and all the FX send tracks are accessible by turning the send knob on each voice. This is pretty typical for my setup. I hope that makes sense. I'm not a very good teacher but message me if you have any more questions.
Thank you for a great user insight to this machine... the only drawback for me is having to always tune the voices..which is why I left the Dfam..how has your experience been tuning the voices? Many Thanks
You are most welcome!! I sold devices that wouldn't let me tune voices. However, I noticed on voice 3 when i was attempting to tune it, it seemed to step through notes. I could hear an audible step, very subtle. I have to explore more into this but could be why i havent had much of an issue getting it to sit well with my mixes.
Thanks for the replies. Got it figured out. Everything OK just me being a noob. It an excellent bit of kit. I sold my Pulsar to get this and I'm pleased I did. More accessible. Running the tempo from Angela's new work out. Then into ableton. Works at treat.
Thanks for the comment! Its a bit strange at first but really makes sense when you save a couple times. And you can change the behavior if you dont like the default work flow with Patterns and Kits.
Hi Kates, I do get a little noise when I fully crank the volume and the drive with compression. Watch your drive levels and maybe boost from the audio interface not the main out of the Perkons. I wouldn't call this box noisy but it has it when you drive it hard. Let me know what you find. Thanks.
hey bro, cool thoughts vid. I have had one for about 1 month and half, and I have not had much time to play it. I look at it a thousand times a day and want to jam on it. I had a serious problem with it syncing with me midi out of Logic and finally contacted support at Erica, and they sent me the new firmware that had came out days before, super lucky. and that fixed the midi problem so if any of you have midi issues, you probably have the old firmware. so ya , I've just been working on jobs and not much time to jam on it. maybe I will later tonight I hope. I hope you make a few vids showing some of the tricks you have learned because there are a few weird concepts to rewire the brain to.
Thanks for watching! Glad they fixed that problem. Hopefully you get some time to finally jam on it! This machine is so inviting to play. I will be putting out some workflow videos soon, so stay tuned! Have fun jamming on it! And thanks for the comment!

@3:48 you mentioned you can change the behavior of the mutes. I've looked through the manual and can't seem to find that explained? Would love if I did not have to shift + mute so curious
The kit-pattern thing/structure reminds me of my TR-8S. In fact, the sequencer on this does have quite a bit in common with the TR-8S. Honestly, when I heard sound demos of this machine when it was first released just a few months ago, I wasn't impressed. However, it looks awesome! Enjoy!!!
Totally agree on the sequencer. I didnt find the dry sounds to be that impressive from the demos either. Once I got to explore I found plenty sounds to my taste. Thanks for the comment!
@Mark Cee You're welcome. Yeah, I guess the sounds are an acquired taste. The good thing is the fact it is a drum "synth" which allows you to shape the tones (voices) to your preference.
A great thoughts/impressions video! I want to get a new drum machine soon, appreciate this! I'm not worried about the droning myself lol (I don't "drone" because I will get bored very quickly and just fall asleep hahaaha) 🙌🐀
Haha yeah I hear you! The drones could also be used in the background to add atmosphere as well. Like strange modulated noises that pass through in a subtle way. What's interesting is this machine may lead you in to areas you never thought you would care to venture. Some of the aggressive sounds have grown on me and have found a tasteful place in some of my sets. Hope you get one and enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you for the kind comments!!!

@@Noise-Maker I do wish it offered two things: resonance control and 3 more delays. I watched a guy get it to play in stereo with an external effect. Sounded badass.
