      ICM kits in recent years (say, post 2020) have really come on to be one of the better brands out there. The Beaufort was a beauty to build although the undercarriage is fiddly. But then it was on the Beaufort!

    ICM is really getting quality kits out nowadays. Looks like it goes together without a lot of problems.

      Yeah, their kits are very good, and have been for a while! I have an older 1/48 Mustang P-51-B (in Revell boxing), which has very fine details, and looks nicer than the equivalent Tamiya kit..!! I've built a few ICM 'Revell' kits before and they've gone together beautifully and have lovely levels of detail!

    that looks like a good kit Gary , never built an ICM kit before always either Italeri , Airfix , Tamiya and Revell , might have to give em a go at some point , looking forward as always to the rest of the build !!! Cheers Shaun.

      Thanks mate! ICM is well worth looking at especially the kits made in the last couple of years - the 1/48 OV-10 Bronco is superb for example.

    Going well so far Gary, looks a very nice kit.
    Quite tempted to add one to my stash from what I have seen so far. Might wait for the proper masking set though for all those windows though.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eduard is already pre-listing a PE set for the cockpit and straps so a window set won't be too long away.

    Can't wait for part two. Just an fyi I don't know if it's just me, but there seemed to be a lot of background hum on this video, just thought I'd mention it, in case it's a problem.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an annoying buzz that I thought I had filtered out - might be the lead or the connection in the camera. Probably the latter as it doesn't happen with the same set-up but recording on my phone.

  • @Mullet94
    @Mullet94 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great looking kit. I'm bit wary of ICM, had to give up on their RAF Mustang as it was beyond my skill level with no locating pins on the fuselage half's.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Locating pins on this are small, to be sure. But for the fuselage halves the wing spars really help get the alignment.

    • @thekinksfan5102
      @thekinksfan5102 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That Mustang was released 20 years ago, and I have read that their P-51s are actually second rate Tamiya copies. ICM started as a short run kit company, but later became a mainstream manufacturer, using metal moulds. So don't be afraid, just check the year from scalemates and read reviews. I don't know when exactly they transitioned to metal moulds, but post 2010 I think. I built a I-15 (2005) and a I-153 (2015), it's like night and day.

    An interesting kit which is going together very nicely. Not seen an ICM kit before now.
    The audio on this video is not up to your usual level, Gary. Background buzz / hum and your voice sounds odd / distorted in places.
    Doesn’t affect my enjoyment of watching you working your magic though!
    Best wishes from Wirral.

    Hi Gary, great video! I was wondering if you found a masking set for the canopy, or even a pre-painted canopy set? I'll buy you a coffee when I find my card!

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, according to the Hannants website the masks for this will be available in late Nov/early Dec from Eduard. They will also be producing the usual photo etch sets of instruments, straps, etc. at the same time.

    • @chrisliston6107
      @chrisliston6107 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garys_stuff Thanks Gary. I saw that and went within an ace of pre-ordering some, but Hannants haven't replied to my question about how to add Paypal to my account. In the meantime, impatience got the better of me and I've cut the masks out of making tape. I only discovered the templates at the back of the instructions half way through and can't say they helped much.
      It took me 3 hours, so no idea how you did it in 90 mins! Coffees incoming!

    Looking very good! 👍
    However, I must just comment - sorry - you have a bad ground/earth hum, or buzz coming in from what I'm guessing is a different microphone setup?
    On your earlier videos it wasn't present, but just in the last couple, it has been very noticeable.... Something is reacting badly and creating this ground loop, if that's what it is; it may be a bad cable as it does fluctuate and change as you move around doing things.....
    Sorry...

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good of you to point it out mate. I did notice it a bit and applied a filter to the sound which I thought had got rid of it - but obvs not enough! I'll investigate...

    Wow ,what neat building kit, it looks Ike a fun build. One question when fitting the side firing gun are the hatches removed or does the lewis gun fire through the porthole? Nevermind I just watched the ICM build video.

  • @argentinianspotter
    @argentinianspotter ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I hate when model companies make you glue the clear parts first from the inside. Too much of a risk of them falling inside the fuselage. It also makes painting harder.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did have one of the transparencies from the Stirling do just that!

    • @jonbell3020
      @jonbell3020 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try glueing them in and masking before painting the interior, then carefully peel the masks off after painting and stick them back down on the outside. If you try to glue them after you’ve done the inside they won’t stick properly even with superglue because of the paint. Just did this on a Hobby 2000 tbf and it worked great….

  • @tumbleweed1970able
    @tumbleweed1970able ปีที่แล้ว +1

    why only wear and tear on the fuselage side walls and not the floor or pilots metal seat these areas would sure ly attract more wear and dust that the side walls that wouldn't get much more than a bit of scuffing and some dust etc

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      They probably would get more wear and the main reason was running out of time on my schedule. I always tend to overdo interior walls as they have low illumination when the kit is put together so they need more punchy contrast.

  • @apenza4304
    @apenza4304 ปีที่แล้ว

    The instruction sheet that came with my kit has a template for the paint masks for the clear parts. I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned this as when I tried to use the templates to cut the masks I found they were all oversized and unusable.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Didn't mention them because I didn't use them - it wasn't immediately clear to me how I would so I cut the masks on the part itself.

    • @apenza4304
      @apenza4304 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garys_stuff I taped the template to the back of clear thin sheet of acetate and then applied the masking tape to the acetate. Seeing the masks under the tape and cutting them to size was simple without having to be concerned about a slip with the knife on the clear parts. This was as easy as cutting out the uncut masks that Tamiya supplies with some kits. Fortunately I tried to fit a few before cutting all of them and realized they were about 10-15% oversized. I did in the end cut them on the clear parts as you did. Landing gear as you point out was a bit fiddly but looks good when finished. Airfix did a nice job with their Bristol Blenheim landing gear even supplying a jig for assembly. Enjoyed all your builds and look forward to your future projects.

    How do you do dry brushing?

    • @typhoon2827
      @typhoon2827 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Get a brush, a dry one. Put some paint on it. Dab most of it off. Rub the almost dry brush across whatever detail you're wanting to highlight.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I tend to use a brush that has perhaps seen better days, dab of paint on a dish, a touch on the brush then wipe on the dish until almost dry, then go to the part. To make sure the brush isn't too wet I always try it out on the part numbers printed on the sprue as they have just a bit of relief. Then wipe across the part, brush almost parallel to the surface. With interiors I try to go from the direction light will get in.
