- This video describes the Haven Knocker. It is an ultra simple engine sound generator that could be used on Low RPM model Workboats. There are many different ways to change the knocking sound and hopefully some viewers will take this idea and improve it.
Good luck with your experiments! - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
I've been an RCer for over 60 years and now trying RC sail and scale boats. Love the knocker. Thanks for sharing. Was surprised to see you are from Georgian Bay. I have been down here in NC since '68 but grew up in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. I still have a bunch of family at the Beach.
No doubt a much more cost efficient system than a sound file through a loudspeaker. The slow speed sound is wonderful.
Awesome gadget. Very clever. At slow speed it sounds like a Diesel engine with exhaust and water coming out of the exhaust tube
what a wonderfull idea. no expensive electronics needed and have a great sound. fantastic.
This is great! Real clunker boat sounds! One thing that puts me off RC boats is the noise they don't make. My own scale RC boat does sound fairly correct, but that's because it's powered by a turbine engine. I love the way you have all the adjustments.👍
Pure mechanical genius. And so kind of you to share this thing with us, which is a kind of sympathetically anachronistic to the common use of electronics in RC models.
But what I appreciate most is that your goal is not to show off with your invention but to inspire other people to bring it further. Kudos!
I didn’t even realize how awful hobbyists were until I left FPV for the wider field!!! I’m so lucky to have semi friendly people at my local shop
My family is Scandinavian and fishermen from the great lakes. I never met them obviously but grew up in a small Oregon coast fishing town coos bay\ Charleston .My favorite working boat would PE a Port orford white cedar double ender trawler .You definitely bring history to life
I'd love to try and implement this in my RC rock crawler
You can find those motors in most printers. Hewlett Packard deskjet has two. If you are stuck for a motor. Nice work
When I was a kid we did similar with our bikes. A bit of card hitting the spokes.at lower speed it was best.
I believe it sounds better than the sound generator on model rail.
As a sound guy: That is a pretty darn good facsimile of the sound of a diesel engine relative to the scale. I could definitely hear the dampening of the lid when you put the rubber band over it to hold it in place and thought it sounded better without it, a pair (or three) of small screws through the lid into the can would allow it to resonate in its full glory. I'd love to hear it in the water. Great Stuff!
Great vidio, love the idea, was thinking of a steam engine sound for 0 gauge old locos. Thanks for the morning coffee...
Nice rotary stand
Thank u. Been wanting to try my hand in this hobby for years just never had time or know how. Now that I’m fully disabled, thanks US Army, I have nothing but time. lol I will be using this for sure.
I loved your video
I have been building and flying RC plane for 50-+ years
but occasionally I enjoy building a tug boat or similar
Your boat and sound system were great on the water
Genius. I have a trawler I might try this on.
Oh the joys of retirement.. Who's got that kind of time on their hands.. Very cool.
not you!! better get to bed early you have to get up early😂😂😂😂
@@buzzedalldrink9131 yes, even when I'm sick!
@@TexasNEV kidding of course, hope all is well with you and you are not sick!!
@@buzzedalldrink9131 Oh no worries, I actually am btw.. I have an upper respiratory infection, but I'm on the back end of it. TGIF!
@@TexasNEV sorry to hear that, I hope you feel better soon!
Great idea and engineering!
Bravo Sir! Great engineering
I love it, I was thinking about making a shaker to make my van wobble but there's no more room inside.
Thanks for giving us all the details. Nice work. Appreciate your video.
That’s a great idea, sounds good
Sounds awesome at slow speeds. I wonder what it would sound like with a second "beater" at 90° to the first? Would you get a Harley V-twin style sound that becomes a deeper V block diesel?
Excellent video
Wow! What an excellent idea. It sounds truly wonderful 😄
That's pretty cool man!
Great idea for a Tesla cyber truck 😊
Have two in line and it will sound really good
You should try putting a thin layer of foam in the lid to soften the tone up a little. Just an idea.
awesome idea
😊❤nice Idee. Mr Einstein 😊
Brilliant! Great video! Congratulations! Would it be adapter for an electric r.c. plane? Lighter and smaller?
I Love it!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
"8 balls inside the can". I thought this was a family show? Very COoL and creative video. Thanks. You RoCK!!
Airgun pellets come in cans that have a screw on lid and the pellets can be melted into the keel for balast in a simple lee lead pot
Good Idea
I'd like to get one of those small steam engines that run on alcohol, and make a small charcoal furnace to power it. Would sound great, and have the potential to catch fire and sink. At least the sound and smoke would be real, as well as the tragedy if it struck any ice burgs.
I was thinking about making something more like a rattlesnake that might deter unwanted guest nice👍🏻🇺🇸
sounds like Cheech and Chong got stuck in the engine room.
Lovely sound, thanks for sharing. Have you done water trials yet, and how does the extra mechanical burden affect battery charge life?
Genial Sound
Fascinating idea, maybe I’ll try it out in a model locomotive 🚂?
Well done, sounds just like an old ' ' Clyde Puffer ' ' or the followers on a GM truck ?.
Genius 😀
Hey, you ever tried more than one knock actuators? I mean on the knocker, not just the one contact pin but put another 180° around other side. Then have two knocks per rotation. Mabey that would sound cool.......
cảm ơn bạn thật thú vị khi kết hợp với âm thanh trống
I think the Haven Knocker sounds better than an electronic system.
Excellent invention! I imagine the striking collar makes the driveshaft rotation unbalanced slightly. Would that cause premature wear on the shaft bearings, especially at higher rpm's?
Yes there is going to be more wear especially at high RPMs. The Knocker is best applied to lower RPM models like Trawlers, Tugs and Steamers. I suggest keeping the arm tension to a minimum and use light weight objects in the can. Brian RCWH
Paint shaker power!
Please please PLEASE build another one and place it next to this one. Please.
To my ear it sounds like it is to fast for old time steam or diesel engine. Maybe gear on the other end of the electric motor, or even better run a second small motor with a resistor to spin slower the propulsion motor to give that power stroke sound and speed.
Does it smell right?
G E N I U S
Great device and great sounds of a diesel driven boat, but using it on an old steam boat, I am not so sure.
Well perhaps if you used say sand or very fine pebbles in the tin, it may give more of a hissing sound. Maybe remove one of the screws on the 'cam' to only give one 'knock' per rev of the prop too. Nice fun effort!
Meet, saw a milk jug and a 4 blade prop on a electric bug.
You're a can-do kind of guy.
Are you God
