    ANSWERS:
    1. 4:30 I have a great recipe for BBQ rims/ribs. What other word looks like rims?
    2. 4:39 My cub/cup is empty. What other words look like cub? I can think of four when I include invisible sounds (hint: H) and alternate spellings!
    3. 4:46 Ugh! I am at the end of my Rome/rope! What are two other words that look like Rome?
    4. 4:53 I don't let my met/pet up on the couch. What's another word that looks like met?
    5. 5:00 Please, think no poor/more about it. What are four other words that look like poor (include alternate spellings)?
    6. 5:05 It's so nice to beat/meet you, finally! What are four other words that would look like beat?
    7. 6:08 The baby sat on his mother's lamb/lap. What two other words would look like lamb?
    8. 6:16 In yoga class, we chanted home/Om. OOPS~! Sorry. This was an example of a homophenous word error, not a homophenous sound error. 😁
    9. 6:29 My hair is a mess! I need a hope/comb. What other three other words would fit here?
    10. 7:01 Kelp/Help! I am being chased by a wild pore/boar! See number 5 for the other words that would look the same.

I just found this channel and subscribed!!! I have bilateral otosclerosis. I had a stapedotomy in my left (worst ear at that time) and did not have the other side done because it was a very unpleasant surgery to recover from. I had prolonged period of months of vertigo and I was so afraid it would never go away. It did, and the surgery was a success in restoring a good deal of my lost hearing. However, the disease is progressive, and the boney plates are again overgrowing and stopping my eardrums from vibrating. My left ear has deteriorated once again. I'm just at the level where I now have a hard time understanding conversation. My father had the same disorder, and mine was exacerbated by pregnancy. I know quite a bit of signing, and I'm trying to learn speech reading because it's how my father got by in life. He only had 15% of his hearing left where mine is about 40. I've had hearing aids in the past, but would probably look for BAHA type aids as I "hear" sound conducted through the bone much louder than the eardrum. Anyway, I've subscribed and intend to watch these over and over, and practice. THANK YOU for making these great videos for people like me!!

I have auditory processing issues and I often mishear the silent sounds and things like that, my hearing is perfectly fine but sometimes my brain lags and if my attention is elsewhere lipreading really helps! I was watching this video to help with it then I realised ive actually been doing it subconsciously all along, still ive got very reliant on subtitles so I am trying to brush up on this skill :)

It's neat that you have already been lipreading all along! Hopefully with some background information on the theory, things will get even better!

Hello. Would someone be up for helping me figure out what a character in an old movie is saying? The lips are very clear in the scene, but the audio is lost on two lines of dialogue. It's my job to replace the dialogue with a living actor. Apologies if this request is insensitive. I'm not sure what the ettiequte here would be. Here's the clip. I left in the proceeding line for context th-cam.com/video/poDktIcxEIY/w-d-xo.html Thank you!

Hi @danwool, I got parts of it. Is it possible to give me a bit more context--more of the preceding dialogue? I like a good challenge so I am hoping to crack it!

@@HEARa Great! Yes. Ernest Borgnine's character, a rich Mexican landowner, is trying to get the army to help him track down his nemesis, who he thinks is responsible for his daughters death. In the scene EB is frustrated that the army has been useless in this endeavor.
      The preceding lines are:
EB to Soldier: Then all that you have done is completely useless.
Soldier: Our mission was to clear the area of bandits and we accomplished that, now it's a problem for the authorities in Mexico.
EB: No. He'll be back soon. As soon as you go.
Soldier: How can you be so sure.
EB: Because he's threatened to kill me!
Soldier: Listen, Señor Sandoval. We can’t remain here indefinitely. We’re at war, and the Confederate Army doesn’t exist simply to defend you!
EB: ?? - MISSING LINES- ??...Goodbye!
I think the first part of EB's missing lines might be "And so what DOES the army do for us captain" but it's just a guess.
Thank you so much of giving it a try! Let me know if there's any other info I can give you.

@@danwool, I'll write down what I see, even though I know it is wrong. You know more about the story, maybe you can fill in the gaps. If you get more of it, let me know and I will give it another shot!
And so what the army choose for, captain?
      And as for you.
      Because Myra's wedding is shot.
And the confederate army's special hijinks go to jail.
      Goodbye!

@@HEARa Great! This definitely fills in some gaps, but doesn't quite make sense in the film. I dug up a very unreliable Spanish translation of the scene, which was probably embellished for Spanish audiences with little thought to what Ernest actually said, but it might give you some additional context. I'll add the translation to the TH-cam notes th-cam.com/video/poDktIcxEIY/w-d-xo.html I sure hope it's fun for you! What you've given me certainly helps. Thank you again!

    • @HEARa
      @HEARa ปีที่แล้ว

@@danwool thank you for the additional context! I am reasonably confident the first line is “I know what the army is used for captain”
I will keep working on it.
