Hey Masato, It depends on the car in question 🤓 If it had Garmin Map Pilot, then you simply purchase a new card from a Mercedes-Benz showroom which incorporates Live Traffic free for 3 years.
Another quality video Nick. also shows how user friendly all the systems are and most people will just use Google map .. it's a shame really when you pay so much for a car with Navi that no body really use
True I mean there are options there for people to use. Most people are usually drawn to a familiar name so if they see Apple CarPlay or Android Auto then they know they can get Apple Maps, Google Maps etc as you said. I’ve used them all and to be honest they are all as good as each other. Some simpler than others to program 🤓
Hey Robert, really sorry I wouldn’t know the exact breakdown of the costs. When purchasing updates for maps in cars, it’s not just the card you’re paying for, it’ll be the map data too. Some brand new models now even do Over the Air updates so there is no SD card at all. It’ll be for the actual maps themselves and the data that goes on behind the scenes

My mbux has recently completed an auto update of the sat nav, I use the Vodafone internet in the car service, thanks to one of your earlier tutorials Nick, thanks mate great work👌👍👏👏

Thanks Nick, really helpful. I have a brand new E Class with the NTG 5.5 system and was wondering how I could store a home location and hadn't found that yet, or the favourites menu with the downward nudge on the wheel from the home screen. Likewise the update as I notice the mapping is not up to date at the moment. So much on the car, only scratched the surface so far. Only observations I do have on the nav system is it seems quite slow to initialise when starting up, and when it recalculates the route it doesn't seem to choose the logical and best/shortest route to go when testing on local known roads, rather it tries its hardest to get you to the bigger main routes which are not direct and longer distances. Again a setting I am sure I am yet to find!! Thanks for all these really useful videos, a wealth of really handy tips here!
Hi Adrian, Glad you’re getting there with all of the buttons, there are quite a few! Yes all systems in Mercedes-Benz take just a couple of tics to get going but when they do they quite speedy! 🤓 Updates for the sat Nav are performed automatically when you’ve registered and set up Mercedes me. As long as you or the dealership have helped you enable this you can set it and forget about it :) Sat Nav’s generally only take you main roads, balancing fuel efficiency and of course ease of driving but they also factor in live traffic too. You can change this to do short routes, this will take you through all of the windy roads and short roads but overall could take you longer.
Great video but one quick question. I have the new GLE 2022. I would like to rename/label a destination to be able to find it easier ie Sons House. Not have destination address or coordinates. I’ve gone to favorites held down Options but only delete appears! How to I simply rename a destination so I can scroll and find it easier than addresses or coordinates?

There is a feature would be good to have covered Nick. I have a 2021 GLE 350 DE Premium Plus with towing pack. The nice thing about this is when we hook up our caravan or any trailer in fact, it asks if we want to optimise route for towing. This is not for satnav per se, but generally when car starts so I guess it prompts in some way even if you don't a have route set up but we assumed it would activate this for a sat nav route expecially. However I can't find any reference to actually what the car does for that, it's obvious what it might do, but it took us down a lane that became single track with an 8ft wide caravan last week, so it would be good to know it's limitations and it's installed "logic".

Hello Nick I've just recently purchased a 21 plate AMG A35 I'm connected to Mercedes me and I have available updates for maps and MBUX however over the air updates just doesn't seem to happen. I've spoken to Mercedes me and there as helpful as a chocolate tea pot dealership don't seem to understand what's happening or why. so I've spent 45k on a car and now seem to be hung out to dry. any other suggestions on how I can get things to work? doing some digging on the net I don't seem to be on my own here. Many thanks your videos have taught me lots of information.
You could try updating the maps manually: th-cam.com/video/myp2zP--JTw/w-d-xo.html They should happen automatically as long as you have your car linked to your account, you have a subscription, Terms of Use are accepted and it’s switched on. If that doesn’t work I’d get in touch with your local Mercedes and they should be able to help and update manually in their workshops or something PS: Glad you enjoy the videos!
Mercedes have said my satnav on the 2014 C63 is obsolete and can't be renewed, even though I have another year left on my Live Traffic. Rather annoying when I end up looking as though I'm driving through a field or it doesn't recognise a new road to advise exists etc...

Hi Nick, Suppose I am using the sat nav to navigate, showing the 3D view on the central screen (E200 Coupé - 07/2022). I can of course pinch in/out to zoom in/out on the screen. Question : after I manually modify the view by zooming in/out, I have the feeling that the 3D view is keeping/locking my choice, and won't automatically zoom in/out by itself anymore. For example after I exit the motorway where I was driving fast (and the view was more "zoomed-out), and I enter the city center where I am driving slower, I would expect the 3D view to automatically zoom in "closer" - but I have the feeling it doesn't , simply because I had manually altered the view before. You can get it to auto zoom if you like Just toggle it on in settings On your centre screen press Home, Navigation, Settings (bottom right), Advanced, then I believe it’s Map Orientation. Just toggle Auto Zoom on 🤓
Amazing videos as always Nick...re: the MBUX sat nav...you know how Google Maps usually shows you 3 different routes to your destination and you don't necessarily pick the shortest route (I sometimes prefer taking the longer route as long as I can access the M25 or M40 etc). How do I find these alternative routes on the MBUX Sat Nav? Also, how do you access the What3Words navigation by voice request...like they show in the adverts? My car is a 2022 A250 AMG Line Edition Premium Plus. Thanks as always...

Sat Nav’s usually direct you to the destination along the quickest route but I think you can change it in NAVI, SETTINGS, ADVANCED, ROUTE I’m sure it’s in there somewhere 🤓
just picked up up my A class, I changed the sat nav display to auto Day/Night but now what to change it back to day, but for the life of me I cannot find where to do this 🤔
Our 2017 MB GLC300 Sat. Nav/GPS system is completely useless. We live in newly built community in Austin, Texas. These neighborhoods were built in the last 2-5 years and the MB GPS can not find any location. I tried updating it by using Updated SD Cards that i purchased from Amazon but that did not work. I tried downloading CarPlay to connect Google Map on our iPhone with MB Navi but that did not work either. We are very much frustrated and are beginning to hate MB cars. I have noticed that MB technology is far behind other makes, especially the Japanese cars. Can you Please help me figure out how I can update the GPS (Sat Nav)?? Thank you.
I wouldn’t say that MB are behind on tech at all, it’s just that tech moves at such a fast pace, honestly you can blink and something gets upgraded or changed! 😅 So for the CarPlay question, CarPlay was announced by Apple 2015 ish. The keyword there is “announced”. Apple announced it to manufactures to implement it into their systems on their next car launch. Now I would imagine because Mercedes had already committed to the GLC which launched in 2016, it was too late to put it in then as it was already coming out. So Apple CarPlay came out on the GLC in 2019 onwards so that’s where you’ll find it on that model. Any model prior to it, won’t have it. For the Sat nav in your car, I’m guessing it might be Garmin Map Pilot, so you might have to ask your local Mercedes on how to update that one. In the UK I believe you just purchase a new card from a dealership and it’ll contain the latest maps.

Hi Nick, I am a new subscriber. I have two Mercedes with the MBUX system, one in a AMG Vito 8 seater which is excellent and have recently purchase a Motor home based on Sprinter van mechanics. The problem I have is in my previous motor home I was able to personalise the size of my vehicle so that the satnav did not send me down unsuitable roads for the vehicle. One of the principal reasons I changed the Fiat based motor home was to get Merc mechanics and the MBUX. There seems to be no ability to put in the size on the motorhome , 8m x 2.3x 3.1m. A large vehicle. Yesterday the satnav took me down a road in France which turned into a single track which when we met a 8 wheeler lorry coming the over way was somewhat distressing!! Is the MBUX system installed in the sprinter/ Mercedes commercial vehicles, if so it must have the ability to determine the suitability of the routes that are set by MBUX, if not this is a huge mistake and a danger to road users. Comments please.
Hi Ian, really sorry I wouldn’t know on that one :( Mercedes Commercial vehicles are completely separate to Mercedes Passenger cars. There certainly isn’t anything like that in passenger cars but I’m not sure if it’s different. If you get in touch with your local Mercedes commercial dealer, I would have thought they’d be able to let you know. I completely understand though, that would be useful to have!
I updated my live traffic maps as it had run out. Since then I have several alerts that stay active. I've been back to Mercedes and they say they can't update as I have the latest maps. It's annoying to have erroneous live alerts. I've got a Garmon in my GLC250D 4MATIC. Any help appreciated.

My car with MBUX is 3 year old and suddenly there is a message said that i need to pay for the navigation package to update and use the life traffic information. I don't know that i can still use the navigation when it expires (maybe with TMC) ???
Really sorry I only started covering Mercedes on my channel in 2020 so have limited videos on models prior to that. But it sounds like it might not have navigation. I know that some models of Mercedes had Garmin Map Pilot and COMMAND as an option (those are the names of their multimedia navigation systems). Garmin is available on some models as it wasn’t standard back then so you might need to add an SD card. Chat with a dealer and they can let you know how much it costs etc 👍🏼
Nick, I have the NTG 5.5 Is there any way of increasing the Font size of roads / places etc on the screen. As I am getting older I find it quite difficult to focus on the text as it is so small even when the screen is on maximum zoom. I can't see anything on the menu & was wondering if you knew any tricks? Cheers Pete
Hi Pete, unfortunately no I haven’t seen a text size increase or anything on any of the cars unfortunately :( That would be a good feature to have though!
@@npoleary Definitely, sometimes when you are looking for a road it is near impossible to see quickly, I feel that the magnification of the font is more important than all the background that is shown on screen.

Hi. I just update the navigation for my C220 W205. Works fine on road but I need to eject the sd card and insert it back every time I start the engine. "No card found" or something like that appears before do the out and back in trick. Dies anyone knows what's going on?

Nick, great video. Web research has led me to this as I have a 2017 plate C200 Sport Estate and the SatNav is woefully slow (to activate, and during navigation). The SatNav installed is the Garmin Map-Pilot, and Mercedes seem sure there are no software updates due on my car. Is there anything that can be done to improve this? I've considered buying the Navigation Pack via Mercedes Me, but it's not cheap, and there's no guarantee it will improve. As it stands I've gone back to an old dash mounted SatNav unit, as the built in navigation is not usable it's so slow. Any ideas would be warmly received.
Hey Pete, thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! Sadly as it runs off of the SD card, this is the max speed that Garmin Map Pilot operates. Just bear in mind, purchasing the navigation package on Mercedes me is just for Live Traffic info for the Sat Nav itself so it won’t make it any faster in terms of performance.

Unfortunately, this brings me to what you already know and that is that my A-200-Progressive came -without navigation- activated. I do not know if I mention it, but Mercedes Benz Argentina (not a dealer), as a courtesy, gave me a quotation of about 10,500 USD just to add to the navigation, which seems excessive compared to the cost of other packages to upgrade the car. Anyway, I already asked for a check because there is an audible noise on the dashboard while I am driving and I am not going to also live with this Do you have any idea which is the most modern version of MBUX for A class? ? As I told you I can use Android Auto, however, the touchpad does not work. I don't think updating MBUX should have a cost ..... Thanks again !!!
Hi CBH, Unfortunately no I don’t know what the latest is, it’s something I’m told. And regarding the touch pad, it doesn’t work in any of them so I’m not sure it it’s an Android thing or a Mercedes-Benz thing. If I’m honest it still baffles me that Mercedes-Benz Argentina sell cars without Navigation as it’s standard equipment here in the UK! I thought it would be standard across all manufacturers in 2020...
Hi Nick, these clips are great. Have just been to Scotland and back and noticed a couple of quirks. The traffic reports were very intermittent and when I got one it was just the last minute or so. Also on the sat nav, I couldn’t see the service stations. The sat nav did highlight random petrol stations and dealerships. Can you help or do. I need to chivvy the dealer. Many Thanks.
Hi Joy, thank you glad you like the videos! Live Traffic Information isn’t always instantaneous as there are many sources of information for this. As long as it’s coming into the car then it’ll be doing it’s job. However if you don’t think it’s being received, get in touch with your local dealership and they should be able to assist. Can you tell me if its the camera or wiring. Have Mercedes e250 2013 estate and if I do settjngs fkr camera with straight reverse lines camera works but if I change setting to get moving grid line and car sensor theres no picture do you know dk I need to buy a different camera thanks

Hey Lloyd, really sorry I wouldn’t know. I would have thought your local Mercedes should be able to help though. If I recall though, I thought that an ML 250 had either Becker Map Pilot or COMAND. Becker Map Pilot, I’m not sure how those are updated but COMAND is updated in a Mercedes workshop. They should be able to help you out though
Satellite view sadly is only on certain models, I believe it’s MBUX NTG 7 so really new ones which have been released over the past year or so. There was a satellite view on older models but it only showed you satellite view when you zoomed out. So if you don’t have it, if you can an alternative is to use Google Maps, that has Satellite view 🤓
Went to my mercedes benz dealer to update my 2019 e class sat nav. They said my car uses garmin map pilot and I would have to update the sd card myself by inserting the sd card in my pc. ?????
Hi Nick, LTI in my former 2015 C250 BT advised of traffic jams etc. both visually and vocally, in my 2020 C220d Coupé NGT 5.5 Comand I only got visual (and silent) information of additional time required but no alternative route suggestion, although my subscription to the service will only expire in Oct. 2023. My MB dealer could not solve the problem, any suggestion ? Thanks a lot - your great !
Hi Favaticus, Default settings are that NTG 5.5 will re-route automatically without notifying the user. You can change this if you wish by going to NAVI, nudge left and then either Route & Position or Settings (can’t remember off the top of my head which one). In there allows you to change the route preference, from Dynamic, Shortest, Eco Route etc. There’s also a setting in there to notify you of a route change due to traffic which should be off by default but of course change it if you prefer it the other way. Hope that helps!
Hi Nick, many thanks for your kind and quick reply. Problem is, there is no "Dynamic Route" option in my new car (while it was there in my former one), only Eco, Shortest, Quickest. I tried selecting alternatively the option for automatical re-routing and the one upon request, unfortunately no result in either case, as mentioned I only got the delay information but no re-routing at all.

Hi, on 2018 A Class AMG-Line Premium Plus using MBUX. I don't seem to be getting live traffic even though it is under 3yrs old and I have extended traffic subscription anyway. How can you tell if it's working? I don't see any red roads or get re routed like on my old cars Apple Car Play.
Hey Stuart, it runs through a thing called Mercedes me. Got a video going live on that today at 4pm! 🤓 Check back later to see it 👀 To help you know though, you can check it in multiple places. In the car, on the Navi screen with the map, you should be able to see the words “Live Traffic Information on the top right. On your Mercedes me Account, you can go to the “Manage Services” section and make sure it’s switched on in there too.
I've just purchased (April 2022) an update to my B Class (bought new in 2015) Garmin Map Pilot with the update costing £104 and Live Traffic will NOT work without an additional purchase via Mercedes Me.
Hey David, yes that’s right sadly Garmin stopped supporting Live Traffic via the SD card so there were a couple of months where Live Traffic couldn’t be renewed. Mercedes I believe then had implemented a way to offer it via Mercedes me. When this changed I put this in the description of the video: ⚠️PLEASE NOTE: When purchasing a Garmin Map Pilot SD card, they no longer include the Live Traffic subscription. Hi Nick, I have a 2016 C 63S which I believe has comand maps? I went to use the online maps and the system is definitely connected to my phone and there is a data connection but the online maps says this is temporarily unavailable. Do online maps actually work or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your videos very helpful
Hey Print Master, Online Maps and updates unfortunately only came out in the UK on the next generation C-Class which launched roughly Dec 2018. For models before this, maps are updated at a Mercedes-Benz dealership. Hope that answers your question!

Hi Nick, I just bought a 2020 A35 but came without navigation on MBUX, however, I have the NAV button on my center console and when I go to the Mercedes Me App Store, it shows that I can purchase the hard disk Nav for my car on the store and this can be loaded remotely once purchase is completed. Is this accurate? My car comes with Extended MBUX Functions as per prerequisite.

A quick question, the ambient lighting just stopped working all of a sudden on my car, the brightness it's at 100 but the lights are not working, when entering the vehicle the welcome white led strips are showing but no ambient lighting when driving the car, how can I fix this?

@@npoleary Okay will do that, I found this extremely weird, I left my car to get a car wash before that everything was fine, when I picked up the car I had no ambient lighting, I can’t connect my phone to apple car play as well as all the 3D buildings on the nav were gone, I don’t know if they somehow reset the system in the car and messed it up or it was a coincidental update.
Hi Mick, I have the MBUX in my 2019 A class and I can only put a postcode in and each time I have used it I'm always a mile away from my destination, I even tried it with my home postcode and it took me 1 mile away in the opposite direction

2015 S350 . My Sat Nav used to work but recently I notice it no longer works with '' Please insert map media , to activate navigation " on screen . Any ideas anyone ? tia
There a chance to change from Garmin to Comand or Comand to NTG 5.5? I have plenty issues with Comand in my W205 for example with not telling me to take an exit when I am on my to work and saying "You reached your destination, it is on the right" while being in the middle of the Autobahn passing the company. Or another example is when I tried to navigate to a new location and Comand would lead me to an address 1.5 miles away from the actual destination. So I wonder if an upgrade to NTG 5.5 is possible and whether this might solve my issues.
Hey Sven, sadly NTG versions are not upgradable, they’re completely different multimedia systems. I’d suggest chatting to Mercedes though to see if you’ve got the latest map versions etc 🤓

Works perfect when navigating through Mercedes MBUX it’s self. Only the touchpad the other controls on the queen and touch screen are fine. Any idea!??? Thank you
Hey Murat, It’s been a while since I’ve connected Apple CarPlay and used it that way but I don’t remember different touch pads being slow compared to others. If the whole thing felt on the sluggish side I would potentially suggest it could be the phone but if only one touchpad is I’d probably suggest speaking with your local dealership. They might be able to advise or check it out for you.
Hi, I have a Mercedes benz c300h and it's a 2017 plate, however my entire system including the navigation laggs and also laggs between changing music. How do I update the entire system? I can't seem to find it anywhere on TH-cam?
Hi Slimslimer, Unfortunately upgrades like that aren’t available on cars. From my experience I know that the systems in cars aren’t as responsive a few years ago compared to today’s systems but that’s just the advancement of tech / processors over the years. The latest cars have dedicated graphics cards and faster processors to make the whole system faster. However if you genuinely think something is wrong, if you speak to your local Mercedes-Benz they might be able to run some diagnostics and check it out for you.

Hey Antya, if you have MBUX on your car this is updated automatically via Mercedes me for the first 3 years and is then chargeable afterwards. Hey ICEWOLFSA, ooo very nice! Ah I’m not sure, in the UK 2015 A45’s typically have COMAND or possibly Becker Map Pilot at one point depending on the spec. It might be different in South Africa so I’d advise speaking with your local dealership, hopefully they can at least point you in the right direction!
If you buy a 1 yr old car with MBUX, does the 3yr updates still work? Or does the 3yr free updates stop once the car is sold..... thus new owner needs to up the updates feature. Thanks.
Hi Nick thanks for the video. I have a question on the NTG 5.5 system. I'm in London but my sat nav shows the map of Wales for some reason. I use Waze usually as I find it easier to use and more up to date. I tried using the Mercedes system recently but it didn't work. I was in Cambridge, so coming back to London the journey should have been just over an hour but the system thought I was in Wales and told me the route was 250miles and would take me over 4 hours! Any ideas how to reset or fix this issue?
Hey Mo, no problem! That’s not right :( If the system is saying you’re somewhere else than you are right now even with starting a route, you’ll have to speak with your local Mercedes and get them to have a look at it. Hope they can sort it for you!
Great vid. Can you help.... I have an ntg. 1. With nav favorites, there only appear to be a max of 10 and you only have a few characters for the rename. Is there a better way to have a larger number of favorites and give them more meaningful names? 2. I have connected my phone and it reads the address book. In nav I can select a contact as a destination, but it is really picky about the format of the address (I. E. It is poor, at decoding the text) and often fails to use the address. Do you know if an update is coming to fix this?
I’ve noticed this that the favourites menu is limited to only a few and characters are limited to a certain number of characters. I’ll be honest I don’t think so...NTG5.5 has been out for almost 4 years and it hasn’t changed in that time so I doubt it’ll change now. What I’ve found though is if you have it linked to your Mercedes me account you can send destinations through to your Sat Nav from the app. And then if you have your addresses in your contacts you can send them to the car from there.
Hey Dennis, MBUX does not use SD cards (well not in the UK anyway) as it’s all built in. Maps update automatically over the internet as long it’s switched on in your Mercedes me account.

Hey Sleek, ah most modern cars are only designed for the surrounding countries that they were made for, so for the UK, it only has European maps. Really sorry I wouldn’t know if this is possible, but if you get in touch with your local Mercedes, they should be able to advise if anything can be done.
Well also just go careful with that too, Mercedes me services are also only designed to work in the country (and surrounding) it was designed for too. Where was the car from and where was it imported too? Before purchasing I would check that it’s actually going to work. Anything these days that transmits a signal uses certain frequencies and certain countries have certain restrictions on certain ones. For example I was going to buy an Apple Watch Cellular in the USA once on holiday but I found out prior to purchasing that it would not work in the UK due to the different cellular networks and receivers.

It will only update though if the car is on so if that car hasn’t been driven for a while then it’ll continue updating when it’s next on. However if you think something’s wrong, just get in touch with your local Mercedes and I’m sure they’ll give you a hand!

I have the mbux system and am fully connected via the Mercedes me app. It tells me I have a map update (which is desperately needed as there are many missing locations on the current version I have) but even driving for over an hour it still won’t update over the air as you say. Hey D4L3, don’t worry over the air updates can take a long time, they run at a low priority so they don’t impact anything else and can take weeks to do based on average driving each day. Just make sure your car is linked to your Mercedes me account, Terms or Use Accepted and the Online Map Update service is switched on. If you are still having problems, on the first instance I’d speak with the Mercedes me help team (top left of the app). They can advise what to do next.
I bought a 2022 glb 250 from the Mercedes dealer which does not have navigation I do not like CarPlay because it uses the battery a lot what to do to have navigation

Ooo, not sure on that one Ah no problem! Glad you like them! There aren’t any settings on the car or Mercedes me for that. It just states Europe Maps (and the version number). I think you will have to speak to a local dealer for that kind of thing, I’m sure they can help though!

Hey Masato K, I believe Smart’s use TomTom for their live traffic however the new ones rely on Smartphone Integration for Sat use so don’t come with Navigation included. Basically you just plug your phone in and use that instead 🤓
Hi Nick, just a quick question, I activated the navigation updates online on my GLB200, but I'm a little confused on how the software is downloaded... is it downloaded through the car's mercedes me connection built in or will it be through my phones data once the phone is connected via bluetooth? I'm kinda worried that if it is through my phone it will consume all my data 😅
Ah don’t worry the car has it’s own data connection for that. There’s no way to link your phone in that way anyway 🤓 I think all Mercedes-Benz now use the Vodafone network but as long as you’ve activated it in the portal / app you’re good to go!

Hey Bob, as with many makes and models of cars back in 2014, satellite navigation was an option. As you have the Navi button though you can probably purchase a unit to add sat Nav to the car. If you speak with your local Mercedes then they can check which one is compatible with your B-Class.
Hey Ernie, that doesn’t sound right…there certainly isn’t anything on the system that allows you to “lock” it. Have you spoken with your local Mercedes dealership? Hopefully they might be able to take a look in person 🤓
@@npoleary Hi Nick my local Mercedes dealer had my car Friday afternoon and ran out of time due to early closing but it seems efforts to activate the touch pad control to get the sat nav to work failed and only advised a costly replacement. The car has very low mileage so disappointing to think that it could not be reactivated.
That does sound strange…really sorry I wouldn’t know what to suggest. I’ve never worked on them in that way before. Technicians in the dealerships are the ones who can advise on aspects likes this so I would assume their diagnosis is correct?

Hey ARTinox A. RODOPOULOS, I got your email, that's rather strange form your photo as it's greyed out...does the Hey Mercedes work when you talk to it on there? I know that specification can cary from country to country, it works here in the UK...I'm just wondering if it's not enabled in other countries... Have you asked your local dealership see if they can might have an answer for you? Unfortunately there aren't any settings in the car that switch this on / off. Well....not for UK ones anyway, if you head over to Home Settings System Linguatronic See if there's anything in there... Hope you get to the bottom of it!

Yes Of course I went to the dealer. and I mentioned it as well as other problems ... but here in Greece they are only interested in selling cars and after the sale ... find it yourself ... I bought GLA 250e 25 days ago .... with full equipment! !!! Here in Greece Mercedes treats us like third-world people.. sell cars and on the menu do not have the Greek language..!! Hey Randy, On your centre screen (multimedia system), press Home and swipe across to Navi. And then on the screen behind your steering wheel (your instrument cluster) again press Home and swipe across to Navi for that one too. Depending on the specification of your A-Class, you may be able to do some extra things by swiping down on this section and it may change the look. All comes down to your screen size and spec Hope that helps! 🤓

Thank you! 🙏 Quite a few manufacturers have the tyre pressure readings in KPA, not my preferred as I’d like PSI but unfortunately it can’t be changed in the car. However if you use Mercedes me, you can change it in settings in the app (top left).

Hey Mivhael, all UK cars have Navi included as it features the latest multimedia System called MBUX. I do know that specification can vary greatly between country to country. Where abouts are you based?

If it had Garmin Map Pilot, then you simply purchase a new card from a Mercedes-Benz showroom which incorporates Live Traffic free for 3 years.
Another quality video Nick. also shows how user friendly all the systems are and most people will just use Google map .. it's a shame really when you pay so much for a car with Navi that no body really use
True I mean there are options there for people to use. Most people are usually drawn to a familiar name so if they see Apple CarPlay or Android Auto then they know they can get Apple Maps, Google Maps etc as you said. I’ve used them all and to be honest they are all as good as each other. Some simpler than others to program 🤓

Hey Robert, really sorry I wouldn’t know the exact breakdown of the costs. When purchasing updates for maps in cars, it’s not just the card you’re paying for, it’ll be the map data too. Some brand new models now even do Over the Air updates so there is no SD card at all. It’ll be for the actual maps themselves and the data that goes on behind the scenes

Sadly you can’t most cars these days will always start in their default mode so you just have to changed it after starting if you wanted to.

I have a brand new E Class with the NTG 5.5 system and was wondering how I could store a home location and hadn't found that yet, or the favourites menu with the downward nudge on the wheel from the home screen. Likewise the update as I notice the mapping is not up to date at the moment. So much on the car, only scratched the surface so far. Only observations I do have on the nav system is it seems quite slow to initialise when starting up, and when it recalculates the route it doesn't seem to choose the logical and best/shortest route to go when testing on local known roads, rather it tries its hardest to get you to the bigger main routes which are not direct and longer distances. Again a setting I am sure I am yet to find!! Thanks for all these really useful videos, a wealth of really handy tips here!

Yes all systems in Mercedes-Benz take just a couple of tics to get going but when they do they quite speedy! 🤓
Updates for the sat Nav are performed automatically when you’ve registered and set up Mercedes me. As long as you or the dealership have helped you enable this you can set it and forget about it :)
Sat Nav’s generally only take you main roads, balancing fuel efficiency and of course ease of driving but they also factor in live traffic too. You can change this to do short routes, this will take you through all of the windy roads and short roads but overall could take you longer.

Great video but one quick question. I have the new GLE 2022. I would like to rename/label a destination to be able to find it easier ie Sons House. Not have destination address or coordinates. I’ve gone to favorites held down Options but only delete appears! How to I simply rename a destination so I can scroll and find it easier than addresses or coordinates?

There is a feature would be good to have covered Nick. I have a 2021 GLE 350 DE Premium Plus with towing pack. The nice thing about this is when we hook up our caravan or any trailer in fact, it asks if we want to optimise route for towing. This is not for satnav per se, but generally when car starts so I guess it prompts in some way even if you don't a have route set up but we assumed it would activate this for a sat nav route expecially. However I can't find any reference to actually what the car does for that, it's obvious what it might do, but it took us down a lane that became single track with an 8ft wide caravan last week, so it would be good to know it's limitations and it's installed "logic".

Hello Nick I've just recently purchased a 21 plate AMG A35 I'm connected to Mercedes me and I have available updates for maps and MBUX however over the air updates just doesn't seem to happen. I've spoken to Mercedes me and there as helpful as a chocolate tea pot dealership don't seem to understand what's happening or why. so I've spent 45k on a car and now seem to be hung out to dry. any other suggestions on how I can get things to work? doing some digging on the net I don't seem to be on my own here. Many thanks your videos have taught me lots of information.

They should happen automatically as long as you have your car linked to your account, you have a subscription, Terms of Use are accepted and it’s switched on.
If that doesn’t work I’d get in touch with your local Mercedes and they should be able to help and update manually in their workshops or something

Mercedes have said my satnav on the 2014 C63 is obsolete and can't be renewed, even though I have another year left on my Live Traffic. Rather annoying when I end up looking as though I'm driving through a field or it doesn't recognise a new road to advise exists etc...

Suppose I am using the sat nav to navigate, showing the 3D view on the central screen (E200 Coupé - 07/2022).
I can of course pinch in/out to zoom in/out on the screen. Question : after I manually modify the view by zooming in/out, I have the feeling that the 3D view is keeping/locking my choice, and won't automatically zoom in/out by itself anymore. For example after I exit the motorway where I was driving fast (and the view was more "zoomed-out), and I enter the city center where I am driving slower, I would expect the 3D view to automatically zoom in "closer" - but I have the feeling it doesn't , simply because I had manually altered the view before. Is that the case ?

Just toggle it on in settings
On your centre screen press Home, Navigation, Settings (bottom right), Advanced, then I believe it’s Map Orientation. Just toggle Auto Zoom on 🤓
Amazing videos as always Nick...re: the MBUX sat nav...you know how Google Maps usually shows you 3 different routes to your destination and you don't necessarily pick the shortest route (I sometimes prefer taking the longer route as long as I can access the M25 or M40 etc). How do I find these alternative routes on the MBUX Sat Nav? Also, how do you access the What3Words navigation by voice request...like they show in the adverts? My car is a 2022 A250 AMG Line Edition Premium Plus. Thanks as always...

With the other, it’s a setting that you’d normally have to enable. Sat Nav’s usually direct you to the destination along the quickest route but I think you can change it in NAVI, SETTINGS, ADVANCED, ROUTE

Our 2017 MB GLC300 Sat. Nav/GPS system is completely useless. We live in newly built community in Austin, Texas. These neighborhoods were built in the last 2-5 years and the MB GPS can not find any location. I tried updating it by using Updated SD Cards that i purchased from Amazon but that did not work. I tried downloading CarPlay to connect Google Map on our iPhone with MB Navi but that did not work either. We are very much frustrated and are beginning to hate MB cars. I have noticed that MB technology is far behind other makes, especially the Japanese cars. Can you Please help me figure out how I can update the GPS (Sat Nav)?? Thank you.
I wouldn’t say that MB are behind on tech at all, it’s just that tech moves at such a fast pace, honestly you can blink and something gets upgraded or changed! 😅
So for the CarPlay question, CarPlay was announced by Apple 2015 ish. The keyword there is “announced”. Apple announced it to manufactures to implement it into their systems on their next car launch. Now I would imagine because Mercedes had already committed to the GLC which launched in 2016, it was too late to put it in then as it was already coming out. So Apple CarPlay came out on the GLC in 2019 onwards so that’s where you’ll find it on that model. Any model prior to it, won’t have it.
For the Sat nav in your car, I’m guessing it might be Garmin Map Pilot, so you might have to ask your local Mercedes on how to update that one. In the UK I believe you just purchase a new card from a dealership and it’ll contain the latest maps.

Hi Nick, I am a new subscriber. I have two Mercedes with the MBUX system, one in a AMG Vito 8 seater which is excellent and have recently purchase a Motor home based on Sprinter van mechanics. The problem I have is in my previous motor home I was able to personalise the size of my vehicle so that the satnav did not send me down unsuitable roads for the vehicle. One of the principal reasons I changed the Fiat based motor home was to get Merc mechanics and the MBUX. There seems to be no ability to put in the size on the motorhome , 8m x 2.3x 3.1m. A large vehicle. Yesterday the satnav took me down a road in France which turned into a single track which when we met a 8 wheeler lorry coming the over way was somewhat distressing!! Is the MBUX system installed in the sprinter/ Mercedes commercial vehicles, if so it must have the ability to determine the suitability of the routes that are set by MBUX, if not this is a huge mistake and a danger to road users. Comments please.

Mercedes Commercial vehicles are completely separate to Mercedes Passenger cars. There certainly isn’t anything like that in passenger cars but I’m not sure if it’s different.
If you get in touch with your local Mercedes commercial dealer, I would have thought they’d be able to let you know. I completely understand though, that would be useful to have!
I updated my live traffic maps as it had run out. Since then I have several alerts that stay active. I've been back to Mercedes and they say they can't update as I have the latest maps. It's annoying to have erroneous live alerts. I've got a Garmon in my GLC250D 4MATIC. Any help appreciated.

My car with MBUX is 3 year old and suddenly there is a message said that i need to pay for the navigation package to update and use the life traffic information. I don't know that i can still use the navigation when it expires (maybe with TMC) ???
You can still use the Sat Nav but to get Live Traffic & map updates you can renew it on the Mercedes me store.
I have a m benz 2017 c180. It has a navi button but nothing happens. Also my radio screen also dont have the navi to scroll to it?
Really sorry I only started covering Mercedes on my channel in 2020 so have limited videos on models prior to that.
But it sounds like it might not have navigation. I know that some models of Mercedes had Garmin Map Pilot and COMMAND as an option (those are the names of their multimedia navigation systems). Garmin is available on some models as it wasn’t standard back then so you might need to add an SD card. Chat with a dealer and they can let you know how much it costs etc 👍🏼
Nick, I have the NTG 5.5 Is there any way of increasing the Font size of roads / places etc on the screen. As I am getting older I find it quite difficult to focus on the text as it is so small even when the screen is on maximum zoom. I can't see anything on the menu & was wondering if you knew any tricks?

Hey Stafwan, that sounds strange, have you contacted your local dealership yet? Sat Navs should always should you where you are so I’d imagine a technician would need to take a look.
Hi. I just update the navigation for my C220 W205. Works fine on road but I need to eject the sd card and insert it back every time I start the engine. "No card found" or something like that appears before do the out and back in trick. Dies anyone knows what's going on?

Nick, great video. Web research has led me to this as I have a 2017 plate C200 Sport Estate and the SatNav is woefully slow (to activate, and during navigation). The SatNav installed is the Garmin Map-Pilot, and Mercedes seem sure there are no software updates due on my car. Is there anything that can be done to improve this? I've considered buying the Navigation Pack via Mercedes Me, but it's not cheap, and there's no guarantee it will improve. As it stands I've gone back to an old dash mounted SatNav unit, as the built in navigation is not usable it's so slow. Any ideas would be warmly received.

Sadly as it runs off of the SD card, this is the max speed that Garmin Map Pilot operates.
Just bear in mind, purchasing the navigation package on Mercedes me is just for Live Traffic info for the Sat Nav itself so it won’t make it any faster in terms of performance.

Unfortunately, this brings me to what you already know and that is that my A-200-Progressive came -without navigation- activated.
I do not know if I mention it, but Mercedes Benz Argentina (not a dealer), as a courtesy, gave me a quotation of about 10,500 USD just to add to the navigation, which seems excessive compared to the cost of other packages to upgrade the car.
Anyway, I already asked for a check because there is an audible noise on the dashboard while I am driving and I am not going to also live with this
Do you have any idea which is the most modern version of MBUX for A class? ? As I told you I can use Android Auto, however, the touchpad does not work.

Unfortunately no I don’t know what the latest is, it’s something I’m told. And regarding the touch pad, it doesn’t work in any of them so I’m not sure it it’s an Android thing or a Mercedes-Benz thing.
If I’m honest it still baffles me that Mercedes-Benz Argentina sell cars without Navigation as it’s standard equipment here in the UK! I thought it would be standard across all manufacturers in 2020...
Hi Nick, these clips are great. Have just been to Scotland and back and noticed a couple of quirks. The traffic reports were very intermittent and when I got one it was just the last minute or so. Also on the sat nav, I couldn’t see the service stations. The sat nav did highlight random petrol stations and dealerships. Can you help or do. I need to chivvy the dealer. Many Thanks.
Hi Joy, thank you glad you like the videos! Live Traffic Information isn’t always instantaneous as there are many sources of information for this.
As long as it’s coming into the car then it’ll be doing it’s job.
However if you don’t think it’s being received, get in touch with your local dealership and they should be able to assist.

If I recall though, I thought that an ML 250 had either Becker Map Pilot or COMAND.
Becker Map Pilot, I’m not sure how those are updated but COMAND is updated in a Mercedes workshop.

Satellite view sadly is only on certain models, I believe it’s MBUX NTG 7 so really new ones which have been released over the past year or so.
There was a satellite view on older models but it only showed you satellite view when you zoomed out.
So if you don’t have it, if you can an alternative is to use Google Maps, that has Satellite view 🤓
And of course the ever popular "unable to locate satellites" message.
Went to my mercedes benz dealer to update my 2019 e class sat nav. They said my car uses garmin map pilot and I would have to update the sd card myself by inserting the sd card in my pc. ?????

Hi Nick, LTI in my former 2015 C250 BT advised of traffic jams etc. both visually and vocally, in my 2020 C220d Coupé NGT 5.5 Comand I only got visual (and silent) information of additional time required but no alternative route suggestion, although my subscription to the service will only expire in Oct. 2023. My MB dealer could not solve the problem, any suggestion ? Thanks a lot - your great !

Default settings are that NTG 5.5 will re-route automatically without notifying the user. You can change this if you wish by going to NAVI, nudge left and then either Route & Position or Settings (can’t remember off the top of my head which one). In there allows you to change the route preference, from Dynamic, Shortest, Eco Route etc. There’s also a setting in there to notify you of a route change due to traffic which should be off by default but of course change it if you prefer it the other way.

Hi Nick, many thanks for your kind and quick reply. Problem is, there is no "Dynamic Route" option in my new car (while it was there in my former one), only Eco, Shortest, Quickest. I tried selecting alternatively the option for automatical re-routing and the one upon request, unfortunately no result in either case, as mentioned I only got the delay information but no re-routing at all.

And tick boxes for these two:
Avoid traffic jam automatically

Hi, on 2018 A Class AMG-Line Premium Plus using MBUX. I don't seem to be getting live traffic even though it is under 3yrs old and I have extended traffic subscription anyway. How can you tell if it's working? I don't see any red roads or get re routed like on my old cars Apple Car Play.

To help you know though, you can check it in multiple places.
In the car, on the Navi screen with the map, you should be able to see the words “Live Traffic Information on the top right.
On your Mercedes me Account, you can go to the “Manage Services” section and make sure it’s switched on in there too.
I've just purchased (April 2022) an update to my B Class (bought new in 2015) Garmin Map Pilot with the update costing £104 and Live Traffic will NOT work without an additional purchase via Mercedes Me.
Hey David, yes that’s right sadly Garmin stopped supporting Live Traffic via the SD card so there were a couple of months where Live Traffic couldn’t be renewed.
Mercedes I believe then had implemented a way to offer it via Mercedes me. When this changed I put this in the description of the video:

Using in built navigation, yes there is a subscription for Live Traffic updates as the actual data comes from TomTom (but of course renewed on the Mercedes me store)
Hi Nick, I have a 2016 C 63S which I believe has comand maps? I went to use the online maps and the system is definitely connected to my phone and there is a data connection but the online maps says this is temporarily unavailable. Do online maps actually work or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your videos very helpful

Online Maps and updates unfortunately only came out in the UK on the next generation C-Class which launched roughly Dec 2018.
For models before this, maps are updated at a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

I just bought a 2020 A35 but came without navigation on MBUX, however, I have the NAV button on my center console and when I go to the Mercedes Me App Store, it shows that I can purchase the hard disk Nav for my car on the store and this can be loaded remotely once purchase is completed. Is this accurate? My car comes with Extended MBUX Functions as per prerequisite.

A quick question, the ambient lighting just stopped working all of a sudden on my car, the brightness it's at 100 but the lights are not working, when entering the vehicle the welcome white led strips are showing but no ambient lighting when driving the car, how can I fix this?

@@npoleary Okay will do that, I found this extremely weird, I left my car to get a car wash before that everything was fine, when I picked up the car I had no ambient lighting, I can’t connect my phone to apple car play as well as all the 3D buildings on the nav were gone, I don’t know if they somehow reset the system in the car and messed it up or it was a coincidental update.

Sadly not sat in a 2015 one. I thought that S-Class’s had COMAND (in-built Sat nav).

There a chance to change from Garmin to Comand or Comand to NTG 5.5? I have plenty issues with Comand in my W205 for example with not telling me to take an exit when I am on my to work and saying "You reached your destination, it is on the right" while being in the middle of the Autobahn passing the company. Or another example is when I tried to navigate to a new location and Comand would lead me to an address 1.5 miles away from the actual destination. So I wonder if an upgrade to NTG 5.5 is possible and whether this might solve my issues.
Hey Sven, sadly NTG versions are not upgradable, they’re completely different multimedia systems.
I’d suggest chatting to Mercedes though to see if you’ve got the latest map versions etc 🤓

It’s been a while since I’ve connected Apple CarPlay and used it that way but I don’t remember different touch pads being slow compared to others.
If the whole thing felt on the sluggish side I would potentially suggest it could be the phone but if only one touchpad is I’d probably suggest speaking with your local dealership. They might be able to advise or check it out for you.

Unfortunately upgrades like that aren’t available on cars. From my experience I know that the systems in cars aren’t as responsive a few years ago compared to today’s systems but that’s just the advancement of tech / processors over the years. The latest cars have dedicated graphics cards and faster processors to make the whole system faster.
However if you genuinely think something is wrong, if you speak to your local Mercedes-Benz they might be able to run some diagnostics and check it out for you.

It might be different in South Africa so I’d advise speaking with your local dealership, hopefully they can at least point you in the right direction!

Hi Nick thanks for the video. I have a question on the NTG 5.5 system. I'm in London but my sat nav shows the map of Wales for some reason. I use Waze usually as I find it easier to use and more up to date. I tried using the Mercedes system recently but it didn't work. I was in Cambridge, so coming back to London the journey should have been just over an hour but the system thought I was in Wales and told me the route was 250miles and would take me over 4 hours! Any ideas how to reset or fix this issue?

If the system is saying you’re somewhere else than you are right now even with starting a route, you’ll have to speak with your local Mercedes and get them to have a look at it.

1. With nav favorites, there only appear to be a max of 10 and you only have a few characters for the rename. Is there a better way to have a larger number of favorites and give them more meaningful names?
2. I have connected my phone and it reads the address book. In nav I can select a contact as a destination, but it is really picky about the format of the address (I. E. It is poor, at decoding the text) and often fails to use the address. Do you know if an update is coming to fix this?
I’ve noticed this that the favourites menu is limited to only a few and characters are limited to a certain number of characters. I’ll be honest I don’t think so...NTG5.5 has been out for almost 4 years and it hasn’t changed in that time so I doubt it’ll change now.
What I’ve found though is if you have it linked to your Mercedes me account you can send destinations through to your Sat Nav from the app. And then if you have your addresses in your contacts you can send them to the car from there.

Hey Dennis, MBUX does not use SD cards (well not in the UK anyway) as it’s all built in.
Maps update automatically over the internet as long it’s switched on in your Mercedes me account.

Hey Sleek, ah most modern cars are only designed for the surrounding countries that they were made for, so for the UK, it only has European maps.

Well also just go careful with that too, Mercedes me services are also only designed to work in the country (and surrounding) it was designed for too.
Where was the car from and where was it imported too? Before purchasing I would check that it’s actually going to work.
Anything these days that transmits a signal uses certain frequencies and certain countries have certain restrictions on certain ones. For example I was going to buy an Apple Watch Cellular in the USA once on holiday but I found out prior to purchasing that it would not work in the UK due to the different cellular networks and receivers.

Hey Jaah11, hmmm that’s sounds strange…really sorry no I haven’t ever seen that before. It will only update though if the car is on so if that car hasn’t been driven for a while then it’ll continue updating when it’s next on.

I have the mbux system and am fully connected via the Mercedes me app. It tells me I have a map update (which is desperately needed as there are many missing locations on the current version I have) but even driving for over an hour it still won’t update over the air as you say. Hey D4L3, don’t worry over the air updates can take a long time, they run at a low priority so they don’t impact anything else and can take weeks to do based on average driving each day.
Just make sure your car is linked to your Mercedes me account, Terms or Use Accepted and the Online Map Update service is switched on.
If you are still having problems, on the first instance I’d speak with the Mercedes me help team (top left of the app). They can advise what to do next.

Sorry I’m not familiar with how the sat Nav works in a 2012 S-Class. I think they used to use discs? I could be wrong although it doesn’t sound like normal behaviour.
Have you spoken to your local Mercedes-Benz? They might be the best people to help.

No sadly I haven’t seen that work before in the UK, I’ve just seen it work on COMAND and MBUX

There aren’t any settings on the car or Mercedes me for that. It just states Europe Maps (and the version number).
I think you will have to speak to a local dealer for that kind of thing, I’m sure they can help though!

I had heard that due to the semiconductor shortage, specs had been revised but this changed some time ago now.
Hi Nick, do you know if the Smart media system uses Garmin or comand or does it have its own operating system: and does that media system have sat nav has standard?

Hey Masato K, I believe Smart’s use TomTom for their live traffic however the new ones rely on Smartphone Integration for Sat use so don’t come with Navigation included.
Basically you just plug your phone in and use that instead 🤓

In the menu settings you can toggle the mirrors to fold in/out when unlocking but sadly there’s no timer feature
Hi Nick, just a quick question, I activated the navigation updates online on my GLB200, but I'm a little confused on how the software is downloaded... is it downloaded through the car's mercedes me connection built in or will it be through my phones data once the phone is connected via bluetooth? I'm kinda worried that if it is through my phone it will consume all my data 😅
Ah don’t worry the car has it’s own data connection for that. There’s no way to link your phone in that way anyway 🤓
I think all Mercedes-Benz now use the Vodafone network but as long as you’ve activated it in the portal / app you’re good to go!

Hey Bob, as with many makes and models of cars back in 2014, satellite navigation was an option. As you have the Navi button though you can probably purchase a unit to add sat Nav to the car. If you speak with your local Mercedes then they can check which one is compatible with your B-Class.

Oh that only happens if you’re not on a road
As soon as you go onto a road it’ll update with the road name 🤓

Hey Ernie, that doesn’t sound right…there certainly isn’t anything on the system that allows you to “lock” it.
Have you spoken with your local Mercedes dealership? Hopefully they might be able to take a look in person 🤓
@@npoleary Hi Nick my local Mercedes dealer had my car Friday afternoon and ran out of time due to early closing but it seems efforts to activate the touch pad control to get the sat nav to work failed and only advised a costly replacement. The car has very low mileage so disappointing to think that it could not be reactivated.
That does sound strange…really sorry I wouldn’t know what to suggest. I’ve never worked on them in that way before.
Technicians in the dealerships are the ones who can advise on aspects likes this so I would assume their diagnosis is correct?

Yes Of course I went to the dealer. and I mentioned it as well as other problems ... but here in Greece they are only interested in selling cars and after the sale ... find it yourself ... I bought GLA 250e 25 days ago .... with full equipment! !!!
Here in Greece Mercedes treats us like third-world people.. sell cars and on the menu do not have the Greek language..!!

In the language menu I see that #Mercedes cares about: English, Deutsch, ,eština, Dansk, Español, Français, Hrvatski, Italiano, Magyar, Nederlands, Norsk, polski, Portugues,
Slovencina, Srpski, Svenska, Turkce, Pyccknn etc ..

Hey Randy,
On your centre screen (multimedia system), press Home and swipe across to Navi.
And then on the screen behind your steering wheel (your instrument cluster) again press Home and swipe across to Navi for that one too.
Depending on the specification of your A-Class, you may be able to do some extra things by swiping down on this section and it may change the look.
All comes down to your screen size and spec

Quite a few manufacturers have the tyre pressure readings in KPA, not my preferred as I’d like PSI but unfortunately it can’t be changed in the car. However if you use Mercedes me, you can change it in settings in the app (top left).

If you have Garmin Map Pilot (sounds like you do) then you quite simply buy a new SD card from a Mercedes-Benz Dealership.

Hey Rosie, if you’re inputting a Sat Nav destination, it shouldn’t make a difference as it’ll pick up lowercase and uppercase.

Hey Mivhael, all UK cars have Navi included as it features the latest multimedia System called MBUX. I do know that specification can vary greatly between country to country. Where abouts are you based?
@@npoleary I figured so. Just got off the phone with MBUSA and they said I have it too, but once they get their “over the air” update feature online, I’ll have it too, but they don’t know when it is going to happen hahahahaha.
