As someone who is used to sailing wooden boats without any engine it makes me so happy seeing sailors opt out of motoring even when the sailing conditions seem subpar. Just drifting along with barely any wind is such a big part of sailing imo.
I'm binge watching your channel while my son has summer play dates and while crocheting a blanket for my nephew ... your videos are too good ... this poor blanket is doomed 😁
Nicely done. Dan you handle the boat quite well. Impressed on how well you sailed, the timing coming into the marina, and skill at the sail by picking up your friend. Great video - loved the epic dramatic start then back to reality. The running aground was hilarious - glad you showed it instead of editing it out. Fair Winds Uma.
Kinda fun to watch these old episodes again, after so much time. Nice to show how much UMA and the both of you have improved over time. Even capt. Kika's voice is different. lol
Excellent production as always, folks. Super cool to see you sailing. FWIW I loved the mock-epic intro. Good bit of story telling, I thought. You are both blessed with so many skills. Good luck to you!
You guys have every right to brag about your "Sailbuy". These little boat handling tricks always need practicing and it's always good to see people do it. Well done!
Just found your channel and have watched every episode and seeing you finally out like this is incredible. All of your hard work and dedication is finally paying off. Can't wait to finish the whole series.
Wow, great video! There is something special about sailing into a place where others have to motor. Great job in picking him up! Recently our diesel died and we had to sail all the way back and into our slip. We knew it would not be a problem, as we had sailed in and out of these things before, but it is always a bit on the edge when you do!
Enjoying rewatching all the videos from the beginning. Good reminder of how and where it all started and what it took just to reach this point. That's where the confidence builds up. Short runs and then venturing out further. Kudos!
My wifes and my 1st sail on Preceptor, our 1st boat, we too got stuck on a bar off Squaxin Island. 4 1/2 hous wait for tide to fully turn. Now back to the show
There are 2 types of sailors out there....those who have run aground and those that will. Glad you guys got that out of the way....until the next one. Hahaha;)
As amazing as all the work you have done on the boat, i'd like to also single out the video editing. From the types of shots and their placement along with how it all syncs with the music, its all top notch. So much better than other series. And for the record. i LOVED the epic version! But I found myself cheering at this video and all my people at work looking at me all confused.
+ferros2600 hahaha that is awesome. Its always awkward to suddenly laugh out loud or start cheering in front of a computer with headphones (happens to me all the time in coffee shops )
Damn, that was a great Epic start - you're such a good film maker Kika! Loved this episode, "time and tide wait for no man" (or wind or woman!) was never more apt:-)! It's great to see you enjoying the light winds and that your bottom held up so amazingly well! Glad you got a little wind in the evening though, great tack :-)! Your motor is so quiet! You must have been so happy to get out on the Sea:-)! Nice Sail by! Really great to see you sailing at last you've done such a great job!
funny, creative opening segment. obviously you two have tremendously fun sense of humors.. and lucky we are to be the fly upon the cabin wall.. seeing you having so much richness, fun, and healthiness.. is a perfect follow-up to all the scenes of hard work in the initial stages . I'm stoked for you over and over ! Canyon
outstanding. Already getting good with the the no motor maneuvers. So few sailors really learn to move their boats with a motor. I loved that part of sailing. Well done indeed.
+ScubaTony Anschutz Thanks Tony :) we wtere talking about it yesterday. There is two ways you can sail 1) the lazy cruiser way, using your motor 70% of the time or 2) the performance cruiser way (which we like to call ourselves) using your motor 1% of the time, and just make it a good workout tacking into inlets. ;)
You guys had me going, I was enjoying the drama and Dan stopped the vid, got me totally by surprise. Love the hammock idea and even if the shake down was slow, you put it out there and the next sail was great! You two are the best! The sail by, that's creative. Your friend seems cool and very helpful.
+Scotto Wd Haha, yes it was epic. Oh the hammock is amazing... until it starts swinging harder and harder lol. But sailing slow definitely has its advantage. Bradley is such an amazing friend + super knowledgeable and taught us so much in terms of performance techniques.
I took my sailing lessons in Hawaii and the instructor insisted on “Sail-bys, stepping off and on the pier. Engine? I don’t need a stinking engine!!!! Great guys, just great....
Ode to naysayers: Why would you buy an old boat that needs tons of work? What do you mean you are replacing the gas engine and putting in what.... an electric forklift engine! You are doing all the work yourselves, you are too young to take that on. A couple of spoiled kids that will run home when it gets tough! Well naysayers where are you now? Great job guys keep em coming!
netflix's needs to put your series on there platform.you have great editing and production skills. and you two are the most inspiring people on all platforms of social media, for living life in the most positive way.
Watching your new videos including in the snow in Norway but about a week ago stated watching from Number one! Nice to see you out sailing after all that work. You are learning so many new skills. Lockdown is at least good in one way.
Great video. Loved the classic "grounding on the shake down sail". The rest of the video was very entertaining to watch and it kept our attention for the whole episode. 👍👍
Ok... so I've been binge watching (since "step one" mind you), and I honestly got a little emotional just now. What an amazing accomplishment. Even if you were unable to go any further (for whatever reason), you guys did it. YOU GOT HER SEA WORTHY AGAIN. Congrats on a job VERY well done. I am 51 yrs old and have just now came to realize that sailing is a passion I wished I would have learned many many yrs ago. Your vlogs have gave me such an inspiration to start my journey. To you I say thanks. P.S. keep your eyes open on the horizon, cuz you just may see "LUVDRUNK" on the horizon.
Awww that is soo heart warming . Thank you for your kind hearted message. It really motivates us to keep moving forward and create the best content we can for you watching :)
Cool loose foot sail. Comes in handy when you're sailing in the rain....attached sails tend to dump buckets of water which makes an unpleasant tack :). Can't wait to see how you rig the solar panels and electric!
You guys are gonna love the midnite solar gear. I've got one of their charge controllers and the thing is about as epic as a charge controller can be. Also their staff is freaking awesome.
I'm a little late to the party having just found this channel, but wanted to say that you two kick all kinds of ass. Great job! Looking forward to seeing where this adventure takes you and kind of glad I'm only 25 or so episodes in! ;-)
That was awesome. I truly admire your dedication to sailing as much as humanly possible - I'm the same way, and always want to sail home after a race (I'm usually voted down by busy, got-stuff-to-do crew, however). Endlessly tacking up the river might become wearisome after a while (reminds me of trying to sail a small beach cat out of Marina Del Rey once) - but you have the range to motor in from that drawbridge, surely? You'll probably have current against you now and again as well. Great to see the ole gal bashing upwind like that (I'm talking about Uma of course!) and the wicked smile on Kikka's face at the helm! I was worried that after all this work, one or both of you would discover that, actually, sailing just wasn't their THING... No worries there, apparently! Looking forward to the next Step!
+Lazy Jacques thanks. Oh yes sailing is definitely officially our THING. We have the range to technically motor all the way out the inlet and back (with the tide of course) but why would we? lol we literally turn on our motor just outside of the marina, about 1 mile from the bridge.
great intro. it was epic, and it was good. little long to use on every video, but it did catch attentions. look forward to seeing your adventure at sea.
Life is what you make of it, so go make it happen! Awesome vids and I am so happy you chose UMA instead of buying new. This way when it breaks you can fix it and not need to run crying to a shop..
Dan, why did you stop Kika Spielberg at the start? She was *EPIC* 🤭🤭 These 'early' episodes (steps) are brilliant, and certainly help get through current times with the global virus. I'm so glad I started again, right at the beginning of your adventure.
Queue epicness....... E.P.I.C. Loved the intro, guys. Sat here smiling. Thanks for sharing the copper bottom segment. I'm very interested to see how it holds up. s/v Little Bear is still on the hard and I've yet to put coppercoat on her bottom. So when the time comes... we'll see!
+theislandpackrat Thats rough. Yep it happens to every sailor out there... Its either than admit it, haven't done it yet, or lie about it lol Although hopefully that was THE ONLY time it happens
First your sail by was dam first rate. Good sailing, great job! You may find that dropping the main coming into port and using just the jib is easier. The jib can be furled easier than dropping the main. But your ability to do a pass-by can't be faulted. Nice job!
The film was way to short. I've been waiting so long for this...! But I really look forward to follow your work with the solarcells and your electrical motor. See you. From a cold and windy Sweden.
"3:10. Put The *Bradler on the end of the boom, ease the mainsheet, Kika to push the mainsheet out to starboard. And, as if by miracle, the channel had enough water again. Well done guys, you've saved the channel from dehyrdration! * Bradler - the way you wrote Bradley, the 'y' looked like an 'r'. Hence Bradler, like a low strength lemony "beer" or like the villain in a Batman movie. You think I jest but I am a rugby prop, and while Brad might also be as a hooker, I'm a prop. We actually used this method to get out of Gladstone Harbour when caught on the mud at low tide in 2007. The beginning of a wondeful journey taking the boat North to Hamilton Island via the Percy Islands and Mackay. But you'll learn about that when you get down to Australia and New Zealand.
Lookin good there you 2 :) Happy sailing and safe seas! I must say....Consider life lines and railing, when changing sail in rough seas it is a must! I don't see any safety equipment whatsoever? You're store them inside most likely I hope... Don't want to be sour though :) Boat is looking great. A tiny one that muts be said. Greetings from Holland
+firefly 16 thanks, safety rails on the to do list (but not having yet them wont keep us from moving) We do have all the safety equipment required. Cheers :)
So good to see you two finally on the high seas. Mad sailing skills...nobody else shows how to tack upwind in a narrow area...or go under bridges under sail...or pick up passengers on the fly under sail...oh my...crazy or not. Hoping you'll tell us what kind of range your getting off your batteries but expect that will come after you have full solar and maybe even wind electric generation so your not stranding yourself anywhere. Although I don't see much you couldn't sail out of after that demo...lol. Where did you two learn to sail so well?
+tazmun We like to call ourselves "performance cruisers" Believe it or not, but our sailing skills come from racing with the Fort Pierce Yacht Club. One of the members is an avid racer and took us under his wings for the past year, the more we got out there, the more we learned (performance wise) and the more confident we became. Oh I must mention that Bradley also knows his stuff. To be honest, we can't tell you the range of our motor yet, we haven't tested it that far, only used it for a couple minutes.
I'm hoping you'll take advantage of the shaft turning while you're sailing to get back some battery power. An inline alternator. A wind generator in effect.
Great to see this Uma boat finally sailing free! Congrats guys! So, at some point will you be telling us the final cost of this venture? The boat was purchased very used and redone by you, and you both have put in lots of extras, so have you come under budget?
+Ted Smith That is a Good idea. We will try to work on a spread sheet with the total cost of the entire refit (from the start ... until we do more, then we can update that list haha)
Lovely to see you finally on the water! Did your electric motor work the way you wanted, and is the battery charging going OK? I see that despite your copper layer you still have a lot of growth on the hull. Do you still recommend it? Maybe time to start with some maps or a marine book of your region. Looking forward to your next video. Greetings
+Marc Derveeuw Yes, Yes, and Yes lol. Motor works great everytime we need it. Copper bottom only had soft growth (mostly only grass) after 6 months of not touching it. no barnacles at all. so in our opinion it was definitely worth it. We will keep an eye on it as we go. Yep, We started our map and books collection ;)
enjoy watching your journey's on video and 'm guessing bradley may want to be your 2nd mate on the boat or he's gonna want to get his own (if he doesn't already have one). Fair winds and following seas.
As someone who is used to sailing wooden boats without any engine it makes me so happy seeing sailors opt out of motoring even when the sailing conditions seem subpar. Just drifting along with barely any wind is such a big part of sailing imo.
+Mukumber Us too! We actually don't mind it as much as we thought we might. It's sweet time to take a nap, get some work done and just chill out.
I'm with you! Engines are for ports and locks (even if it's such a quiet electrical beauty). The rest is sailing!
I'm binge watching your channel while my son has summer play dates and while crocheting a blanket for my nephew ... your videos are too good ... this poor blanket is doomed 😁
😂😂 I know exactly what you mean 😂 about the blanket.
Nicely done. Dan you handle the boat quite well. Impressed on how well you sailed, the timing coming into the marina, and skill at the sail by picking up your friend. +Edward Hewer Haha, yea I was actually surprised how well that worked out. Its a fun little maneuver though
It always amazes me the quality of the videos normal folks are producing these day. Great job guys... Fine job sailing..
Cheers
+Sailing with SV Wild Hare Cheers !
Wow she sails like a dream from what I can see. She's ready to go on the journey far away.
Kik your amazing! Dan, your the freaking man! Together you guys are epic! Keep on doing what your doing. You really are an inspiration!
Just found your channel and have watched every episode and seeing you finally out like this is incredible. All of your hard work and dedication is finally paying off. Can't wait to finish the whole series.

This is the best one yet. You both are so inspiring. Thank you!
I must say I have been pleasantly surprised at the skill level and problem solving abilities, you two have proven to be full of surprises...
Great to see finally getting to enjoy your boat .
I love watching sailors sail. A good video.
Cheers Gray

Glad to hear it.
I love the start she should’ve kept going. I love these two young people more than anything on this world.
They are the BEST

All right! Been a long time working on her and now you're sailing. Excellent.
+crashkahuna finally. Although, we are not even close to be done working on her
Love the intro....and I'm still watching it seven years 'too late'
I really like how you show when things go awry.
The opening was great. Kicking ass and taking names. I don't have to ask you if all the work was worth it, it shows on your faces.
Welcome back to one of my favourite vlogs! Way to go guys!
Very creative. Love it. Great to see ya'll untie those lines!!
+rob sacrey Thanks Rob. You get a hug if we're ever in the same place at the same time.
personally I think your videos will someday be compared to the pardeys ..lol...I love how we've seen you tackle problems...
That forklift dc motor is ingenious. Is it a 500 series 30+ hp? After seeing that my diesel is coming out and do exactly what you did.
So happy for you. Seeing you guys shakedowns was inspiring, love the music! :)
netflix's needs to put your series on there platform.you have great editing and production skills. and you two are the most inspiring people on all platforms of social media, for living life in the most positive way.
You guys rock! Great video to start the new season! Xcellent sailing scenes! "o)
Watching your new videos including in the snow in Norway but about a week ago stated watching from Number one! Nice to see you out sailing after all that work. You are learning so many new skills. Lockdown is at least good in one way.
picking up someone at sail.... badass
Good job guys you’re doing a really great good luck and you look amazing
That really pretty awesome. So is your documentary!!
Great video. Loved the classic "grounding on the shake down sail". The rest of the video was very entertaining to watch and it kept our attention for the whole episode. 👍👍
Epic opening for season 3. I was waiting for you to say, "THIS IS SPARTA!!!!" LOL :D
+Ro Cayas haha! maybe next epic intro ;)
Ok... so I've been binge watching (since "step one" mind you), and I honestly got a little emotional just now. What an amazing accomplishment. Great episode, the sail by pickup was very impressive!!!
Cool loose foot sail. Comes in handy when you're sailing in the rain....attached sails tend to dump buckets of water which makes an unpleasant tack :). Can't wait to see how you rig the solar panels and electric!
What a Nice day to be on the water sailing fishing relaxing talking and just enjoy what you worked hard for !! Thanks for another great video !!cheers
You guys are gonna love the midnite solar gear. I've got one of their charge controllers and the thing is about as epic as a charge controller can be. Also their staff is freaking awesome.
Guys. I am delighted to see you "sailing", not just travelling in a boat that sails. Fine point maybe but it was great. D
I'm a little late to the party having just found this channel, but wanted to say that you two kick all kinds of ass. Great job! Looking forward to seeing where this adventure takes you and kind of glad I'm only 25 or so episodes in! ;-)
"Sail by"..>!! LOVE IT
boats looking great, looks like your enjoying your adventures. nice vid.
No motor needed! Terrific!
Epic!
Epic for the win!
Yay to the Super Epic start!! got me excited for this episode.
Outstanding, your vidz warm our hearts 98.6 every episode...hubz says keep ur powder dry. luv Teresa & Jon 🐉💅🏾
We're installing new solar now, so it will be interesting to see how you guys do it.
What fun!! Looks awesome!!
Loved the epic style of editing at the beginning
great intro. it was epic, and it was good. little long to use on every video, but it did catch attentions. look forward to seeing your adventure at sea.
Great video!! Thank you!
The best! Thanks guys.
Shut up,man! The opener-music was perfect, and you know it! 😜
Life is what you make of it, so go make it happen! Awesome vids and I am so happy you chose UMA instead of buying new. This way when it breaks you can fix it and not need to run crying to a shop..
you are AMAZING!!!!!!!
Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
Dan, why did you stop Kika Spielberg at the start? She was *EPIC* 🤭🤭
These 'early' episodes (steps) are brilliant, and certainly help get through current times with the global virus.
I'm so glad I started again, right at the beginning of your adventure.
Great video. Loved the intro! Epic is good!
Queue epicness....... E.P.I.C. Loved the intro, guys. Sat here smiling. Thanks for sharing the copper bottom segment. I'm very interested to see how it holds up. s/v Little Bear is still on the hard and I've yet to put coppercoat on her bottom. So when the time comes... we'll see!
+Wake for Me Thanks. And good luck to you and s/v Little Bear ! Feel free to let us know how the copper works for you when you get there.
I did the same with my first sailboat, ran aground right after leaving the marina. Boat laid all the way over so got to clean that side real good.
Nice job!
Good use of the current to push the bow away from the dock too.
Great opening for the new season. Keep the videos coming. larry
Gotta love the random shoals in the Indian River :P I've hit my fair share, even in power boats (at idle speed fortunately)
The film was way to short. I've been waiting so long for this...! But I really look forward to follow your work with the solarcells and your electrical motor. See you.
From a cold and windy Sweden.
Nice one, great video guys, learnt a lot!

+amateur sailorchallenge whoohoo :) Can't wait to see you on the water as well!!!!
I liked the epic intro :-)
I LOVE this!!!
