Kippers make a great breakfast change to bacon or ham. High in protein, low in fat. all you need to do is heat them up as they are already cooked. You can rinse them off if they are too salty.
Scrambled eggs, kippers, brown toast with butter, marmalade and a cup of strong tea makes an English breakfast.

Matthew - I’m sure you are getting tired of all things herring, but you really must try (and perhaps review) Polar’s “Smoked Herring Filets with Pepper in Brine and Own Juice.” The can is about twice as thick as their Kipper snacks you reviewed in this episode, so you get more fish. The texture is firm and the flavoring is really nice; the combination of pepper, brine, and light smoke is quite a treat. Polar seems to be an “under the radar” brand. Maybe you could do a video just on their offerings. I buy them at a grocery chain but their availability is intermittent. I’m not much of a Walmart shopper so I don’t know if they are carried there and I haven’t searched online for them. Anyway, your early Saturday vid made me hungry so maybe it’s time for some kippers and scrambled! Thanks for another great video.

I'm not positive, probably depends on the type of fish, but generally I think you're not supposed to eat fish that frequently, due to levels of mercury and plastic in them. That might just be tuna cause they're higher up the fish food chain. Do your own research and stuff.

This is presently my favorite type of tinned fish (I've eaten herring and sardines for decades), largely because they are so low sodium - and are pretty cost effective as a shelf-stable protein source. I usually eat them straight from the tin, but occasionally I have used them to make fish chowder or hors d'oeuvres (with some red onion, black pepper, sage, and crackers). I do wonder about the mercury, but I guess we're all going to die of something, someday.

They’re really good. Smokey, not too fishy or soggy.

I get Polar kippers from Dollar Tree for $1.25. I like that it has less salt so I can add a little seasoned salt along with my lemon powder.

Polar is my fave. I can also tolerate King Oscar. As for Brunswick, I liken them to cat treats.

These have been a go to for kipper snack for me since they are all natural. AND they used to be only like 1.29 a can, but they seem to have gone up recently. Main complaint is they can be a bit soggy similar to how you said they weren't quite as firm as you would like. Still for the price and being natural in how it is smoked and no odd ingredients, the best for the money usually

Instead of salting them, a tiny smush of mustard does the trick.

This is one of the few kipper varieties I consistently find in my area, pretty solid stuff. I visited Germany this past Summer, however, and the canned fish was bountiful (at least in the Stuttgart REWE).

@@tristanconnolly3428 Sometimes I think about the existence of those little fish when I open a can. Just swimming along in a school, thinking about food or mating, then, well ….. Laugh if you will, but I have to play that little scenario out before I eat them.
Oh, and Tristan, your existence is acknowledged.

I had a can of these on the same day I got food poisoning from some bad leftover curry. Ruined canned fish for me for months and I can never eat canned herring again, but I’m back on the deenz train.
Would love to see a Goya canned fish exposé, their deenz are dog water but their canned squid in ink is next level with some cold soba🤙
