      @@Whiskey.T.Foxtrot Please provide supportive data. Lennox lays something out one can have and draw strength and inspiration from right then and there and from a point of mathematical precision and in math's proper perspective to this understanding of the greatness of God over all things. Psychotherapies never really cure anyone of anything. One is always "recovering," forever the victim. Gosh. Who else has this kind of rhetoric that has made their kind wealthy and powerful beyond belief we can't talk openly about? Why, it's the same group who came up with the fraud of psychiatry and psychoanalysis.

      The argument regarding the reality of objective morality is so strong and obvious to most of us. The reductional hypothesis destroys morality ethics and even science itself. Logical positivism was refuted by its own verifiable meaning principle decades ago. It’s so important that people are allowed to follow a religion they feel gives them Joy, meaning and purpose without having religious intolerance and a nihilistic world view rammed down their throats.
      Even Albert Einstein recognised the problem with “fanatical atheists whose intolerance is of the same kind as the intolerance of the religious fanatics”

    I think the relationship of a child to his father is a much better analogy. How do you show your love to your father? You listen to him and honor him by doing his will (which also happens to be in your best interest and the best interest of those around you). If you don't listen to your father and you deny your father and refuse to do your father's will, then perhaps your brothers and sisters will inherit his great wealth in retirement while you do not.

      GeoCoppens I don’t agree with you but I respect your opinion and wish you all the best. I personally believe that atheism is just a part of the journey some of us have to take so I wish you Joy, peace and answers to your questions. You may enjoy reading some of Anthony Flews books. Hes a very interesting read. He developed some of the most sophisticated arguments against theism ever written and then shockingly converted to Deism (belief in a supreme being) after 50yrs of intellectual debate. Sadly he was accused of being senile and put under great pressure from his peers but he claimed he’d just followed the evidence where it led.. It’s clear that the road to truth and certainty is not straight forward and easy. Our social conditioning and the reductional materialist myth is a massive hurdle to climb over when it comes to respecting other people’s religious beliefs .
      I come from a science working background and work in a emergency hospital setting. In my experience science fails when it ignores morals, ethics and ignores codes of conduct and our philosophy and duty of care. The nurses and doctors I work with sign up to a philosophy of care that is evidence based and promotes and protects metaphysical concepts such as consent, self determinancy, dignity, respect, altruism, cultural and religious diversity. This enables nurses and doctors to protect the public and promote their human rights. I think we need to be better informed and that we should celebrate cultural and religious diversity.
      “It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense. It would be a description without meaning-as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure.”

    Yes, the analogy of relationships applies to our relationship with the Father, but the big difference between holding one's acceptance of a spouse and that of the Father, is that you already know the spouse is real because you can see her. The same can never be said of our Divine Father-friend. We can only know him as a result of trusting there's something there to interact with. "Blessed are those who believe without seeing." While all relationships are an end in themselves, one of the main benefits of being in a relationship with our Father is to become more perfect. Others can help point us there, and we do well to pay attention to their input, but the Father's guidance is better.

    The real Jesus doesn’t accept everyone unconditionally. He said unless you repent you will perish, and unless you forgive others you wont be forgiven. In addition, He says whoever keeps His words shall never taste death. Those that just say they believe in Him and dont keep His commandments are liars (1 John 2:4).

    • @josephthomasmusic
      @josephthomasmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Jose Technically no, because merit refers to whether or not you have earned it or are worthy of accepting it. If Jesus says whoever comes to me I will in no ways cast out, he's saying if you simply accept me, then you're in. There are no additional conditions that he is placing on you, he's simply saying open the door and I will let you in. That's not merit at all. That's an invitation. If it were merit, then Jesus would be like the god of Islam where you have to do more good things than bad things to prove your worth. He says come as you are, and accept my invitation.

    • @josephthomasmusic
      @josephthomasmusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shaunswebtv that's very true, but not quite the point that I was making. You're talking about living a life as evidence of the character of Jesus which God requires us to do. However that is not a requirement for salvation. That's a requirement for living the life of a Christian. If you do not live with that love and forgiveness in your life and in your heart you're basically playing the part of a liar if you know Jesus you would act like it. But if you want to be saved by Jesus you simply have to accept him and commit your life to him. In other words my point is about justification not about sanctification. When you are saved you are automatically justified for salvation but that does not necessarily mean that you are sanctified. In other words Jesus is saying that you are forgiven but you also need to act with forgiveness in your heart to prove to the world that you live by the person of Christ. Jesus does not want a 50/50 type of person. He wants an All or nothing type of person.

    • @jen4um
      @jen4um 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you truly believe you have to keep his commandments to earn the gift of salvation, then you misunderstand. The only thing required is faith that he died and rose again for your sin as he offered himself. If you came to faith and died the next minute you would be with Jesus. However, a person who is following Jesus will be transformed by the Holy Spirit and live different. The followers of Jesus will be different. I see Jesus in John Lennox. No matter how perfect we walk, we will at some point fail. Jesus whole reason for dying for us was because we will never be 100% perfect in this flesh. I listen to many street preachers who focus so much on sin and perfection and I do like those guys. I do agree with them to a point. However, our good works are not enough to cover our sin, it’s ONLY Jesus. The cross was the most important event in human history. It is the faith alone that saves us. Does that mean we don’t strive to be perfect? No of course not. John Lennox was not saying we don’t repent, he was explaining that there is nothing we can do to earn it. It is the gift of God truly a gift. If we could earn a gift it would not be a gift. That does not mean we are to live sinful lives. I don’t think he was saying anything about that. Initially to be saved it requires faith in Christ alone. Works will show a persons faith but salvation requires no work only faith.

      @@havadatequila you misunderstand righteous judgment. Jesus was without sin. They were defiling the temple. John Lennox was talking about salvation. Salvation is by grace through faith period. You do not work your way to salvation that is why it is a gift. Your only response is to accept it or reject it. Obedience to God’s ways of life are lived out through a regenerated soul. The Holy Spirit leads the believer. They can have victory over sins which are destructive. You must understand the salvation message is grace. Jesus took tour sun upon himself. He does not say, prove to me you are worthy before I accept you, he only says believe that I have died for your sin, that’s it. In the Old Testament God told the Jews to follow him. That was the simple message. They did not want that so God gave them rules knowing they could not keep them. That’s the point. Jesus was the sacrificial lamb for you and for me and for any one in the world who will come to him. You were made in the image of God. Look at yourself in the mirror and you will see God’s image. You live in a fallen world and you without Christ are covered in sin. Jesus removes the stain. He washes you white as snow. God bless you you are loved by God so much that he died for you.

      So you are saying that in order for me to not want to be tortured forever, I have to believe Jesus is the son of/the creator of the universe? I don't see the link between those two.
      Also, it is scarily similar to an abuser in a relationship saying, 'Well, you ASKED for it!' when the abused doesn't follow the rules exactly. If you didn't want to get hit, you'd have made dinner correctly, right?

      "Does the God you don't believe in abuse you?" No, but it bothers me that so many people consider this entity loving and moral based on the writings about it. I would enjoy an answer to my previous question though. Are you saying that in order not to be tortured forever, I have to believe Jesus came back to life with divine power 2000 years ago? Because if you ask me, "Do you want to go to hell and be tortured forever?" my answer is no.

    • @geoffcole2962
      @geoffcole2962 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that doesn't match what a lot of people have told me, that God doesn't send people to hell, people choose to go there. I also think that while our planet can be pretty awful, there are other parts that are absolutely wonderful, so I wouldn't call Earth hell. But I would like to understand how belief that Jesus came back from the dead leads to forgiveness from God. Wouldn't that mean every Hindu or Muslim person is absolutely condemned, regardless of what kind of person they are?

    • @geoffcole2962
      @geoffcole2962 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for taking the time to write a full reply to my questions, and I apologize if my response goes in several directions as what you wrote spawned several different lines of thought for me.
      I absolutely agree one could pull countless examples of human butchery from history books, but I'm not sure I follow to the conclusion that our world is irrevocably broken. Statistically, nearly every measure of human well-being (crime rates, infant mortality, deaths from disease, malnourishment, and access to clean water, etc.) has been improving as time goes on. People are more and more intolerant of slavery, predjudice, and malicious deception. I would never say that those things no longer exist, but on the whole things seem to be improving, not getting worse. I don't know if that trend will continue, obviously, but it seems there are people in every culture and religion working hard to make sure it does. I would speculate that excessive media coverage of terrible events paints a worse picture than reality.
      You wrote that not every Hindu or Muslim is automatically condemned, and I know many Christians who would absolutely reject that idea, citing passages like John 14:6. I'd be curious if you could elaborate on that, and I appreciate that you mentioned people who have never heard of Jesus, since those people definitely exist, and people who have been trained into other religions and taught to reject foreign messages. Going off of that, is hell a place of torment? Or obliteration, like they just cease to exist? What happens to those people who never hear the message, like the uncontacted tribe on North Sentinel Island (never interacted with any society except themselves that we know of)?
      Last I have to inquire further about sin and punishment. Correct me if I am wrong, but are you saying that all immoral acts are equal? For example, if I lie to a friend and say I am too busy to hang out when I am just tired, it sounds like that action merits the same punishment as those of a serial killer who tortures and murders his victims for pleasure. Does God view those actions equally?

    To believe that one's personal soul is going to be rewarded with eternal bliss, while being convinced that other evil souls will suffer for eternity, is the religious version of "survival of the fittest."

    • @jakekemps
      @jakekemps 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't agree with that assessment, but I humbly leave you this response. You may agree or not, I don't wish to start an argument. It's just a thought.
      All have fallen into sin, none are righteous, not one... We all have broken his law so we all deserve hell and owe a death. Myself assuredly... So it's not that any one soul is better than another, we are all equally condemned, so none should boast. (Even though some do, but that's another conversation)
      All that is left is the choice, the choice of faith in God or not. Either you believe in God and love him or you do not. If one doesn't, why on Earth would they want to be with the God they have rejected and in many cases despised for all of eternity? So eternal separation is giving those who do not believe exactly what they desired in life almost as much as it is a punishment for breaking God's law.
      & the reason hell is described the way it is, a place of immense suffering, is precisely because it is a place that is completely devoid of God's presence. The definition of eternal separation. It only logically follows that if God is the root of all that is good, as he is described, that such a place would be completely devoid of all that is good. Hence, the descriptors of hell, a place with no pleasure, no joy, no happiness, only pain and suffering.
      So it's not survival of the fittest, we all die, and we all either spend eternity with the God we love, or, we spend eternity apart from the God we rejected.

    Well, yes, the Christian religion is not merit based, it's based on a loving God, (whose love for us is infinite). But the idea that we're saved because Jesus died for our sins, has flaws in it. Did he die for everyone's sins, even non-Christians? Does the concept that God required yet another animal sacrifice, a hold-over concept from throwing the vestal virgin into the volcano (Yahweh started out as a volcano, btw), comport with the way Jesus depicted him?
    Sorry, but no, God required no such thing. That was Paul's biggest brain-fart. God loves us of his own free will (I know, I've felt it!). It's part of that not being merit-based. Jesus died in order to demonstrate the resurrection, to make good on his promise of eternal life.
    Jesus taught salvation through faith in our Divine Father-friend and acceptance of sonship with him. We are to have faith that our indwelling Father fragment, known as a Thought Adjuster, will successfully guide us in the paths to perfection.

      Understandable but when the church begins to go against the Bible and change certain things it gets hard to agree with them.

      You don't need to lecture to be a clear thinker. I'm a clear thinker with respect to evaluating evidence for the existence of a god. Lennox clearly isn't. I'll be happy to defer to him with regards to Mathematics.
