Snowplowing with a Mini-Skid Loader and a "DIY" snowblade.

  • Machine is a Thomas 25G wheeled Mini-Skid Loader / Tool Carrier. It is powered by a gas Kohler 25hp v-twin
I purchased this 52" snowplow from Princess auto on sale for $249 CAD. It was meant for an ATV. I figured I'd give it a shot since snowplows for walk-behind mini-skid loaders are upwards of $2000+tax. Snow-pushers for $3000.
I was able to swap the quick-attach universal mount plate from the auger attachment I have. I just drilled a few holes and cut off some excess square tubing to get it all mounted up with a floating setup.
This is the 4th time using the plow and I have to say it's been a joy! It's not the most robust unit. It does have a spring tipping hinge but I could probably bend the blade if I was careless. Overall, I think it was well worth the cost.
Also, It's so fun I can't resist doing my neighbours driveways also.
I've tried snowblowers, tractors with rear blades and push shovels =(. I also tried just using the 40" bucket in the early part of the video. This plow is by far the best. Our driveway and pathways would not allow a plowtruck to do a good job and it's a bit too labour intensive to do by hand/snowblower.
    Looking forward to more snowstorms!

Wow man awesome. I just picked up a boxer 320 mini track loader skid steer. I was also thinking about modifying a ATV BLADE to use on the boxer. Time for a trip to princess auto and see what they have for ATV snow plow.
Well a few weeks later I took a trip to princess auto and picked up the same plow. I must say it seems like good quality. Plow is all together now, just welding up a mount to my boxer320 mini track loader

In fast forward, the engine sounds like a COX .049.

It looks like the Ramrod version from Canada. Did they sell out? I had one for 10 years. Amazing machine.

You could fabricate a leaning post, make a bracket and seat that swings up to board the skid steer, or use an fire engine Man-Saver Bar. Older canopy cab fire engines had them on the rear seat areas, and some aerial platforms use them on the turntable. Ambulances, well larger types of them at least, have them for crew safety. Point is, they can be found in salvage yards or on auction sites. They are strong enough to lean against.
