Spotting talent wherever it exists, Shaw Brothers offered King Drummer as a showcase for the talented Ling Yun. He plays a young musician hired by the manageress of a popular band. The group's drummer/leader Charlie, a guy with an ego bigger than his drums, has just quit to join a rival group. As the new drummer, Ling becomes an immediate hit. But there's trouble brewing. The former drummer is now very jealous of his replacement while the young drummer's mother is dead set against him having a music career. You can say this is a catchy musical number with a good beat, especially with the gorgeous Lily Ho as the manageress in a band. With terrific drumming set pieces for Ling to demonstrate his skill, the whole thing, needless to say, comes off with a bang.
