This song is dedicated to my childhood bedroom. When all of our friends were moving out of Oxford to get proper jobs, move in with their partners and do grownup stuff, we stayed. I was in the bedroom I grew up in trying to write songs I wasn’t even sure anyone would ever hear. It’s a little room with a single bed filled with as many books and instruments I can fit in it. Not much about the room changed, but lots of things around it did. Different neighbours passed through; their kids grew up and started coming home on the weekends with their own kids; all of my siblings moved out; the old lady whose house my bedroom faced died and a young couple with their baby moved in; various relationships ended (or crashed and burned before take off); the world steadily imploded. But there we were, still working on music we were never sure (and still aren’t sure) would ever get us anywhere.
There’s a reassurance in the constancy of something like my room, but a fear too; a feeling of running on the spot whilst everyone else is running forwards. We finally finished the track in France just before the first lockdown (it’s almost 3 years old!)…nice for it to finally be out there. Hope you’re enjoying. Carlos x
