It's definitely peculiar. It could be argued that Miles Morales isn't REALLY Peter's sidekick, but he definitely acts as one in some adaptations lol.

Their game play styles are also quite similar. Especially with the newer games.
Swinging around the city on Playstation as Spider Man, timing every thwip and flying through the air feels a lot like running around as Sonic and timing every jump in Frontiers. A lot of feel-good parkour and acrobatics (the same can be said for the combat)
I can see it! I love how both characters control in their respective games. It just feels great to move around, and they both negate the need for fast travel lmao.

Great vid! I think it's funny that despite their shared fanbase they couldn't be more different design-wise.
Iirc Sonic was made with the idea of him being easy to draw in mind so all the artistically inclined kids could make nice drawings of their favorite character. His head is essentially a circle with three triangles and three ovals. All his most iconic poses are equally easy to draw (his figure 8 peel-out, his jump ball, etc.)
Spider-Man was made by Steve Ditko, a dude who loved drawing hands (infamously the most difficult part of the human body to draw). Combine that with the complex suit pattern, all the contortion, and dynamic poses Spidey is known for he's easily one of the most challenging popular characters to draw.
Just thought it was an interesting dichotomy :)
Super interesting dichotomy! Never considered the difference in their design philosophies! Ironically, I actually find it harder to draw a good Sonic, than a good Spider-Man! Glad you enjoyed, awesome to see you back! :D

As a few others have pointed out, I think they both have a very appealing movement style. And the media follows suit, being kinetic and colourful.
I’ve also noticed a lot of Transformers fans like Sonic, but that’s probably just a UK thing…
It all makes sense now. Even if it took me years to fully get into Spider-Man, because thanks to the Venom movies. Before that, I did see the Raimi Spidey movies on TV, same with the 90s cartoon, USM cartoon and also seeing TASM1 and Spiderverse in cinemas.
So even if I wasn't really into that at the time, if you were to tell me what super hero I like I of likely said Spider-Man.
But yeah both characters feel similar to one another there's a lot of parallels to one of another. Which, also explains why I like Sonic and Shadow being a duo as it was just a pipeline for me liking Spider-Man and Venom later on, the vibes to those characters are just kinda similar.

My answer: Yes. They each convey a tone of voice that fit Sonic at different ages like how Craig can give a voice for Sonic if he was more mature and older. So to answer the question of which voice actor best fits Sonic: It comes down to which Sonic as a whole is your favorite. If you like Adventure Era Sonic or Meta Sonic or Modern, it can be any of them.
100% agreed. They all convey different ages and maturities of the character, depending on the era. They all suit the characters for the games they're in IMO.
For me, personally Jason will always reign supreme, but that's largely based on nostalgia, as well as that version of the character being my favourite, and having the most relatability. Hope you enjoyed! :D

And for me personally I like Craig's voice but that's mainly because that's the main Sonic I've been watching lately. I did watch some Sonic X a while back but then it stopped and Boom showed up.

Well, Sonic is primarily a Videogame character. Spider-Man definitely has his fair share of games too.
But generally Spidey isn't as associated with games as Sonic.

My 2¢ on the VA debate: I could just cheat and say Jun'ichi Kanemaru. I love all the American VAs, don't get me wrong, but Kanemaru will never not be the voice I hear when I read Sonic lines. I think Drummond at his peak was the closest we got to matching Kanemaru's inflection and energy.
Mostly I feel it comes down to opportunity. All 3 VAs have the ability to get at the emotional core of what I love about the character but Drummond and especially Smith simply didn't get scripts/direction conducive to bringing out their best.
Drummond's games were the victim of some less-than-stellar localization and likely very little voice direction, Smith simply came in at a time where the series wasn't focusing on story, but Griffith got some of the most story and character based games in the series to this day: Shadow the Hedgehog, the Storybook series, Unleashed, not to mention Sonic X as his launching-off point.
tl;dr Kanemaru's my fave but of the American VAs Griffith got the most opportunities to flex his chops so it's hard to say.
Josh Keaton & Yuri Lowenthal will have to rock paper scissors for my favorite Spidey voice tho.
I think you've nailed it on the head there. Kanemaru has absolutely nailed the character for the many years he's played Sonic. It's a treat to hear his Sonic stay as consistent has he has.
Jason has definitely had the most opportunities to flex his emotional range as the character- he definitely started out a tad iffy as the character but ended out refining the voice to a near perfection.
If Roger is to stay as the character, I hope he takes the same route, refining the voice to match a situation.
As for Spidey, it's gotta be Yuri for me. 100%. The best voice, hands down.
@@SefWhiter Totally agree on Roger. I know he's got the chops to do altruistic, hopeful, and serious at once, I mean his second most popular role is Captain America. I really do wish that if anything they'd been able to keep Griffith on board for his Shadow tho, no offense to Kirk Thornton but Griffith's Shadow is one of his best performances ever, it's fantastic.

I love both but I can't get into Sony's Spiderman video games. In the other hand I consume a lot of Sonic media but I can't get into Netflix's Prime series neither
I absolutely adore PS Spider-Man, but I can't seem to get into Prime either, I'm with you there man!
I don't know about you but it feels a little too detached from the main canon to hook me in the same way, but too close to the main canon to have the same appeal as a spin-off... It's odd.
