  • In this video I have the remote key for for my Mercedes CLK w208 and basically one of the fobs stopped working even after changing the battery, so before disposing of the remote try swapping the battery's around. Check the video and you will see what I mean.

You were correct! Same thing just happened to my Key Fob. 2 new Duracell 2025's would not work. Bought 1 2035 , insert with the new 2025 and it worked straight away!
    Thank you!

Is a 2035 battery a thing? I just went to autozone and did not see it, did you mean a 2032?

Had the same problem with my two W211 key fobs.Thought they where both dead.
    New batteries did not help.
Started measuring the voltages of several new and used 2025's.They all measured around 3.3volt with no load.
Then I connected a 1k load , and surprice, some batteries dropped to 2.4 2.5 volts, even some new ones , others easily reached 3.0 volts and with these both keyfobs worked fine.
Lessons learned , do not buy cheap batteries they won't work in mercedes keyfobs!! Or test them with a 1k load , they should at least measure 2.8 volts then.

mystery solved I believe: I had the exact same problem which brought me here. My engineering degree and career wasn't any help either. THEN I remembered how hard it was to take my new batteries out of the packaging. It was super thick shrink-wrapped and had to be cut out and yanked to still get it out of the plastic. Could the packaging process have left a residue on the batteries? I cleaned the batteries with 91% Isopropyl alcohol and wala!!! no more problems. Well I'm sticking to my solution as the mystery solver. Hope it works for others too. Cheers!

All i can guess is the battery polarity is reversed on one of the batteries. If you tried flipping the battery on top of the other and check voltage?

How can the polarity reverse itself ? Well in the end I change the batteries and problem solved.

@@DaringBeefcake no idea. I have a 99 slk 230 keyfob that wont operate the locks. Its an older style fob with the metal flip key. Put in new batteries. The door lock 20a fuse was bad. Changed it. Reprogram process i found was press either button 2x then turn ignition key to position 2 and it should be programmed. Locks wont function however keyfob light works and all turn signal lights blink ( once with one button and three times with other) as manual states it should. Any ideas what else to check? Im a lifelong mechanic of classic cars but not much experience on newer cars yet.

@@rod1499 did this key fob work with the car before you change the central locking fuse and the batteries on the key fob ? if not then may be the key fob is faulty.. is the central locking working if you operated it manually ?

@@DaringBeefcake Just recently bought the car and the fobs never worked. How is the manual central locking operated? Thanks!!!

ok guys, duracell adds a bitterant coating on their batteries to make them safe..lol i believe this is why the voltage cant be measured by the mulitimeter. also on another fob mb video the 2032 worked, the guy believed it was the phisical width was a micro thicker. sorry for the shit typing, cat on belly lo
