I believe there was a degree of "me too" engineering with these Technics speakers, so yes, the comparison is totally valid. And yes, I saw the future of cd, with people dumping collections for cheap. I payed around a dollar a cd. The market is a little barren now. Essentially I did the same with my vinyl collection. Bought them cheap when nobody saw value in them.
They seem to have enough breathing room. I'm only powering them with the 10 watts per channel Leak Stereo 20. They have good bass and plenty of volume.
Those speakers remind me of the Yamaha NS 5000’s look wise. One heck of a cd collection too

Those speakers look great ! But are they too much for that room? they look like they need more space.
