- Baling hay with a team of four horses, an inline baler and a 1534 Norden Mfg Hay Accumulator. This equipment is owned by an Amish farmer in central Illinois. He uses a Norden Mfg 615 Grabber on a skid steer to pick the grabs of hay up and stack them on trailers and wagons. www.nordenmfg.com
We were driving down the road and spotted an Amish lady out baling with this rig. The Amish are opposed to having their picture taken, much less video, so we hopped on and drove the hitch and let the lady rest under the shade tree while we shot this video. You can catch a glimpse of her in the background, to the right, at the very beginning.
Norden Mfg was previously Kuhns Mfg but the company renamed itself in 2022 to reduce confusion with another farm equipment company.

hello when i was a young boy i workling with the Belgain draft horse in Belguim this video relazi me i came older and older, the good old day s
This is the coolest hay baling system I have seen to date! Thank you for sharing!
so amazing, glad you kept most of their tails
Llkl
You are right. The guy driving is not Amish. Since they are opposed to having their picture taken, we drove and let the lady that was driving rest under the shade tree while we shot the video.
Now that`s REAL horsepower. Beautiful.
Really people, who cares if the Amish use an engine for this machine or that machine. Who are we to question their beliefs anyway, it is what it is. Hey, neat video and fun to watch! Thanks for sharing......
I think it is beautiful your way of life in the sight of God .Keeping thing simple and beautiful!the way you love ,live, and have your devotion to Him alone is beautiful.
No. God doesn't exist.
Dot Crawford simple are you kidding me there’s nothing simple about these cultists first of all don’t you think it would make more sense and be more simple using a tractor? These people believe they will go to hell if they use a tractor in the field ?
That's awesome it's like plinko with hay bails
No words THANK U FARMER
Thanks for posting this, I loved it!!! That accumulator is really ingenious and simple! I do see the Amish woman under the tree in the beginning. I also saw the skidsteer and dually with trailer circling for a pickup. I was hoping to see the the skidsteer attachment in action. I suppose your website might have other videos. I also loved that this was over 10 mins long....giving time to enjoy every aspect...I watched it twice so far lol. Thanks again!
Why don't they fit a front loader on a horse?
Great video....wonderful engineering on that tool!
Wow, look at all the hay (alfalfa) leaves falling on the ground! That’s the most valuable part of the hay.
Nice comment, You must be so proud of yourself.
Wonderful...
Very good job!!!!
Amazing! I look forward to a day when we must return to better days.
Mee too.All morons say we'll evolve to a world were no1 will work, only robots, where gouvernmets will provide assured income (from what source as no1 is doing anything,i don't know) with automated flying cars and all shit, but i not only don't belive it,it totally dismise it.Even if the world would go to the automated everything, they would still need to be mentained and built by some1,and that can't be machines,as they won't ever be smarter than their creators.Well, who in the right minds, think that only engineers and mechanics will works, for the rest of everyone else ?
As there will be no income to buy the diesel (and it will finish sometime soon) the people will have to go back to subsistence farming wich means the era of GOING BACK TO ROOTS AND ONLY NECESAR THING will come, and i can't wait for that day to come ...

Great video.
I absolutely ADORE that rolling engine ... What is called and when was it produced ?
Brawo. Piękna technika;)
Proper chivalry!!
very nice video.i like this machine
Very interesting video.
very fascinating was watching seen how it changed rows to put bails in but haven't figured out how it know when there is 15 bales on to dump.
trip levers in the 3 and/or 4 row. You can see it about 3 minutes in.
The reason they don't have tractors is because if you have tractors, you want more land, and that is what lead to the lifestyle that most of us have, the one they made all these rules to avoid. Horses, you get
I just wish more people understood the Amish... it's all a matter of what sect you're in and what the church elders will allow. Far too many misconceptions out there.
Actually if you use an accumulator like this the entire purpose is to lay the bales down so that you can use a front loader on a tractor to pick up 15 at a time. As for the horses vs. a tractor, it doesn't take NEAR the horsepower or fuel to run a baler as it does to run a baler and drive it up and down the field. Not sure why you'd combine it with an accumulator though....
Trying to beat the rain?
I see the Amish moved up couple decades. Thats a pretty cool set-up.
Very surprising to hear the Amish lady would just let a complete stranger drive her team of horses
I was thinking the same thing,,where's the difference between using a gas engine to run the baler and using a tractor to run the baler?
Awesome!!!
That's a lotta wind.
Beautiful to see. Amazing god and his creation. Amen 🙏
So called god, I guess you mean the wicked false Jewish god, had nothing do do with must of this!, or even the horses!
👍👍👍
!! Magnífico vidio...felicidades..!!
I don't think this baler is run on anything but gears transferring horsepower. Also, I read an article where it compare the amount of energy required to farm via horses vs today's heavy energy laden methods today. The horses won.
Steel wheels on the engine rig but rubber tyres on the baler and accumulator?
amish are allowed to use gas engines or generators all they want for farming and other business needs although the only source of locomotion can be the horse or ox. this is so it takes longer to do your work and that means you stay working longer. to them the more you work the better. i once was told by an amish guy that work is love for god made visible. they cannot plug into the electric grid or have any electricity of any kind in there homes. hope that clears up a few things for people.
Thank you. We can never learn too much.
I have seen them use steel wheel tractors. They can't use pneumatic tires God is the only one allowed to ride on air.
Excuse my ignorance but why rotate the bales, does it make it easier to lift them with the grabber?
They usually like to store the bales on edge because the hay sweats better and doesn't mold as quickly.
Glendon Kuhns thanks that's good to know
This is not Amish! I see many of you attacking the Amish life style but if you know anything about the Amish you can watch this video for 10 seconds and realize it's probably a farmer who enjoys working with his horses. As for Amish, I wouldn't knock them, I don't agree with there religions but they are hard working respectful people if we had a little bit of their work ethic in our society we wouldn't be handing out all of these entitlements.
This is an Amish owned setup. They do not want to be on camera so two men took turns driving the hitch while the Amish lady that had been driving took a break under the shade tree.
why horses, when there is an engine there
why don't make an all electric bailer or one that is driven by the wheels
you still are using a gas or diesel engine to run that bailer where the tractor goes what a ?
niezła maszyna fajny filmik
What happens when your tractor hasnt come back from the shop and you need to get the bales off the field
Instead of being stuck in 1870, I would be stuck in 1970. With a Ford 4000 and a Massey 135. And a Dodge Dart.
@remmidemmi01 They can use gas engines. They don't use electricity. They don't want wires coming into their house, so no phone either. Actually what ever their community allows them to use they can use. I worked construction with a bunch for a while and they will use power tools, they can't own them, but they can use them. Just like a cell phone, they always wanted to borrow mine.
Why the horses with an engine powering the baler, why not use a tractor instead of horses, I don't get it.
Skid Steer is allowed but a tractor is not?
Nonpnematic tires is the difference. Yes they will ride in cars but only for necessities.
Like in old times....
Save the world, buy a horse!
patil you
I don´t work with the food in front of me.....great video
i would like to try this
Класс!!!
Mai visto niente di simile .
Aproves
What kind of engine is that?
Diesel
@seancarm ...hmm... - but a cell phone doesn't need wires into a house - nevertheless not allowed? Mobile phone network is everywhere - in the houses of amish too! Furthermore I ve seen amish farmers in television that use electric milking machines!
But that is absurd! If they use engines to drive a baler, they can use a tractor just as well!?!
lets see him reverse that rig!!
whats the big deal? if they want these rules let em have them. they may seem contradictory but it's theyre life if it doesn't infringe on others go for it.
I really don't see the pint of using horses to pull a gas engine to runm modern equipment. They might as well go ahead and use a tractor to!
I thought, its not allowed to use petrol or gas engines for amish!?!
Whilst there are many things I admire about the Amish, this just doesn't make sense. It cannot be good for the horses, being forced to pull such a heavy load.
that is some loose bales look at the bend in them as they exit the baler, i bet you grab them and they bow half into
maybe they use their hands to lift the bales!?
@remmidemmi01 I agree with ya. But steering wheels are against they're religion. That's why they don't have tractors and crap. The guy in the pickup with the trailer is probly the buyer. And the skid steer is over a church group. The guy with the longest beard is the guy granted the right to have the Skid Steer. At least that's how it is in Alamosa/Monte Vista, Colorado.
Hay is not wet look at dust green because good hay
I need so hay do anyone have any please let me no
i think tht the machine thing baler works on its own
the horses only pull it all along
no need fr tracter here
Somebody had a dream...
Anyway.. it needs diesel turbin.. So no logic there. Show me which uses only horse power
ya not Amish his on the phone theres skid loader picking up bales in the background looks like a demonstration.
Read the info at the start before you make your ignorant comment.
@bob80813 ...perhaps with a front loader - driven by horses... lol ...
Ca aussi c'est l'Amérique?!!!!!
c ta maman
What....and I bought a tractor. they are running with 4 horse power. My riding lawnmower has 20.
@remmidemmi01 Plus this guy isn't amish
The amount you'd pay for that sledge you could of bought a tractor
Turbine2k8 And that fabulous tractor does the accumulating of the bales then? Would like to seee that happen......
Just get a fork and a wagon
Who could ever understand
Unless a person love a horse to pull engine that powers the baler and using skid loader and a truck with trailer don't make to much scene not to buy a tractor real bs or really smart
Lol, it varies a lot from community to community. Some communities don't allow certain things or draw the lines at different places than others.
And PLEASE, I get tired of hearing people say that kind of stuff against their religion! No it's not! Going to war, infant baptism, and integration with "the world" are things that are against their religion. Those things that you all see are decisions that they make solely for their own benefit to help them better keep their religion.
@remmidemmi01 My grandpa works with em' a lot and it's my understanding that if it involves electricity or take equipment for example, it has a STEERING WHEEL, it's against their religion.
OK pull it with a tractor and guide it with a horse or even a tiller. Would that be allowed?
Конная тяга в 21 веке - это диагноз.
Poor horses ... why not use a tractor for pulling ... horses should be out enjoying life ...
Horses seem to enjoy working.
Ca, pret cit costa
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍☺️😂
ME MANCA GIUST QUATTRO CAVAI.....
Isn't this what kids are for? Why buy a bale stacker when you can have free labor? I guess no one has kids anymore.
@Superduty011 A religion against a STEERING WHEEL? I want a religion against ridiculousness...
catte en tratur.....
These are Amish or cheating I see a bobcat a pickup truck they're not supposed to be using this kind of stuff next thing they will be flying airplanes
He is Emglish not Dutch.
achete un tracteur!!
This is a blonde invention, use a motor to run the machine and pull with horses, same amount gas with a tractor including.
poor horses, ya wrk them to death just cant understand why ppl wanna wrk like dogs
I understand a desire not to be part of the current tech, not that I would choose such a life. But to call a horse team pulled baler horse driven, when the baler is clearly being run by a diesel engine is just b*s*...
Give the horses a rest and buy a old weak tractor, maybe a steam job....
You would only see this in Amish country, using motorized everything except the one spot they should be using it. Making those horses carry that heavy load all day. It makes no sense. Using a motor to drive the baler, skid steer to load the bales and a truck to haul them, BUT not use a tractor to run the baler, WTF! Backward thinking people
cormus1 Yet the 'Amish' will still be here long after us 'urban' people are long gone.
They've only told us that, in the hope of thinking that brainwashing us into believing that loosing our jobs will some how be our better lot :(
I see everyone on here doggin them for using horses instead of a tractor, live and let live you judgemental jerks, besides have you ever opened a gate and talked your tractor thru it.
Well that's cool but if you're pulling a rolling engine you might as well have a tractor. Cool but not practical.
Toute une scrap machine:((((((
Hes using an engine, cut the shit and buy a tractor already.
Makes no sense you got a motor turns ng baler just get a tractor
This is ridiculous why would you not just buy a tractor
What a bunch of hypocrites these people are....horses with a power unit driving the baler????
They won't have a phone in their house, but they will come and use yours......why even use the horses in the first place??? Does that make it more Amish??? Bullshit....
