    Daria is natural-born teacher. She knows that there is a learning curve, she doesn't arrogantly assume that the material is "obvious", or "self-evident", or "just common sense". She knows that the student must be made familiar with new concepts (and supporting concepts). And she has a great ability for communication (so that it doesn't feel like she is towering over you, looking down on you).

    "In Russian, the word order can be very flexible." In the rest of the world, people take damage by falling off roofs, but in Russia, roofs take damage by falling off people. In other places, people get struck by lightning bolts, in Russia, lightning bolts get struck by people.

      It must be how the "In Soviet Russia" meme started.

    • @SamnissArandeen
      @SamnissArandeen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If lightning bolts get struck by people, you have more to worry about than the order your words come in. Namely, that somewhere along the line, your people acquired the Chuck Norris Gene.

    • @larsswig912
      @larsswig912 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my native language we have no cases like this that distinguishes what does what to what, but in daily speech the word order gets thrown around like clothes in a washing machine. It's just figured out by context.
      So in my country, chicken eat people.

    • @spacevspitch4028
      @spacevspitch4028 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Man...I'm such an idiot. I've studied Russian off and on for years (even did all 90 lessons of Pimsleur Russian twice but I'm still pretty much a high level beginner). So of course I know about cases and all that and even though I've made my own little jokes based on that old Russian meme, it never occurred to me that the meme is probably a play on the flexibility of Russian word order itself. Doh!

    She is the best teacher on TH-cam. I could have probably made it this far with other content, but I wonder if I’d have the grasp on what I’ve learned so far that I do. This is basically like sitting in a classroom. It’s bleeding into my life, I was watching a movie where a guy said yes my son in Russian. For the first time in my life(I mean to say without expecting to.), I organically heard the words of another language as clearly as if I heard them said in English. It was a simple phrase but so beautiful to experience, thanks for this series!!!

    Very helpful lesson. I can vouch for what you said concerning trying to learn cases from tables. I spent a lot of time trying to memorize German case endings, and they were driving me nuts. There's really no easy way to do that. (And German has only 4 cases). But once I decided to just listen to German conversations and not worry too much about which case goes where, I began to start acquiring the language more naturally. I still don't speak German fluently, but I'm certainly progressing faster and more efficiently now.
    Thank you for these great lessons. You're a great teacher, and I'm excited about being able to learn Russian with you. Learning Russian is something I always wanted to do.

    Darya be like: Russian cases are scary! And difficult! But it’ll be okay, I’ll help you through it step by step
    Me, who has had Ancient Greek for 2 years and Latin for 6: I think I’ll be fine. Gimme the tables.
    Also, much thanks Darya, you’re a lovely teacher. There’s not many on youtube who take on a more ‘slow’ approach. And while I personally don’t mind quick paced for I have language experience and knowledge already in languages similar (german, greek, latin) it’s easy for me. But many others need a bit more explanation and examples, as well as a calmer style of teaching. So it’s great to see someone offer it on youtube. I’m just sticking around because you’re fun to watch :)
    (I also found your channel like… 3 years ago. But I didn’t have much time to study russian. My highschool was… insanely busy. But I have time now and have been on a two week streak, so now, in my lil break before finals / in summer break I’ll go study Russian and bother my Russian friends with a butchered pronunciation because im too shy to speak outloud XD)

    This is wonderful! It helps so much! In ancient Hebrew the subject of a sentence is marked by эт preceding the word but in Hebrew letters, of course.

    Hello .. hello Daria .. Thank you for your lessons, they're greatly helpful.. In Arabic we also have cases in order to understand the language especially the formal one..but we don't use letter ending ..but they're called diacritical marks.

    An interesting conceptual lesson. Can’t wait for the next lesson on declensions. I’ve heard of them, but it will be an entirely new concept for me.

    Most of the cases are quite familiar to me. In Greek, we have 4 cases: Nominative, Genitive, Accusative, Vocative. Dative exists in Ancient Greek only. By the way, I loved your video on children's books - ПРО МАШУ И МАННУЮ. I didn't understand every single word, but I got the gist! I also appreciate your slow Russian videos!

    In Bulgaria, back in the days. We learned cases using specific questions. It was an easy way to remember them.

    Don't worry, you have just to use them, not to be able to know the names of the cases in Russian...as Daria tells: use real sentences as examples.
    The clarity of the construction of sentences is superb (as in Latin...)

    Wait,if I'm from Croatia I will definitely start learning them all because I know how and when to use each case,am I right? And I'll also learn as Russians do because Croats learn in the same order Nominativ,genitiv,dativ and so on. Great advantage to speak one Slavic language,yet it made my Russian learning a lot easier. Greetings from Croatia Daria❤

    I hope you had a great vacation! You work so hard to help us all with our Russian! So it's good for you to be able to take some time out to chill out (no pun intended) with you family in Omsk.
    Спасибо for the new lesson! I'm a long way off before I reach that level but I will get there eventually.

    The best way to describe cases to a speaker of a tongue that doesn't have cases, would be to say thqt the nouns change form in accordance with the their function in the sentance. Actually many languages have them.
    In Serbian we have 7 cases, the Russian ones +vocative, when you are calling someone, to me it would be "Miloše", to others: Aleksandre, Marija, Majo,...

    It might sound strange, but I try to Romanize/Latinize the words I hear you teach. I use google translate to try to figure out how it sounds and match it up with the English/Roman/Latin alphabet. Writing it out like that helps me learn how to pronounce the words.
