  • An early Packers lead is wiped away by a fierce comeback led by Dallas QB Dak Prescott before the legendary Aaron Rodgers takes over and connects on one of the greatest throws in NFL playoff history to Jared Cook, setting up Mason Crosby for the game-winning field goal in this classic from the 2016 NFC Divisional Round.

    If only we gave Rodgers a defense for most of his career. He’d have at least 3 rings

      More than one, for sure. I think Brady had a top ten scoring D every year he won one.
      How many times did we see the Pack get BTFO or Rodgers not get a chance to touch the ball at the end of the game because the D couldn't get a stop?

    Just imagine how awesome this would have been if Nantz/Romo would have called it instead of Joe "pass iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisss caught" Buck.
    Rodgers is phenomenal... hope he returns to this form this year!

      I'm not too optimistic. He'll be throwing to the same bunch of free agents and late picks that he was last year.
      Hopefully someone improves and steps up. Maybe Sternberger or Lazard.

    The greatness of Rodgers cannot be overstated. As great as Brady is, he doesn't hold a candle next to Rodgers in terms of pure talent, athleticism and wowness.

      So, this is my opinion, take it or leave it. Sorry about the long post, but I"ve had no one to vent to about this so the internet is going to receive it.
      I believe the whole debacle goes all the way up to the top with Mark Murphy, but I'll get to there. I think TT degenerative cognitive issues were affecting him for quite a few years leading up to him stepping down after the '17 season. Look at the draft classes leading up to those, most of the guys just didn't pan out. His almost complete refusal overall to even dip a toe into FA just was insane because of how cheap he was. Look at how Gutenkunst hit a home run on almost all 4 FA last year, that's a rarity, but he did it. This year, he went and found some relatively inexpensive options to replace people. Kirksey may not be an upgrade, but it's not like Martinez was killing it. Wagner can probably be a good stop gap for Bulaga if he stays healthy, and Fuchness is a cheap WR target who is at least a veteran.
      This leads into Mark Murphy who I believe has failed as the President of the team. This dude was way too concerned with building Titletown Plaza and just letting the status quo happen as is. Any sane owner of a team would've made a change with the consistent shortcomings of the teams and the apparent lack of talent. He even admitted after hiring Gutenkunst that they all were basically in silos and he rarely talked to the head coach and GM.
      Dom Capers didn't do well either, but he didn't have a Rodgers that can cover up a lot of shortcomings. DC had an aging Matthew, a bunk Perry, and a horrible secondary that consisted of a lot of UDFA. While I wasn't shedding tears at DC going, I don't think it's all his fault when the pieces he was given to work with just weren't cutting it as TT kept missing on picks. Apart from teh '13 season, the Packers had a #10-15 defense so it's not like they were at the bottom of the league. You'd want better, but the lack of quality playmakers began to hurt the Defense.
      Lastly, MM never innovated. I think this began to show it's cracks when the WR corps dropped from its elite level and the average RBs they continued to have after Cheeseburger Lacy showed up. His scheme became outdated and most times fans could just guess what he was calling before it was even run.
      The sad truth about all of this, is if even one of the points I made above was fixed, there probably would be at least 1-2 more Lombardi Trophies in Green Bay. I think that's what sucks the most is we've all seen Rodgers's prime wasted and who knows how long it's going to be. That's why Guntenkunst as a GM has shown initial promise in my opinion, he will do whatever it's going to take to bring a championship home.

      @@kyleklein3169 Don't sugar-coat it. Tell us how you really feel.
      I have to agree that TT had tunnel-vision when it came to putting a team together. Why he was like this is anyone's guess. He would draft a player, let him develop, then let him leave, and start over. This was a process that repeated dozens of times while he was GM. We should have known what was in store for the team when he allowed both OGs - Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera - leave without offering a contract. Both had a Pro Bowl season after leaving GB.
      The team's lack of success wasn't always the GM's fault or that of the coaches. Injuries played a big part. Especially on Defense. As stale as he became, Dom Capers did more-with-less better than anyone else in the NFL.
      I predict better things this year for WRs and the entire Offensive unit. AR is more comfortable with the playbook and doing the same things for a 2nd straight year has to help. I don't envy Gute. Staying with the young WRs last year was disastrous. I chalk it up to "growing pains" AND having to learn a different scheme. Which players do they keep and which do they get rid of?

    I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again and I’ll keep saying it, Thompson should have re-signed Cook. This game alone showed that him and Rodgers were really starting to connect.

    • @Elite90s
      @Elite90s 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Also should've kept Micah Hyde. The fact that ted didn't even offer him a contract is a slap to the face.

      benjamin will Exactly, Rodgers has been cheapened out of more championships by Thompson being stubborn and unwilling to compromise. Gute seems like he’s working to do his best to reload and has done a decent job so far (Graham was a monumental mistake though)

    • @thefitchemist2123
      @thefitchemist2123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      cpk1994 His way won a Super Bowl sure, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be any room for compromise and adapting to changing times. Plus those last few years with McCarthy and Thompson had nothing but a feel of complacency with mediocrity. They got so close a few times to another Super Bowl but didn’t do much of anything the following offseason to get over that hump.

    Dang when you have Gunter as your number 1 CB and Jake Ryan and Joe Thomas as your ILBs and still win... this Packers team was truly lucky to have gotten to the title game. We should have kept Cook for one more year, ted was too clueless at the time. Lastly, I keep forgetting we had Julius Peppers for a while, probably the more appropriated signing for ted.
