Great gameplay. Tip: In mission 6, there is a herd oswocs just southeast of the Queen's position...I usually go there right after defeating the Predator captors in order to jumpstart an upgradable hive.
If any game deserves a TRUE remaster, it's this one. NOT a remake. Also glad someone is playing this WITH a commentary. No games from the OG Xbox and PS2 days have commentary and it shows.. saw one other guy and he just swore constantly and tbh it was awful. Hope you get bigger my friend. Try putting out games in 20sh minute parts. You'll get a larger audience. Seeing 4 hours on a video is a big turn down for most viewers that have jobs and lives that take most of their time. Keep it up man
With regard to Mission 6, you asked how someone would intuitively know that the Queen was off to the right. Speaking from personal experience, the first time I got to this mission, the opening still image at 1:32:10 shows the Queen being dragged off to the right. I took this to mean the Queen was in that direction, and I ended up being right.
One exploit I use during Alien mission 2, is to put hive nodes on surfaces that the Marines can't scale, there is a cliff that is outside the cave in the level that is too high for them to hit anything accurately. If you put a hive node ahead of where you started, the patrol of Marines will try at all costs to destroy it. When the hive node is on this cliff, they will just stand next to the cliff, unable to attack it. And they will keep sending in new units to attack it even if they can't, so you will have a Marine that looks like he's one unit, but he is actually 20 all standing in one place. This works as a nice distraction while you are building up your horde and attacking the base directly, so you will spend less time waiting to replace units that you lose.
There were plans for a skirmish mode, but there was a bug in the coding and were ordered by Fox Interactive to scrap the entire game and remake it from scratch with less time to complete it.
That is a crying shame. I would still be playing it to this day if there was more variety. Only so many times you can do the same 21 missions before it gets dull. Especially as only 6 of those allow the full arsenal to be used.
Brilliant commentary, even if you couldn't get the right words out at times ;) Loved this game growing up and you hit the nail on the head when it comes to issues like path finding, and no skirmish mode. Still a fun time whenever I do hop back on though.
Aha, thanks! I bloody hate my voice and I’ve been putting off commentating for ages. Only way to improve is to just go for it. Hopefully it gets better with time. Thank you for the kind words 😊
Loved this game growing up, I do believe there is an attack while moving option which allows the xenos to attack enemies in an area rather than a specific target, I played this on og Xbox and I believe command was “Lt B” however that translates to PlayStation controls
Nostalgia is strong, this was one of the first games i played as a kid. But i agree with your Sentiments re-guarding the path finding issue. Kinda wish they would remake this game with the same play style but like new and other stuff.
This game holds a very special in my heart, as it was a big part of my childhood. I love it despite its many flaws. I do get frustrated sometimes because I think what could have been. I totally agree with you, some kind of remake or an up to date re-imaging would be amazing.
@@crukih7527 out of all the games I have ever played in this is the one game I have never been able to beat. I was very young when this game first came out and this is what got me into games so this game also hold a special meaning to me as well I am glad to find somebody shares that sentiment with me.
Great video! Normally have a hard time watching RTS walkthroughs, but between the nostalgia and advice that I wish my younger self knew at the time, it managed to stay interesting throughout.

there is an attack move, L1+O, really useful for marines and ranged units, hit and miss for melee units

@@crukih7527 No problem ^_^, keep it up. Already enjoying The Suffering commentary as well.

Agreed. New maps. Characters. Cutscenes.

Did you use the original Xbox to play this?
