Very random question, but does anyone know that piece is played at the beginning of all the Vic Firth Marimba literature videos??? Its on all the video and it sounds pretty cool
Any other marimbists feel like all these firth recordings are musically too static? It's like there was a technical issue and the performer couldn't play to soft, and the music isn't supposed to be anything but the page. I felt bored near the middle because, despite the composition being pretty, the music felt like it didn't live and breathe. Is this just me?
It's like that so people can use it as a base reference, and then add their own musicality to the piece. If the players added much extra it'd be a bit difficult to distinguish between song and flair.
@Kevin Reyes Even if the page says only two dynamics, mp and mF, it's up to the performer to make it more than just that. mp and mF shouldn't be two parts of a spectrum, they should be two worlds in their own right.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, uhh SIX octaves on this marimba? Nice i like that
eating food makes you age isn’t that just a regular 5.0 octave?
@@raghavsurya4229 no apparently it's custom made with the 6th octave in the xylo range (read that on a different comment here)
Chloe Dupras oh coolio
it's only 5 and like a third octave
How we all be counting octaves on marimbas
I've never actually taken the time to.listen to a solo on the Marimba. It was absolutely gorgeous music.
You should listen to more
Hey David I highly recommend you watch strive to be happy by ivan trevino i played it for a solo and got a one on it and qualified for state
@@rileyrath9347 i loved learning and playing that piece!!

One of my all time favorite pieces of marimba literature!
Learning this solo right now so frustrating in different areas because it’s a scale pattern but missing one note, but beautiful nonetheless
Saaaameeee😂😭
Does anyone know if this can be played on a regular 4.3 octave?
Kate Stewart Yes
Yes
Yes, this solo is written for 4.3 octave marimba
Had a marimba kind of day today so I have been watching solos and this is so beautiful and well executed. Virtuosic performance!! 👍
played this piece for my university audition, really one of my favourites. gotta take the time to relearn it.
Cuando se necesita paz no hay nada mejor que escuchar estas ejecuciones

Yep! It's the Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite No. 5.
@@ngnjr1229 Thank you sooo much
Gotta learn this.
This was beautiful. Thank you!
I’m playing this for my senior solo

@@davidle6387 well!

Marimbists
Yes it's just you
You should check out the recording of Rhythm Song. That performance even impressed the composer.
Excellent performance
Beautiful
I think the notes on the RH at bar 67 (@2:35) should be different from bar 65 :
D E F# G#=>B C# D G#
Did anyone notice that she's not wearing shoes? LOL
idk about u but i play better without shoes on, maybe she's the same
Playing shoeless is the best tbh. Literally all percussion to tbh. Except maybe drumset
@@captainkiwi77 tbh I think drum set shoeless is so much more comfortable
it’s so her feet don’t make sound when she moves around
some folks do it to better feel the vibrations of the marimba through the floor too
Sweet! ( bow )
Okay 6 octaves. Like why
The solo isn’t 6 octaves but it’s cool that the marimba is
Probably just what they had in the studio at the time
Whats the intro music?
It's the prelude from Bach's Cello Suite No.5 in C minor
does anyone have this piece they can send me?
No. Be a good human being and buy the piece, so the composer can be paid and make a living.
@@SG-qx1fg not that simple, I am a highschool student with no job, money, or parents who will pay for anything.
Also it's illegal to for someone to just give the peice
This felt too forced for my taste
