I’ve tried animating myself, and I have to say, for something that was done in 2 days, your short was seriously good. Keep in mind- Pixar and Disney take almost a year to make their movies
This video’s title should be every word that describes dedication and work ethic You managed to animate and render a whole 3d, edit it and add audio, and produce a decent result with it in under 48 hours, and then go behind that and go through the entire process again (minus the 3d part) to post a great TH-cam video. And to put the absolute burnout cherry on top, spent $272. I wish I could do more, but I applaud you sir. You are a hard working man
8 years later: "Erasing My Awful Animated Movie From The History of the Internet" EDIT: people, this comment is a joke. It is a reference to Austin's another video. I *do not* find his animation awful; quite the opposite in fact
about 10 years ago i was attending a 3D modelling & animation school. I was there for about 2 years (before dropping out), and in all that time i made 2 short 30 second clips. The school held several workshops that mostly did not amount to anything, they really could have used this for inspiration. This just goes to show how much of a timewaste some schools can be.
So, tell me the difference between that and: ordering someone else to design a map ordering someone else to design some objects Having a full team of people to make you rigged characters and animations Having a ton of animators working on every single frame of a movie. render. why would he, on his own. not use "assets" which to him is basically getting something from another teammember. He still made his point. that animating is within everyone's reach.
No, I used public assets that were made by either a corporation that uses models and very little variation, or underpays their staff to work 50 cents an hour. Each rig plus animation would have taken over 36 hours! THAT IS 50 cents an hour while talking about SIMPLE HUMANOID RIGGS.
@@sparkylongtail309 You don't seem to understand how stock assets work. Many people, sometimes thousands, buy the same asset. It might not seem like much when you can buy a character for $5, but when you sell 1,000 of them that character has earned $5,000. $5,000 / 36 hours is $138/Hr... Not too shabby. Even if it sells half that number, it's still over $70 per labor hour. You seriously don't think people are spending a week creating a model just to sell it for a one time fee of $5-$20 do you? That's simply not how it works.
As someone who aspires to make animated shorts, only vaguely knowing how incredibly time-consuming it is, every bit of information I get about what is feasible to achieve in a certain timeframe is extremely valuable, so thank you. I hope to tell as many good stories as I can with the tools and the time I have.
If you're looking to learn about animation please go anywhere but here. This is no place to learn. If 3D is your game check out Blender. It's 100% free and there are thousands of tutorials on TH-cam. I recommend starting with Blender Guru to learn modeling.
As someone who is an animator and creates contests where people make animations on a short time frame, seeing your last hours full of stress and cutting a lot of content out, I can say that this was totally relatable with what we experience on animation college and on the contests hahah. All I can say to the fellow animator aspirants over here, is that at least it gets easier over time. You start to get a better idea about what REALLY can be made with the deadline you have. So, simply *make more content* so that things get easier over time
This is my daily routine at work... Making short animation from 2 or 3 lines on script in an hour (or two if I'm lucky). Interpret those 2 lines, search for suitable assets, build the set, animate, add post processing effect, render, edit sequence, then send it to editor, everything in those 1-2 hour deadline. The stress is real..!

took more than 3 months each and he had more than 1 person. Not trying to downplay, i play warhammer 40k tabletop and paint the mini's, i'm a MASSIVE fan and that guys animations are on par and better in some parts that Games Workshop's animations. But he spent a LOOONG time on those, and had a *bit* of help. Again, not trying to downplay. The work put into those animations are why I like Warhammer 40k (I mean hell, my profile pic is an Adeptus Mechanicus lol), are why I'm so into the warhammer fanbase. A lot of underrated hard-working talented people making great content for a niche piece of content they love with all their hearts.
Austin: "can we make and animated movie in 48 hours" Austin: buys meshes and materials. Me: "Okay I understand that its not the focus of the video" Also Austin: Proceeds to buy animation packs.
Chevifier With a limited allocation of resources(time and money), you have to make some cuts. This is an extreme case where there is literally only two days to make a complete animation. Many things are reused and slightly modified in polish to fool you as to look unique. You may have noticed many sound effects even in Hollywood movies are using same assets.
Seeing the title as an artist: 🤨um??? Seeing all the money he’s spending: 😔ok yea Edit: guys i didnt intend for this to be some sort of commentary about how many assets you should buy 😰 i just thought it was funny when he discovered how expensive everything was
Ikr, like I thought he was gonna make everything from scratch. Like just prepping assets to be for animation requires a ton of time. If he takes characters with premade rigs and background assets ofc you can produce something in 48 hours. Idk maybe I'm just salty as a 3d modeller haha
Yeah it would've been nice if he gave himself 1 or 2 weeks. Maybe not enough time to still make everything himself (I've no experience with this type of stuff) but it would've been neat to see every step of animating a film from scratch. Though I'm sure he chose 48 for some other personal reasons as well.
He just said he’d make a movie in 48 hours. He never said he was going to start from scratch. You don’t have to be an artist or character creator in order to animate. Those are different jobs. He did what he said he’d do. If you think it’s clickbait, maybe you shouldn’t have projected expectations as if he ever said he’d do anything beyond what he actually said he would. That’s on you.
THEY WERE CHEEP THOUGH! XD Each rigg would have taken the person at least 36 hours meaning he was buying assets created by a person getting paid less than 50 cents and hour on some of them!

You managed to animate and render a whole 3d, edit it and add audio, and produce a decent result with it in under 48 hours, and then go behind that and go through the entire process again (minus the 3d part) to post a great TH-cam video. "I made an animation movie under 48 hours." "What's your superpower?" "I'm rich."
It was not about flexing but proving a point.

With a limited allocation of resources(time and money), you have to make some cuts. This is an extreme case where there is literally only two days to make a complete animation. Many things are reused and slightly modified in polish to fool you as to look unique. You may have noticed many sound effects even in Hollywood movies are using same assets.

Should he have made his own 3d animating program too? And built his own computer from metals he mined? All in 48 hours?
THEY WERE CHEEP THOUGH! XD
Each rigg would have taken the person at least 36 hours meaning he was buying assets created by a person getting paid less than 50 cents and hour on some of them!
