Brilliant stuff. Ive only heard Rebroff recently, and I love it. What i like the most is that he plays around with the original and puts in some falsetto, and then does the extra octave on the scale, just to say "I can do it" :)

Ivan Rebroff performed in GRIEGHALLEN, Bergen , Norway sometime around 1988-89. Fantastic voice and artist! Funny too! He finished by saying to the audience: Thank you Bergen! But, now, I need my beaauty sleep.........I was there!! Anyone else ???

One of my two all-time favourite Basses! The other is the incomparable Kurt Moll. Very different music, but both with RIDICULOUSLY amazing voices! They are the two singers I have tried to emulate in my own, very amateurish kind of way! haha

my father got me listening to ivan back in the late 70's,along with shalypin?fritz wunderlich,caruso,lanza,bjorling etc,got funny looks at school for a 10 year old,but its always made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.lol

IMO he is simply a bass with an extended range. Basso profundo refers to those who can go below C1 and are characterized by a darker sound. Think of JD Sumner and the basses from gospel quartets. Rebroff's sound is much brighter when he is in the mid to upper part of his natural voice. Still he decends to the sub bass range very effectively. Anyway that's my take on it. I do enjoy listening to him.

This video ends up very late in searches for Ivan Rebroff. Too bad, since it's one of his most ipmressive performances. I cannot belive he just passed away.

Pitch wobbles a bit around his lowest notes, but that's fine. What a voice. Fuck. So unfair.
@OliverKahnNr1 I think the problem here is that some start counting octaves at 1, others at 0. A common problem in communicating music internationally, as well as in programming.
There is a difference between Scientific Pitch notation and the typical MIDI pitch notation. The middle C (appr. 260 Hz), below the 440 Hz A, is labeled as C4 in Scientific Pitch, but as C3 in midi notation. Going to a lower pitch than 4 octaves below that, requires the use of a negative sign before the note.

The high notes are falsetos of course, but not too high, if you are looking for high and good masculine voice search for Steve Perry, Bob Kimball, there others too. If you looking for high falsetos search for Frankie Valli (Four Seasons), BeeGees and Vitas, the blblblbl, extraterrestrian style singer.
Hm, i guess you can't hear that hes slurring (is that the right word? had to look it up: when you drink you can't talk normally anymore, thats what i mean) as you don't speak German.
The song is about sitting in a cellar, most likely one used to store alcohol ;)
Rebroff sings in German, but its very hard to understand what he sings, but the important thing is:
He pretends to get more and more drunk during the song. So girlsryummy is right, its a drunk-hiccup (but used as a range-switch too ;))

No,he had not!His voice was a deeper,small baritone voice without great volume and power of a range of 2 1/2 octaves.The high notes are FALSETTO.ALL deeper voices have this!He had no chance on an operastage.(Frankfurt,Munich-Gärtnerplatztheater).After the opening of UdSSR under Chruschtschow he made for the Germans the Russian-Singer.He had success with it and they accepted this,thinking he is Russian.He had bad Russian pronounciation.Eugenia Zareska personally told me this decades ago.
