The girls are the real deal, brilliant vocally and instrumentally. The key is the sheer unbridled enjoyment they get from the music and playing together, whether it is with the boys on drums and bass, just by themselves or with the increasing number of artists they have played with (i.e. Elvis Costello, Joe Bonamassa, Keith Urban) and whether it is in front of an audience, in the studio or simply recording in a hotel room. One thing is for sure, the Blues couldn't be in better hands.
@@kellywalker8407 Subtle also, check out their version of "Sound of Silence", just the two of them in a hotel room close up to the camera. The level of harmony only siblings can produce. Also, if you haven't already done so, check out their early career with their sister in The Lovell Sisters to see their evolution from blue grass before they discovered the blues.
They are like the female Black Keys. I don’t know which sister is more badass, they both are 100% awesome. That slide guitar, I don’t think people realize how good she is with it.
Larkin Poe is my absolute favorite group.....I am a child of the 70s listening to the Allman Brothers and the Doobie Brothers, etc.....The Poe just does it for me......and it doesn't hurt that they are from the south like me.......
I found the beginning of the Larkin Poe TH-cam rabbit hole yesterday....it’s been a couple days of nonstop listening and watching their videos. Everything they do is full of soul and grit. They are perfect! Great reaction! Keep it coming!
I just discover your chain, and it is very great to see your analysis. I love Larkin Poe for over a year now, you said it right : they are real Badass, real Blues ! Thanks to you, I discover a new level of earing their songs !!! Thank you so much for that !
I've seen these ladies three times, the first in a club with about 50 people. Absolutely brilliant live. One of the many things I use to describe them is they do simple better than anyone. It's never fancy, just exactly what's needed, nothing more.
I've loved and appreciated Rebecca and Megan for the last ten years. They really are the real deal. As a non musician I'd like to thank you for breaking the song down for me. I knew what I felt and you only re enforced that feeling.
Dude..... you made me laugh out loud. Reminds me of myself when I first saw them years ago doing a Hall and Oats cover of Rich Girl while in a bathroom and sounding amazing! Their harmony, soulfulness..... the just plain badassness has only gotten better.
This group is outstanding. Saw them 6 years ago when they were touring with Bob Seger on his farewell tour. Was very impressed by them and thrilled to see the success they're having.
It it took me a while … but I am there now. Feel just as you did one seeing them for the first time. The confidence, the skill, the hard work they do. The smiles are infectious. You cannot help but love them.
I love Megan and Rebecca! Making music with your sister is such a blast! I dig it! Mad as a hatter is one of my favorite songs of them...check the live version at the Convent Club Chapel, amazing vocals and emotion
I discovered Larkin Poe a few weeks ago and can't stop listening to them! Great musiciants and songwriters both sisters! I love the simplicity of their songs ending up in a complex arrangement. simply great - hope to see them soon here in Germany!
Just found your channel, blown away by the reaction videos. Amazing! Maybe I am biased because we have eerily similar taste in music apparently. The fact that you also remember the Lovell Sisters, sealed the deal. The two albums all the sisters made are real gems! Thanks for all this amazing context
Just saw Larkin Poe at Byron Bay Bluesfest here on the east coast of Australia, on Easter weekend. Blew me away. The vocals. The grooves. The guitars. The sheer badassery. Great performers too. I teach guitar, so I immediately sent links to all my female students, especially the teenagers. Figured they needed to see two young women musicians kickin’ ass and takin’ names.
'Unapologetically Badass' hits the nail on the head, great description. They both have so much spirit and heart in the music, but in very different ways, so it gives a perfect complement. Also one of the few bands where I really really like when they do cover versions - because they utterly make them their own while still holding to the original. Again, unapologetically badass.
I was hooked after the first song. Went through most of their catalog and couldn’t find even one stinker. Those family harmonies are the best too. Just excellent musicians. Great reaction.
Great video Michael !! Boys.. WE ARE SCREWED!! the ladies are taking over! i had tickets for Larkin Poe last february in Madrid.. it shifted til spring!! I´m not claiming my refund ....I´ll just buy the tickets again... happy to assist the music cause & hopefully help keep the clubs open here !!! "Always tip your waitresses ... they got drink problems of their own¨ D.L.R
Saw them at a packed Rickshaw Club in SF. Burned it down. Nothing like their charming TH-cam duets. They knew they were playing to Dead Heads, and they jammed.
Rebecca and Megan take blues to the next level. I've been waiting for them since the mid-seventies! I cannot believe Rebecca's voice, and Megan compliments it so well. Check out Ain't gonna cry. There are so many great tunes that they do!
Nice job, brother! Never heard of this band before. I was about to say exactly that... the guitars and vocals bring the swing but the drums and bass are bringing the filth! Gotta say again that the livestream with Marty last night was great! I’m loving that show and can’t wait to see who’s next. I’m excited for you to dig into to some Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...it’s some genre bending stuff - “blu-bop”, bluegrass, jazz, funk, space jam, tastiness! It will grow on you.
Saw ´em two times live. Am a real fan of the sisters!! But I always felt that the rythm section is so much underrated!! Thank you for puttin your focus on that too!!!
Their latest album, Self Made Man (which is also the title track), also went to number 1 right away on the Blues chart. Their fancy stuff is found in the rhythms and those harmony fills. It’s important to remember that they were introduced to violin at the age of 3 (Rebecca) and 5 (Megan). They literally have been musicians their entire lives.
Dig deeper in their catalog. And see them live. Megan literally "sings" with her Rick B3. Rebecca's voice is something special. You would love the vocals and slide work in "Wanted Woman/ACDC"
And they just won the Grammy for best contemporary blues album, Blood Harmony. Venom and Faith won some awards as well. If you haven't seen them live yet, make a point of it.
Love those girls! I've seen them twice, in small venues, and they tear the house down! You nailed it on the 4 parts, Megan is harmony vocals and her slide is harmony strings for Rebecca's singing/playing. They are serious, reverent, students of music and have great appreciation for the roots! Those living room sessions you mentioned, where they usually do covers, are so much fun! Check out their cover of "Helplessly Hoping" for some vocal harmonies that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up! Here's a fun romp of the classic tune, "Ophelia" by The Band! th-cam.com/video/LopWl5GxRCs/w-d-xo.html
Hey Michael....so glad you picked these gals to put up. They are the bomb. The songs do sound simple, but they are so incredibly "in-tune" with each other. Couldn't agree more with how the rhythm section playing less is more......they full complement the girls in every way - unobtrusive, yet so vital in driving the songs.
FRI AUG 28, 2020 - 7:00 PM Larkin Poe Royale, Boston MA I'm seeing them in Philadelphia on the 27th! Mad as a Hatter is my favorite track of Larkin Poe.
Larkin Poe helped me through the government lockdowns, they had almost daily clips of so many covers and originals; they put their spin and had a fun time doing it. It lifted me musically, emotionally into a happy place. Please support them by purchasing merch/ albumns....
Yo! Baltimore representative, here. I feel that Poe connection too. Who’s your favorite local acts though? What bands have you played with? I love me some Chris Jacobs and The Psycho Killers. I see the PRS guitar, I believe Paul is still around Annapolis. Holla back
I love all of these. I just discovered you about a week ago and totally went down a video rabbit hole. Your influences and teenage music experience sounds so much like my own. I wonder if you would consider doing a Soul Asylum Somebody to Shove video. The opening riff is just so iconic!
The older sister, Jessica, left the "Lovell Sisters" band and went off to university, I think, and to live a normal life. The two younger sisters reformed as Larkin Poe. Jerry Douglas released "Southern Filibuster: A Tribute to Tut Taylor" in 2010. It was a collaborative album featuring several dobro and lap steel players. Megan Lovell played the lead on track 13, Reso Fandango. Jerry's album notes stated that she was a young girl. She was completely rehearsed and prepared to record the track. She laid it down in one take. If Jerry Douglas thinks that you're good, that's good enough for me.
Now this is weird, last video I watched I damn near suggested that you check out these two....These two are lil bad asses they are great. SUper simple stuff it would seem but once you start listening and looking its so well put together and layered so well. Love these two. And all their stuff is like this just outstanding every song.
Rebecca and Meghan know that great music is not about how many notes you can fit in there, it's about what notes you play, when you play them, and when the best thing to play is nothing at all. Very rare. And very precious.
... Yeowp, gotta jumpin heyer-!!! Wottee sedn more, juss hurt me, hert me, heart me, badlee now, bay-bee. First saw and heard them telephone interviewing convo with Justin Heyward, aend, from that, checked out some of their gigs, and wow, talk about a groove...
Amazing what awesome stuff can be created when a music executive isn't in charge...or when the artists, themselves, are in total control with no contracted corporate writers repackaging all the same stuff we've been hearing every day for a decade.
"you know what the hardest thing to do in music probably is?..........To not play anything" You sir have said it all right there............its the silence between the notes.
I saw them as Lovell Sisters back in 2006 at a local bluegrass festival in Naperville IL, opening for greats like Dailey&Vincent and Michael Cleveland. It's easy to say now, but I had that feeling like I would see these kids on a big stage someday. Michael, when you spoke about separation, stacking parts, keeping the groove, I'm thinking .. "of course, this is fundamental to bluegrass", which is where they started. I'd love to see Rebecca shred on the mandolin again. Hanging out with the players on the side, I found Jesse Brock and Rebecca trading licks. Me: "The teacher and the student?" Jesse: "Nope... she's teaching me a few new tricks!!"
Larkin Poe are one of a few independent artists I follow closely for their great blues music and artistry. They are musician’s musicians.
Well said, blues brother! 👍👍👍
Not just the blues bro......
Forget the genre....
These gals.......
Straight up badass music.

Audiophile Man beat me to it John. Well said, both of you. Wow... So great,L.P.
Rebecca has one of the best voices out there right now. Power and grace.
keeps getting betters as well.
The best.
They are like the female Black Keys. I don’t know which sister is more badass, they both are 100% awesome. That slide guitar, I don’t think people realize how good she is with it.
I love your analysis, it vindicates my obsession. It's good to hear that I am not alone, in my awe of their greatness.
Larkin Poe is my absolute favorite group.....I am a child of the 70s listening to the Allman Brothers and the Doobie Brothers, etc.....The Poe just does it for me......and it doesn't hurt that they are from the south like me.......

I saw these amazing ladies last year at Byron Bays Blues fest, Australia and I was blown away
I just discover your chain, and it is very great to see your analysis. I love Larkin Poe for over a year now, you said it right : they are real Badass, real Blues !
Thanks to you, I discover a new level of earing their songs !!! Thank you so much for that !
I'm so happy you chose this feature they are very wonderful

Love the joy you take in this, man.
I've been playing music for decades and watching you hash out your absolute love of music is inspiring. Great stuff!
I been watching these girls for years. They are truly bad ass. Love me some Larkin Poe.
Dude..... you made me laugh out loud. Reminds me of myself when I first saw them years ago doing a Hall and Oats cover of Rich Girl while in a bathroom and sounding amazing! Their harmony, soulfulness..... the just plain badassness has only gotten better.

Love how this channel switches me on to new stuff. Great!
It it took me a while … but I am there now. Feel just as you did one seeing them for the first time. The confidence, the skill, the hard work they do. The smiles are infectious. You cannot help but love them.
That vocal harmony sounds SOOO good.
This is perfection! One of my favourite TH-camrs covering one of my favourite acts. Great work Michael - thank you.
Love them soo much!! Thanks Michael
Thanks for making me aware of them. I am amazed.
I could not agree more with you. In everything you say. I had the pleasure of hearing them live in Vienna. I love them, too.
I love Megan and Rebecca! Making music with your sister is such a blast! I dig it! Mad as a hatter is one of my favorite songs of them...check the live version at the Convent Club Chapel, amazing vocals and emotion
Nice! I have been obsessed with these two for a couple of years, and they get better and better.
These young ladies are the best thing to happen to blues rock in years. Big fan
❤ thank you ,Sir
Just to watch you react to the different music is just priceless!
if you have a chance, DO see Larkin Poe play. Future of blues, no kidding
Please do more reactions of them I really enjoyed this
Thanks for this amazing breakdown - I'd never noticed the drum work in the quasi-acappella part. Sick stuff!!!
I discovered Larkin Poe a few weeks ago and can't stop listening to them! Great musiciants and songwriters both sisters! I love the simplicity of their songs ending up in a complex arrangement. simply great - hope to see them soon here in Germany!
The Main Squeeze - Have A Cigar (Floyd Cover). Maybe the single best guitar solo I’ve ever seen. Super groovy.
Couldn’t agree more! I try to turn everyone on to them.
Just checked it out... you, sir, just made my Friday night! Epic! Then I clicked their cover of No Quarter and oh my word!!!
Just found your channel, blown away by the reaction videos. Amazing! Maybe I am biased because we have eerily similar taste in music apparently. The fact that you also remember the Lovell Sisters, sealed the deal. The two albums all the sisters made are real gems! Thanks for all this amazing context
I have been following Larkin Poe for a few years now, they are unreal
Good morning, great live chat with Marty! They wrote a song for their grandfather called "Mad as a Hatter" They can play! Great choice thank you sir.

They are amazing. Love Larkin poe
Saw them at a packed Rickshaw Club in SF. Burned it down. Nothing like their charming TH-cam duets. They knew they were playing to Dead Heads, and they jammed.
The Blues Torch has clearly been passed to these two young ladies. Always in awe of their performances.
Vocalist/guitarist has phenomenal stage presence.
Love this. Never appreciated music more than when watching some of these insights. Thank you, Michael Palmisaro ✊
More LP please
It's nice to get a technical explanation for why these ladies are so bad ass.
Been listening to them for a couple years, LOVE them! FYI they also do some riff tutorials on youtube!
I LOVE Larkin Poe! This is not my favorite song, but they're all GREAT!
I have just recently discovered Larkin Poe, now I've herd almost everything they've done.
Dude...such a great "true" review ...these GIRLS rock..... it is simple but amazing al at Once!
Thank you for your wonderful video on my seventh birthday with your excellent explanations of Larkin Poe's secrets

Well I never thought I’d find my old guitar teacher on TH-cam but here we are
You're finding some of my favorite s all at once.. idk how but I don't mind it
Ooh they had me on the first line, yeah!
Saw ´em two times live. Am a real fan of the sisters!! But I always felt that the rythm section is so much underrated!! Thank you for puttin your focus on that too!!!

Larkin Poe are great, have you saw their 'War pigs' cover on their tip of the hat series? It's excellent, right up your street being a Sabbath fan
Dig deeper in their catalog. And see them live. Megan literally "sings" with her Rick B3. Rebecca's voice is something special. You would love the vocals and slide work in "Wanted Woman/ACDC"
Seeing them play in July! Can't wait!

Holy craaaaaap (Midwest accent) those two are amazing
They did a killer song "Hey Sinner" at Norms rare guitars a couple years ago
I want to thank playin for change. Cus that is what introduced me to one of my favourites
LARKIN POE!!!!!
Megan is the tastiest slide player working.
I love all of these. I just discovered you about a week ago and totally went down a video rabbit hole. Your influences and teenage music experience sounds so much like my own. I wonder if you would consider doing a Soul Asylum Somebody to Shove video. The opening riff is just so iconic!
Rebecca is married to Tyler Bryant . If you've never heard him check him out. Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown. The kid rips

You need to watch Rory Gallagher live at RST studios, Dublin. Older video but Rory is a monster. (If you haven't seen it.)
Vocals. You got that right, brother!

I know this is a guitar channel but shoutout to anyone who can get through that tongue twisting title while playing guitar
Hey Michael! Nice video! You should check the German guitar player Henrik freischlader, "Bussiness straight"! Greetings from Brazil!
Really digging your channel man...
Drop D tuning they were classically trained starting at 3 and 4 yrs old. There's another sister Jessica. Used to be the lovell sisters.
I don’t care who you are> that’s REAL stuff!!!!!!!
Amazing what awesome stuff can be created when a music executive isn't in charge...or when the artists, themselves, are in total control with no contracted corporate writers repackaging all the same stuff we've been hearing every day for a decade.
