Couple of things to clear up: 1. Yes I know all phones are not on max brightness. I talk about this in the video, and it's to compensate for the varying brightness of the screens - I have set them all to an EQUAL brightness level, not each phone's MAXIMUM brightness. 2. No the iPhones are not screen-recording. That red thing surrounding the timer is Auto-Shazam, which I turned on for all phones. 3. The iPhone XR is not performing close to what Apple (and some other tests) claim, and my suspicion is, as I mention in the video, that these test were performed with all phones at max brightness, whereas, because the XR's screen is not as bright / viewing angles not as good, in this video I have had to set it's brightness percentage higher to compensate - In my opinion this is the fairest way to do it. The result we got here agrees with some other XR battery comparisons on TH-cam. 4. Some of you are commenting that in past battery tests, the iPhone XS Max has beaten the Note 9 - this is because in those tests, the Note 9 was set at QHD+ resolution, but in this one, at FHD+.

So the conclusion is that OnePlus optimisations have improved significantly, the iPhone X’s Max did amazing imo, the best ( Mate 20pro has 7nm chip with a 1000mah battery increase compared to Apple and Apple did not come far behind) The XR performed terrible, the worst out of the rest. Huawei and Samsung has some battery optimisations that they need to improve on because 1440p on Mate 20pro and Note 9 will drain the battery and if you’re a person like me, I always like to get the most out of my phone, setting it to 1080p is like putting it on power saving mode, if you wanna leave it at 1080p forever you might as well buy the 6T which max out at 1080p and has significantly better software optimisations

The signal of iPhone xs is terrible, and iPhone would like to put a big battery into the iPhone too, but they can't because Apple is not able to make baseband, wifi and gps into socs, like Huawei and Qualcomm, therefore A12 has maybe more performance because in the soc Apple does not to have sacrifice the units for other functions, but apple need more space for baseband, wifi and gps, this is why they use smaller battery, and intel baseband has never been good...
I’d say it’s because it hasn’t actually been optimised yet- im guessing developers haven’t adjusted their settings for the XR when compared to the XS (since it’s the flagship). I’ll expect apple to optimise its battery so maybe in a few updates it’ll be on par or even better than the XS
Best battery life test, from the once I saw from you till now. I know it takes a lot of time to record this but it is worth it, you get a way better feeling about the actual battery life when you use it personally. And nice detail setting all screens to equal brightness.
The Xr battery life claims are a scam. Battery life on the Xr is good as long has you don't put the A12 under load.......if you actually use the A12 chip, even not under super heavy load, the battery melts.
I agree. and I think the display plays a big part in power management. Maybe if you put the Xs/Xs Max under load, the battery's more efficient on OLED than the LCD, depending on what color in the app you're in.
@@engineergingineer9836 Still we expected a low resolution LCD to not consume more than a much higher resolution OLED. The problem can also be the brightness, maybe at mower brightness the Xr has better battery life.......it's not my field but I won't be surprised if the power consumption function of brightness is not linear.
@@mob_abominator1868 The huawei phone battery life always doesn't perform the best for the new phone, because the npu of emui have to learning the habit of the user. The battery performance will improve after being used for several days.

As an iPhone user I can really see battery drains problem with the iPhone XR, that sometimes happened to another iPhones in last updates, Apple needs to fix this problem, that happened too to the iPhone X but in iOS 12 the problem was fixed
Yh like it saw going down a mountain...we’ll see if it’s a software problem because the a12 chip is more power efficient than the a11 and the iPhone 8 has awesome battery life Even more than the 7 plus which has a smaller battery
Akish Rennie it also has the 2nd largest battery of any iPhone and a lesser resolution display than the 8 plus. The 8 plus was renowned for its awesome battery, so maybe his phone was indexing, software issue, or the display thing is true. But that certainly shouldn’t be the acceptable battery behavior for the Xr as apple’s claims for it were much higher. Their claims for the Xs Max are pretty spot on.
I have a $140 phone (Billion capture plus) and i play *pubg* for 4-5 hours a day and use TH-cam, Instagram, Netflix etc, and I still get well over 6 1/2 hours of battery life..... 5 hours is very bad for a $800 iPhone XR. . It's a shit..
Anesu C why wouldn't it be optimized for the phone. Both the XS MAX and XR both use the same A12 chip. So now what you have going on is that XR is working harder to keep up with the color and resolution that the XS Max can produce. because it doesn't use the OLED. The LCD screen requires a little more power.

Saitama Well, this time Apple was pushing more pixels with a smaller battery, but I’m sure the Samsung minions won’t cry about it. They still barely won...
I don’t think this test is fair for the iPhone Xr. You can’t ask an lcd display to perform as good (bright) as an oled display. If you set the brightness of the iPhone Xr to 100% it will drain battery in no time. There have been studies that point that if you set the brightness above 80%, the battery usage grows exponentially having little real impact on the brightness perceived. This test should have been done bringing all the phones to 100% or keeping all the phones within the same percentage.
err no? In real world, day to day usage you dont chose the percentage, you chose the actual brightness level that pleases you. Its typically around 300-400 nits, which corresponds to 50-60% brightness on a Note 9(700 nits max) and 75-95% on a Pixel 3(430 nits max).

@@deejnutz2068 I charge my phone overnight so charging speed doesn't matter at all to me. I actually prefer Apple's slow chargers because fast chargers degrade the phone battery faster due to simple physics
@@pranav3848 actually leaving your phone charging over night will degrade the battery more than a fast charge to 80%.
I never charge my phone to 100%. Since a 60% charge gives me all I need for the day when I notice my phone is low I just plug it in for 20-30 minutes and it's good for another 20-30 hours. It's the reason that laptop batteries always degrade after 2 years. They've spent so much time on the charger.
@@deejnutz2068 I think you're still living in 2013 lol. For the past few years phones automatically stop taking in charge after 100% so the battery is unaffected. The same can't be said for all laptops, which is why they seem to wear out faster.
Here's an excerpt from an article from Time magazine "our phone stops drawing current from the charger once it reaches 100%, according to Cadex Electronics marketing communications manager John Bradshaw. Cadex manufactures battery charging equipment. 'Go ahead and charge to 100%,' Bradshaw says. 'No need to worry about overcharging as modern devices will terminate the charge correctly at the appropriate voltage.'"

Gabrielle Wong I hope you know that not everyone keeps there phone at full brightness whilst utilising several apps at once of which some are intense workload, yeah that’s how you get 15 hours!
They told us how. The time is based on what they determined as "typical usage" and they derived those times for both phones based on the same "typical usage". Obviously if you run the most demanding battery task (e.g. watching a movie non-stop at maximum brightness) then the phone would probably run out of battery in no time at all.
You use 1440p for VR. 1080p is totally fine. I use 720p on my S8 just to save battery (i'm not using my phone that much lately)
