  • Floating Fireplace Mantel || DIY Faux Beam Floating Mantel …In this video, I update a painted fireplace mantel with a shiny new white oak floating fireplace mantel to give the appearance of a solid slab of white oak. A floating fireplace mantel can be a focal point of a family room, so adding some wood texture to complement a painted white palette can really add some dimension to the room. My original plan was to slide the new fireplace mantel over the existing one, but that quickly fell apart when I realized it was a little lacking in support. If you are looking to update your drab fireplace mantel, then hopefully this video gives you some ideas! #fireplacemantel #kjsawdust #keithjohnsonwoodworking

At the 9:51 mark of this video I came across the “NICEST”, “CLEANEST”, and, what I would most certainly call, the absolute “FINEST” wood joint(s) that I have ever seen in all of my 43 years on this planet!!! Man… that end joint is absolutely BEA-FUCKING-UTIFUL!!! Kudos to you my friend… KUDOS on a job that was very, very “well done”!!! You sir are a MASTER CRAFTSMAN and a very rare breed, at that!!! A rare breed that is, in fact, going away at an alarming rate. And what makes that rate so “alarming” is the fact that people like you (ones that possess your level of knowledge and skill and can actually work with their hands and build something) are simply just NOT being replaced by this “new generation”!!! However, on a more positive, yet sarcastic, note (which should help all of us “worried” Americans sleep better at night)… the president in, or around, 2035 and all of the ones that come after for the next 40 years or more, will be very good at playing video games and throwing hissy fits whenever they don’t get exactly what they want!!! So, just rest assured and sleep well at night, we do have that!?!?!?

@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking just watched a video your buddy Jason did with Steve Ramsey and he said film every little project bc people will always want a video. And it’s so true. My unsolicited opinion…you may think it will be to simple and maybe boring to watch, but for the bulk of people watching and subscribed to you that’s the perfect project to make us say, “I could do that one” I love seeing the advanced stuff you do, but stuff like this a guy could tackle with limited tools in a weekend. I like when you guys use the fancy tools like the one you have and are like you could use tape here, but I have it so I’m using it. Just like the domino, I want one but can’t justify it, and should probably learn the basics better anyway first. I've been wanting/planning to build the same type of mantel for my home. But my fireplace is 15 feet long from the corner of a wall. The existing mantel is concrete blocks and the fireplace is stone. A previous owner without any woodworking skills built a hideous mantel over the concrete blocks. Watching your "plan B" helped me decide that I should rip off the entire mantel including the original concrete blocks and attach the new mantel to a ledger board. Thank you! My ugly mantel has been haunting me!
