Wassup dude ! Heard you mention that you grew up near where download festival is held… I’m a Leicester lad myself and I’ve got tickets to see Slipknot at Birmingham around this time next year… would be cool to have a meet and greet as I feel you would weirdly be a yin to my yang (no homo)…. You grew up in the world of rap… I grew up in the world of metal and it would be cool to see what recommendations you have for me exploring the rap world…. And in exchange I shall give you a TON of recommendations… watches all your metal vids…you got good taste ! Love laugh love brev… peace ✌🏻

That's the best thing about the rock metal community is that thebsocially awkward are immediately welcomed and accepted. You said once that you always used to give the goth kids weird looks cause they were jumping around acting a fool, but now you get it. Rock is the place where outcasts and the unaccepted go to BE accepted. ❤❤ SOOO glad you've found us and that we've found you.

Joey was irreplaceable. As was Paul...two legends gone far too soon. Rest in peace, #1 & #2 - the maggots miss you.❤ It took me a little while to warm up to Jay, but I came to love him as well...but now that he's out, I'm hoping the new drummer will live up to the shoes he has to fill...because they are giant shoes, and now there's two pairs needing to be filled instead of just Joey's...

Community is one of the most common themes in Alternative music. Many of us were the "weirdo's" at school, who felt like they didn't fit or got bullied for being different. Finding the larger community for the first time is a revelation and for most happens at the festivals. It's why from the outside we draw ranks and look scary, when it's actually one of the most chill and accepting groups around, we're just used to being protective. It's also why a lot of the music is about venting pure emotion, better to get it out to the music as sadly many of our members have seen what it looks like when it's directed at people instead. It's so cool to be able to feel like I'm finding it all again the first time, through your eyes. Looks like you've been adopted into the family, welcome the the freakshow!

    • @lukepercival3427
      @lukepercival3427 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Also the "ant colony" that you saw is a circle pit. You'll probably see a fair few if you cover more live gigs, along with endless crowd-surfing, standard pits and walls of death. Alternative dance can get a little bit fighty, there are rules to it though that are taught quickly and efficiently when needed.

I was there for this show. Been going to DL almost every year since 2005. I've missed maybe 2 in that time. I would say there were probably 70-80K people there for this show. The capacity now is up to about 120K.
I took my best mate in 2005. It was my first full weekend festival, his first festival, and his first proper metal gig. We've been back regularly ever since.
And behind all that chaos you see in the audience there are thousands of people sitting on the hills watching from their camping chairs. Don't feel like you'd need to be in that mess to be there for a show. It's not like that at all.
I've never been into the big crowds and moshing, and I have a heart condition and an anxiety disorder, so me and my sis stay back for a good view, near a bar :)
If you do go just know there are a lot of people who'll gladly invite you into their group. We wouldn't hesitate to invite you to come and camp with us for a DL weekend.
Next year might be a good time to go because the line up isn't that great, it will be quieter, but you'll still have all the die-hard DL fans there to make it a good experience without it being too overwhelming.
If I see you there I'll say hi, as I'm sure plenty of others will! :)

It is an unwritten law in the metal community to always take care of those around u, & to protect eachother. Girls, teens, even the disabled r always safe because those around u r always looking out for eachother. It's amazing to experience. Ego gets left at the door, & the crowd self-polices like no other. 🤘🤣👌

What you saw was a circle out. There are many types. Circle pits can be just running as a group, or like a push pit. There are even things called “Wall of death” where the crowd will split in half and on the vocalists say so run at each other like a literal line of battle. There are amazing live songs like Lamb of God at download playing Walk With me in Hell that have MASSIVE pits and the music is so hype with energy

Im going to be at the O2 in December next year 🖤 I also saw Corey Taylor at his solo gig in November and he was incredible.
I’m so glad you did this reaction, and that you loved it, it is by far one of my favourite performances to watch on TH-cam. I can’t believe you’re actually going to a slipknot gig, welcome to the metal family 🖤
    Merry Christmas!!
(Also, check out his live performance of ‘snuff’)

You are now one of us and part of a huge family of likeminded people. We were the weirdos at school. Never the popular ones but I preferred that myself. The most interesting people are never with the in crowd. This is my 25th year as a maggot and my daughter was with me seeing the Knot for her first concert and loved it and she's on the autism spectrum and was amazed at how accepted she felt at the show. I joked that it was all downhill after seeing Slipknot and she still says i was right and that she still hasnt seen better. You are one of us now. Another maggot and you are more than welcome. Maggots❤

I love how you get emotional at the end. I always get so emotional at the end of every live concert i go to. Tears in my eyes and everything. I guess it's to do with the adrenaline rush being over? Carry on with your dive into the live concerts and maybe one day go to a live show and enjoy that feeling first hand. You won't regret it! Oh and also please check out "From Can To Can't" by Corey and Dave grohl. One of Coreys finest and most emotional singing ever in my opinion!

Welcome to the maggots my dude. I love seeing people realise what’s happening with Joey: I witnessed it in 2001 in Glasgow and it was stunning. Slipknot don’t need to do these tricks but they do it anyway, because they are that fucking good. Joey was a king among drummers and much missed.

It’s never too late to join the metal community, one of the safest, most welcoming, loving and supportive families I’ve ever been a part of. I wasn’t there for this but saw them a few years later at download in 2013 - that whole weekend just felt like coming home.

Find yourself some metal friends and then attend a small concert first. Learn how to survive a moshpit. Find out if you can deal with touching shirtless sweaty people. And if you are ok with all of that… have fun at the next best slipknot concert. But make sure you know what you are getting into, how you are getting out again emotionally AND (most important) do it soon (even Corey is talking about not wanting to be in slipknot forever)

Always fun seeing people react to this (and Slipknot live) for the first time!
    1) I was indeed one of those bouncing pixels somewhere in that mass of people on stage left. Jump the fk up is actually quite easy as you really get lifted by the crowd, and it's p. hard to go out of sync with the bouncing
    2) relatedly, this was the Sunday night and rolling out of the campsite (and home) was certainly an experience
    3) as i'm sure you've been told, that thing the crowd is doing is moshing - specifically a circle pit (for obvious reasons). Sometimes you just gotta let lose and do circuits 🤷‍♀️
    4) yes to Download this year (and most years) - it's one of my favourite places to be, and also yes to seeing Slipknot at the O2 this December.
    5) i'm also all jetlagged having today flown back from Sonic Temple festival in the US, where Slipknot were the Sunday headliner, and my voice is g o n e. There's something very cathartic about bouncing in a crowd where you're all screaming the same lyrics back at the band (and said band is just feeding off the energy and getting progressively more hyped) 🤘

    Just go!!

Around 3:00 What the crowd is doing there is called a Circle Pit. They're basically all running in a big circle, pushing each other into the middle and forwards. It's a big fun actually, even if it looks kinda dangerous. But as soon as someon falls, everybody around them would like stop and help them up, so they don't get hurt

This song and live really shifted something in me when i first saw it. This band has been such a big part of me growing up and seeing someone without prior experience to the culture and community without prejudice enjoying this is so amazing. This is the first video of yours I've seen, and your reaction even made me tear up! I was introduced to Slipknot in 2004 and have loved them ever since. I too have severe social anxiety, often to the point of blacking out in crowds, so I completely understand the struggle. I'm looking forward to watching your other videos about your rock/metal discovery adventure, and I wish I could just give you a big hug. The metal community gets such a bad rap so often for being violent, hateful, deranged etc...but the reality is that we're just like everyone else. And the ironic part is that the majority of us are genuinely good, nice, friendly people. You're more likely to get hurt in the pit at a rap concert than you are at a metal concert...we do our best to take care of each other. From a long-time maggot to a new maggot (maggots are Slipknot fans...I promise I'm not name-calling lmao) - welcome to the family and we love you! ❤🤘🤘🤘
