Cecil and Faye Glickman opened the Jewish deli, and it's been in the family ever since. Cecil's is the oldest deli in Minnesota. Story: kstp.com/speci...
Love Cecils! My husband and I sat down for a sandwich and, in true German fashion, an elderly man asked to join us and sat down. He was from Brooklyn, and we had a great conversation over our food! Fond memories.
Ignore the trolls on here. Cecil was a very nice man. One of Evana's other great grandmothers (not Faye) also did volunteer at JCC, at one point too, in the time frame you played. Have a great day :)
This is one of those golden gems that the Twin Cities should be thanking their lucky stars for having in their backyard. Everything they serve tastes amazing. The variety of Rueben sandwiches that they offer may be what some think is their mainstay, but they'd be wrong because aside from the plethora of different sandwiches on the menu, there are lots of tasty options. The Matzo ball soup is perfection, as is their chicken noodle, but I am a fan of their borscht soup served either hot or cold. The Sasha sandwich is a must try and sometimes I prefer a non-grilled option like their Russian Roulette sandwich. Their potato salad and coleslaws are also perfectly rich and proper. Don't forget to stop at the deli counter on your way out to grab one of the many different loaves of bread they offer, and also grab some bakery treats to enjoy later. I love that they have retained the authenticity of the place - it's real old school, but at the same time, feels so welcoming - like home away from home.
This was such a great "feel good" story! I live in the western burbs but have been craving a really good Rueben for quite a while. Sadly, traditional delis like this one are disappearing. I will definitely be going to Cecil's in the near future. Thanks KSTP for this story.
You won't be disappointed. They got all kinds of good stuff in there. It's old school, it has personality and atmosphere, it's a real throwback in time. It's got the red and white checkered floors. Awesome place!
Crossroads Deli at Hopkins crossroad and cedar lake road is worthy, check their hours and reviews for your own confirmation if you're not up for the schlep
I love Cecil's! I especially love their onion rye bread. I like to get some tuna and egg salad and a loaf of their freshly made home made onion rye. Their chicken matzo ball soup is also awesome, and so are their Reubens.
What an original! I love how the guy at the front yells at everyone. There was a deli I would go to where they would rush everyone and express impatience. Classic
I was born in MN, not too far from this place, but I have never been there. Now I definitely have a destination in St Paul the next time I visit. Can't wait!
There are treasures such as this all around the country with a rich history. Unfortunately, many are closing due to reasons too numerous to list in a single comment. My thought is to patronize them while they are still here and help keep them going a little longer.
Evana's father David Leventhal passed last year after taking over from Cecil, his wife Sheilas father, their son Brad, Aaron & Amy were not shown but run the place along with Evana who is the granddaughter of David and Sheila. Not much reporting in this episode 🤷
They were so rude to us here one time we tried this place. My son was probably 5 years old and couldn't decide what he wanted. Lady says "maybe we would be happier at Starbucks" Never went back.
Used to love going there, but the service has just gotten horrible and the width of the bread I got with my Reuben was like a pita. I couldn't even eat it like a sandwich. It disintegrated in my hands after two bites, and had to eat it in clumps. It was gross. I supported them through the pandemic, driving over an hour out of my way every week. Same with Mancini's. Mancini's still gives 110% in their customer service and appreciates their customers whether you're a regular or not. Cecil's is another story. Too cheap to pay for decent help is one thing but slicing the bread so thin, it disintegrates in your hands into a blob of mustard, sauces and meat? Ick.

I love Cecils! Such tasty sauerkraut on their rueben sandwich. Never change! It was fun to hear a bit about the history. Thank you!
Great video!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 well deserving of FIVE STARS!!!

I grew up off Saint Paul Ave in Highland, I love Cecil's. Have been going there since 1998 when I was 13

I moved to St Paul in 1984 and that’s the first restaurant I went to. Excellent!
I sent this video right off to a friend in St. Paul who might not have eaten here! Looks delish!
Places like this are few and far between and should be treasured.
I love Cecil’s. They’re the best. All the food is stellar. And my favorite takeaway is their hamantaschen.💖🌹
It’s good

@@GreenCanvasInteriorscape I've heard about it, but have never been there.
I grew up two blocks away and still love to stop in when I'm in town.

I used to live in Highland Park. Cecils is great. I miss it here in Stillwater, Where I am now there’s nothing like it.
Awesome place and people. Always a great experience and great food! My dad brought me. ;-)
Wonderful story!
When my mom's not feeling well she craves the matzo ball soup from Cecil's
It's a gem in the area.

Great Sammy’s, I used to get the Mushroom chicken sandwich while at st Thomas.
I lived in St. Paul 40 years ago. I don't recall it. I wonder how I missed it. I was a Mickey's Diner customer. Is that still there?
The Jazz musician CECIL TAYLOR.
Nice piece, where’s in located? Another story incomplete.
Ha! We were just there last night.
Outstanding 😋

Looks amazing I'm going to try it yum!
I love good delis . Wish we had one here in the BP area

Cecil's Deli is THE BEST in the Twin Cities, hands down!
Looks delicious.
Right near our home. Great food
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Best Jewish deli in Minneapolis and you would have to go to Chicago to get as good or better.
Saint Paul
NYC..🧐
@@robertallen6710 agree NYC is the best but my comment should have said close to MPLS
@@MrPappymn Sorry should have said Twin Cities

Snow on the ground? How old is this video?
Love this place!
Where's Larry David?!
Is it located in a safe neighborhood?
Yes!
Highland Park is one of the safest places in the state.
No, very dangerous. You should stay in your little bunker where it’s safe and warm.
@@joepasquarello1273 yes at least it was when I lived there in the 90s I didn’t have any problem walking by myself at night in the neighborhood

The Russian Ruben! And crinkle fries!
👍🇺🇸❤️
❤
The over the top, tasteless cartoon effects for every single photo in the video is making me sick to my stomach. How to destroy a very cool video.
It’s Minnesota tasty not coastal tasty. It’s ok. Let’s not exaggerate
Yeah stick to Subway.
Minnesota democrats will find something offensive about this deli!😊
baloney
I don't like
Food looks super greasy.
As long as Whoopi’s golberg. Doesn’t need anything!!!!!!!🥲
Report on politician corruption. No one cares about this
I cared enough to watch it. Cecil's has been on my radar for awhile (new SP resident) and I think this weekend might be time after watching this!
Tim Walz would be on the list
Speak for yourself.
Cecil's is nasty. Terrible food. No longer authentic.
It's called liberalism
