  • In this video, I explain why and how I did the snow clearing in our last video too many questions to answer outright, so I figured this video would take care of it all. If you get a chance, check out our website at specialtyrepairs.com and thanks for watching.

    Here in Cape Breton, we had 6-ft of snow in 4 days. My B2650 had a workout with our 700m laneway which has 12-deg slope in one spot. I use chains on all tires. Mind you when I tried doing more than I should, went through the shear pins. Slow but sure wins the day!!!

    • @7863348
      @7863348  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You folks have had some rough weather over there. What you see us doing is very rare here. I’ve seen snow drifts before but never like this. Never seen them like this. Chains are great but they tear up the pavement so I avoid them. My next move will be to sipe the tires.

    Now I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. The last few winters we haven’t had hardly and snow. I have a small Toro lower that I didn’t use once last year. This winter I used it for a six inch light snow. I would love to climb on that tractor of yours for a day. Keep up the good work. I love your videos.

    Thank you… I expect that many of your subscribers are not resident in Newfoundland & Labrador. The Avalon Peninsula snow falls come in many different forms. When wet heavy snow is involved, there is a tendency for snow thrower auger blades to have so much snow sticking to them that the rate of snow removal can actually be significantly reduced, even if the machine is not “officially” clogged. Another problem that occasionally happens is that the snow fall is followed directly with rain and then falling temperatures so snow clearing if not done before the freezing sets in becomes almost impossible. A track style domestic snow thrower that is capable of pushing quite hard cannot be coaxed to move through this kind of snow. When these types of conditions occur, it is generally necessary to attend to snow clearing before it just becomes too difficult to do unless you have equipment that is up to earth moving - like the OEM bucket on your Kubota. We are a long way from more civilized places where a sidewalk plow looks more like a street cleaner with a rotary brush sweeping away the snow in an almost calm wind. I have to admit that clearing fine powder like snow in low wind conditions is fun compared to what we usually have to face here.

    Paul I love the Maritimes in the summer , some fog but generally very nice,, but the winter no thanks. I will take our BC Kootenay weather instead. As for driveways , snow blowing vs plowing, I do both . Being in the mountains and a 600 ft 15 % slope driveway
    I plow down the blow the windrow over the bank. We seldon get that heavy wet slope you get, just in november and late march. It is mostly dry powder certainly not the terrible snow condtions you get in NFLD. Well done explanation for those who don't get snow.

    Hi Paul,
    It's been awhile. First, VERY glad you have recovered from your health scare. Glad you and Kathy are still kicking about and doing videos. When you post one, almost all of us appreciate it. I wouldn't take any criticism too harshly if I were you. As you stated, you've been doing this stuff a long time and have a wealth of experience.
    Them that CAN do it (you), does it. Them that CAN'T do it generally adds negative comments. The comments are probably worth what you paid for them.
    You two keep doing things YOUR way. It's a good way and there will always be people out to complain about it even under the best of circumstances. There are people who would gripe if you gave them $1,000,000 in coins because it would be inconvenient to take it to the bank.
    All the best to you and Kathy! My biggest question is how you good folks up in Newfoundland stay warm.

      Just wanted to comment on riding a motorcycle in NL, Canada. It is very treacherous when it finally gets warm enough to take your bike out again in late spring. All the snow clearing plus salting and sanding leaves a lot of residual sand buildup on the roadways. Before this gets washed away, riding a motorcycle requires far more caution when taking corners with any significant amount of lean - it is easy to lose grip when unexpected patches of sand are encountered.

    I’ve noticed that people today don’t fully think things through like they used to do. A girl at work decided to make fun of me for announcing over the headset that a certain job was done about 4 times during a 12 hour shift. She assumed I was doing it because I was just trying to make people think I was actually working. No… I was doing it for my coworkers. I did it so they didn’t waste several minutes going to that location just to see that it was already done. 😂 Woman lacks the ability to understand why people do things the way they do. It would have taken minimal critical thinking to understand what other options there would have been for me doing that. I’m ashamed of how foolish humans have become.
