President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Padma Awards to several prominent personalities on April 22, 2024. The awards are divided into three categories - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These awards are considered one of the highest civilian honours in the country and are given to individuals who have rendered exceptional service in various fields. The President had approved 132 Padma awards for 2024, comprising five Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 110 Padma Shri awards.

Most people achieve their best performance during 40 to 60 yrs. But in many cases Padma awards are given several decades after they have stopped working in their careers. Vyjayanthimala is 91 years old and she has acted in her last film some 50 years back. Many such awardees are gone and many are invalid. Sachin Tendulkar got Bharat Ratna when he as 41. Award is an inspiration for a person. It would be much better if genuine persons are given awards at the peak of their career so that they can feel recognized and may share their expertise with others.
