  • Best cure for the weekend hangover? Fishing before work! Took my travel setup and some camo Gulp! sandworms to a new spot and landed a few. Understanding weather, tide, and surf conditions will help improve your chances even when you have limited time to cast some lines. I wish I had a smaller, sharper hook at the ready to improve my hookup ratio, but I'll take what I can get, I ain't complaining.

    Great video! Thanks for that rig suggestion of doing a detachable Carolina. I always hated having to do a regular Carolina and then swap to my LC or SP minnow because it was more work to have to keep swapping and then back to the Carolina or drop shot.

      yessir, np! i hated cutting my main line every time, and the detachable c-rig just makes sense. i'm modular now - i can swap out c-rig, hi-lo rig, lures, etc anytime, no more cutting.

    Omg you have the same idea as me for the sinker. I have a 3 oz, 2 oz, 1.5 oz and 1 oz all setup and easy to switch depending on the surf and wave action. Youve finally won my subscription. Btw i call this the Guam Carolina rig where you have detachable weight attachments.

    1. I have always come away with some tasty fish from that beach. 2. I knew what was going to work at the end. LOL. I do that a lot. I like the bigger reels for that. Sooner or latter we will hook up and have some fishing fun. Tight lines Youngen.

    I use the same reel but the Ugly stik Elite 7 footer. You are more productive using a High/Low drop shot ( dropper loop ). Octopus hooks give you way better hook set than what your using. Nice video.

      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NFiltr8Red thx for the tips. i usually use a hi-lo in steeper or rougher waters. i usually run a mosquito or baitholder hook but ill give the octopus hook a shot... what size do you recommend?

    • @NFiltr8Red
      @NFiltr8Red 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ish With Fish , the smaller the better. Think it's a 4 that I am using. I use barbless simply because even if they swallow it it's still easy to remove.

    Enjoying your videos. About the rig, I myself use a sliding weight, bead and swivel snap. Then My pre-made leaders have an overhand knot so I can swap them out easily. I never cut the main line either. That's the same, right?

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Carlos Mangrobang is your sliding weight on the main line?

    • @carlosmangrobang5629
      @carlosmangrobang5629 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ish With Fish yes, sliding weight on main line.

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Carlos Mangrobang ok so i have no sliding weight on mainline. it goes mainline>swivel>my 12" detachable fluoro leader with sliding weight>leader/hook. this way, i can detach the whole sliding weight and hook assembly, and clip in another rig/lure to main line. no more cutting👍

    That's a real smart idea for a quick, swappable C-rig. I've been tying my main line to an anglers clip then attaching whatever terminal rig i've pre-tied, to that. The only setups I hadn't been able to avoid cutting and re-tying were the c-rig and other fish finders, but I'll give this a try now.
    Still don't know how you avoid getting your leader wrapped up all around your weight, mang. Even with actively reeling in right after casting out-- and on calm days as well-- I can't seem to keep my leader from wrapping up around my main line into essentially a damn FG knot. 😐😐😐

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the Modular C-rig! i'm gonna make a comprehensive surfperch vid, and formally introduce this rig to the world lol. it just makes sense, surprised i don't see people doing it already. can swap out c-rigs, hi-lo rigs, lures, etc without cutting.
      to help avoid tangles, pinch your line and pop your rod a bit as the egg splashes down, and immediately retrieve. you might tangle still (the c-rig loves to roll in side wash), but at least you're eliminating casting tangles. i'm finding increasing leader size (thickness) helps reduce tangles too. try 20lb fluoro next time.

    It looks like the Penn conflict? Can I use 50lbs braidfor that surf fishing with carolina rig and worm. Thanks

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yup, 2500 size. for surfperch, 20 lb braid is fine. light enough for little perch bites and strong enough to handle surprise stripers. trust me, i've caught a few small ones by 'accident', this setup handles them np.

  • @fishingwithethan8919
    @fishingwithethan8919 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    usually with my experience when the pearch are their and bitting the bite are almost immediate but some times it is hard to set the hook on the little ones so sometimes its a nightmare to use bait

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yup, those little bait stealers can be a headache. i'm gonna try super tiny fly hooks one day and see if those work.

  • @ericcruzstealth
    @ericcruzstealth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ish i dare you to use a 3 oz egg weight on your carolina rig. You will thank me afterwards. Reasoning, i suspect it cuts through the sand making fish more attracted to the commotion and more importantly you can really feel when the bite goes down on a 3 oz as compared to a 1 or 2 oz also make sure its braid and a sensitive rod

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      great idea, although most of my perch rods are only rated to 1.5 oz ... are you able to through 3 oz ok with your perch gear?

    • @ericcruzstealth
      @ericcruzstealth 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ish With Fish yes im fine throwing 3 oz with gear. Im not sure about long term like over a year or so but definitely for a week or two its fine and mine is also rated for less weight

    • @nutsack-1904

      Eric Almarinez surf perch are at all beaches pretty much.

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah i see no reason why not. most ca beaches hold surf perch, unless it's super rocky or full of seaweed. your best bet are sandy, wide open beaches, and try to go during an incoming tide in the morning or while it's overcast.

    What rod are you using in this video almost looks like a Blackhawk 2

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's a modified BlackHawk 1 (i have a vid where i make 5 modifications to improve it). the BlackHawk 2 has single foot guides, thinner tubes, and doesn't seem sturdy enough for surf casting like the BlackHawk 1 is.

      thx bro, the vid also proves your modded rod can feel the tiny taps of tiny perch. also notice i was using both hands to scale those rocks in the beginning? rod was tucked up in my backpack, outta the way. love that thing.

      Ish With Fish yeah I saw that you were using the travel rod. I bought the Sougayilang version so my wife and I could both have a travel. Maybe I should try my hand at modding that, now that I have an example.

  • @nutsack-1904
    @nutsack-1904 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sup Ish! Pretty sweet idea with the detachable Carolina rig. I made a high low rig with a swivel snap at the end for the weight so if I want to switch to a lure like a kastmaster I would attach it where the weight would be and I take the hooks out and its ready. PK Yi dries his sandworms, have you seen his video on it?

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thx man. what i forgot to mention in the vid is that i made this detachable so i can indeed switch out to a hi-lo rig or lure, depending on bite, structure, etc. yup, i've seen PK mention his dry worm technique, i gotta try it! kinda sick of losing fresh worms to bait stealers lol.
