Hello friends I started playing this weapon yesterday, if you springboard into a fan shot you can follow it up by jumping backward and firing a basic shot in midair which will launch you right back to the spring board allowing you to follow up with another fan
Easiest way to build up heat. Use the Celestial Thread to Jump forwards, shotgun blast (left click), then jump forwards again and shotgun blast again. Let yourself be pushed back and roll before you initiate the second jump and you will have just enough heat to fire off a Fortified Ki Base. You can actually see when the heat gauge stops filling, that's when you're free to jump again, if you do it too quickly you will not have enough heat. (The shotgun blast also doesn't consume any ammo) The great thing about the celestial thread is it's super easy to aim where you jump so you can hit the monster both times with the shotgun blast, then quickly splash out a Fortified Ki Base without even thinking about the aim most of the time.
Yikes. This was the weapon I was most looking forward to trying, but this looks genuinely awful. It's like if HBG could only shoot Normal 1s and had to rely completely on Wyvernheart (that's also locked behind a GU GL heat gauge) just to deal actual damage. Worse yet, the Bow can deal almost twice its damage in half the time with half the effort and without any movement restrictions. Who looked at this and thought that it was ok?
@@MTart96 Yeah, and judging by the fact that every weapon but the katana is the same as this in regards to massively front-loading all of their damage into one attack, I doubt that it will ever be changed. For whatever reason, this was fully intentional by the developers. The whole core of this game's combat is fundamentally broken and would have to be reworked from the ground up.

You forgot Torch. It speeds up heat, only needing 55% of the shots normally needed. It's faster than glider, so if you don't have aggro it's the better karakuri.
Damn I'm a gunner usually in monster hunter but the way they fucked this up is massive yeah cool we get big Lazer but everything else is useless no other ammos no difference play spring is useless we are slower than in monster hunter it seems like they absolutely hate gunners and wanted to make it as tedious and slow as possible you have to hit a direct hit with a slow mortar absolutely they had a team that hates gunners on the team for this weapon

Honestly, the only bad thing about cannon is the speed. If they made it a bit faster it would be perfectly fine. Every weapon can spring and walk to it instantly, cannon should be able to do it too. That's my only complain about specifically the weapon I have and that's as a solo hunter. Group would also help, since you can share aggro.
The ion cannon rotation is so janky. I prefer just building up heat and jumping off a box tower or stake for a charged attack. Decent damage and much more straight forward.

So listen, if you're going to do a video like this, you should probably get better at understanding how the weapon works in real time fights. The cannon is OP so if you learn to maneuver with it using the Karakuri, this weapon will carry you through the game.
I wonder if there are skills that enhance the cannon such as faster movement, longer crit distance, etc. I know in some MH communities there was discussion on how OP the HBG was because of the block and spread damage combo with the Zinogre HBG at the time.

I think it's more to do with monsters than the weapon itself. My experience so far feels like every monster has a "attack, 1 second, repeat" that makes it really hard for heavy weapons to find a window. It also feels like, aside from bow dodge, the game wants you to dodge with spring rather than actual dodging most of the times.
Honestly, kinda terrible design. It’s basically charge blade set up (phials, sword, shield) but you’ve got no defensive measures and after one use of the laser you’ve gotta set up all over agains
I don't think this is true. My tests show that I do the same damage whether I have full heat or not. The only time the laser does less damage is if I use it outside of a Ki-Base in which case the laser will not last as long due to not replenishing the ammo.
R2+triangle to pick up red zone, then I think it's either triangle or R2+triangle to fire it. You'll know you can do it when your weapon is shiny after picking up the red zone.
I dislike that you have to run to the fortified ki base instead of it automatically powering up the next one. Like such a small change would make this feel less ass?

No fucking clue. Like I don’t even think this is something that can be patched. Its foundation needs to be redesigned

You mean besides the fact it has the hardest hitting move in the game, cannon is great even more so in a team.

It's not nearly as bad as this dude is making it out to be. Sure, it can get annoying, but the damage output is well worth it

Trying to solo golden tempest with cannon is such a pain in the a s s, I stopped using it the claw blade is so much better for late game fights

The karakuri are your defensive options
You can use Karakuri to quick cancel the Ki Bases making mobility much better!

Also build your heat before laser it actually ups the laser dmg if it's in high heat.

So I'm trying on the ps5 controller and can't do the Lazer
R2+triangle to pick up red zone, then I think it's either triangle or R2+triangle to fire it. You'll know you can do it when your weapon is shiny after picking up the red zone.
And the crate jump shot you also want to do with heat
