I grew up in Freehold, NJ,and Great Adventure was 15 minute drive from us,so had an annual pass and I loved going through the Safari.Back in the day,some roofs had vinyl on them,and the baboons would rip the shit out of them!
In the 70's, wasn't there a place called Jungle Habitat? Vinyl tops were not safe there either.
I grew up in Howell! I remember my father losing his mind as the monkeys attempted to rip off the fake wood paneling of our Buick station wagon hahaha!

Pretty accurate description, I grew up in Jackson so I know it well. I took my kids through the safari when you could still drive your own vehicle through, and had to witness ( along with my 5 and 6 year old) male baboons pleasuring themselves! I couldn't believe what I was seeing...try coming up with a story to explain that one.

Having grown up in NJ & been to the Safari Park several times, this brought back some great memories. Laughed til I couldn’t breathe!
My earliest memory is going through the Six Flags Great Adventure Safari Park, and monkeys jumping up on the roof of our Jeep.

The baboon story is absolutely true. When I was a kid, my aunt and uncle and cousins were from Westfield New Jersey, and took us up there to great adventure for the zoo, and then the park. Not more than five minutes after we drove in, the baboons were on the cart, trying to tear off anything they possibly could. They actually tore off my uncles radio antenna. They are absolutely brutal lol.
When I was a kid we went to African Lion Safari, in southern Ontario, the monkeys and baboons were tearing vinyl off vinyl roofs to get to the glue

Great Adventure Safari hasn't changed. They used to have people shooting baboons with pellet guns. If you had a pink bullet rapid repeating paintball gun, you'd really make their day.

It’s hilarious because he’s not even exaggerating about the baboons 😂 I will never forget being 6 or 7 years old driving through the baboons at the end it was terrifying. Me and my sisters were legit traumatized 😂😂😂

Been to that safari park several times. Saw baboons having sex on one persons trunk with kids in the car. I saw a baboon rip someone’s windshield wiper off of the car and then proceed to beat the car with it. I saw rubber trim around the windows ripped off. When you exited, there was a pile of car parts sitting there…. Good times.

Don’t remember the name of the drive through zoo in was in NJ I believe in the Ringwood NJ area. I had a new 72 Camaro LT and yes the Baboons attacked my car and tore off my side view mirror.
