the circlip in the free wheeling housing is a PITA to re-install. be careful it doesnt spring off and go "boing" into the shed or garden somewhere. a conventional external clip with two holes for normal circlip piers would make it so much easier. the 54mm socket is also 2-1/4" exactly

I fitted the wheel bearing race for a MK2 Hilux by using an old starter motor with the solenoid removed. I think the race was some thing like 83mm diameter and the starter was a mill or 2 under. The starter body was soft steel so didn't damage the race, and by hitting the shaft of the starter it drove it in dead straight.

In ref to the position of the spindle gaskets: I have a FJ 60 series workshop manual which clearly shows a gasket between the swivel housing and the spindle. Makes perfect sense. But it also shows the other gasket positioned between the dust cover and the dust seal plate...not as you have done with the gasket between the outer face of spindle and dust cover. Other mechanics have done it your way as well and this is the way that I have also done it...but it puzzled me why the need for this gasket at all ! ...hence why I looked in the 60 series manual. (Note: that the difference between these series of LCrusiers are negligible. Any comments?

This is an excellent video, and my go to instruction for working on my ute's front wheels. I think the under-appreciated bit of equipment in this video is the car hoist. What a joy it would be to be able to do this work standing up, with parts easily accessed instead of lying in the dirt unable to get into position to access bolts. I think this goes part way to explaining why an hour long video instruction takes me the better part of a day to complete at home.

Abraham Pitman it took two days to film. I’ve come a long way from working on my own driveway in the dirt where there was a shed not far away but the roof was so low you couldn’t lift the bonnet. It’s taken me 20 years to achieve this. Keep on keeping on mate and work hard and you can do anything.

Car hoist is the "secret weapon", I was working under my car changing the oil or something like that and a hammer fell off the bonnet latch support area in the middle of the grille area and hit me fair square in the "Jatz crackers", I then promptly head butted the front cross member and vowed that that was the end, no more groveling around on a wheelie board in the dirt, I got me a hoist............. one of the best tools I ever bought for the shed. Great video mate, excellent, very informative no rubbish. I liked the donning of the safety glasses at the appropriate time, perfect, you've got my vote
