  • Iommi's guitar solo after "Iron Man", live at Asbury Park, NJ on 8/5/1975. Includes "Orchid", some heavy riffing, a few stanzas of what would become "Rock N Roll Doctor", and "Don't Start (too late)" at the end. A great solo.

    Love Iommi's sound and the way he plays, just brilliant. I feel privileged to have met him twice and shook his hand once in 1989 Headless Cross tour and again early 90's Dehumanizer tour. Fucking love Sabbath from the first time i heard them in the late 70's as a little kid.

    I was there at Convention Hall. I barely remember it. We started drinking early and got to the Hall around 11am. We were in line on the boardwalk, a few rows from the doors. People started pushing and the rail broke off of the boardwalk and people fell onto the beach. It was funny as hell. Later, the cops opened the doors and hosed some people with mace, because the crowd was out of control. I can remember clearly before the show, but not so much during the show.

    Don't believe me then .I could care less. But just look at what the people say .IOMMI IS GOD !! I don't like to compare people because what YOU like is the only important thing. Music, Film, Politics, Art It's all subjective. To me Black Sabbath is the greatest thing in music since The Beatles.Look how many groups try to sound them. I mean the whole 90's gloom and doom thing was all about old Sabbath Stoner Rock. Power Metal I mean i think it's evident in today's music.

    Page's ego got the best of him.he started out a really good player than he thought he could pick the guitar up at any time and start playing. Not so fast, Houses of the holy breath. You must practice, Practice, Practice And then practice some more .Page's sound deteriorated over the years along with HIS PLAYING til he turned into an embarrassment .Tony just got better over the years perfecting his sound and even inventing new guitars.He is one of the all time greats! THE METAL KING !!!

    I guess I mean his live playing .I started noticing it at the Atlantic records 40 years birthday bash.I just thought he was so sloppy.That was around'88 .A few other live things and on some bootlegs I wish i could remember. In Zep I had no Complaints....Man, Page was the shit in the early days with the later YardBirds and early Zeppelin.I thought he had such a great tone in those days.I thought Zep could have used an outside producer on their latter records.Ii didn't like that flat sound on P.G.

    I'm not sure what's so funny. I hope it's not because you think joget07 is just spewing nonsense, because he's not. His point is quite valid. If Page drank less Jack Daniels and did less heroin in the 80's, maybe his guitar skills wouldn't of gone to shit.

    • @LSUOdyssey
      @LSUOdyssey 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      in the 80s? dood started doing smack in 1975 maybe even earlier, his playing and clanky ass tone ruined what should've been Zeppelin's greatest year and still IS just based on reputation, hype & mythos alone. the 1975 Zepp shows are awesome but at some point as a guitarist I wanna just strangle Jimmy for how clanky, how pathetic he sounds fumbling over some easy solo.
      and then here's Tony Iommi going absolutely bonkers...with REAL tone. Jimmy sorta got his tone back in 1977 but his playing got even worse that year...as a huge Zepp fan these are just facts I must admit

    can somebody tell me the setting and effect that he uses?

    • @cannonfodder4507
      @cannonfodder4507 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He used Laney Supergroups, a modified '65 Gibson SG Special (P90 in the bridge position and a John Birch Simplux in the neck position). Also he used a Dallas Rangemaster treble booster. But as far as I'm concerned he never really used any effects like wah or delay live until the 80's or 90's. And I think he didn't use reverb, the reverb heard here is natural reverb in the venue. Late reply, but I hope it helped to some extent

    • @jarrodhoule8134
      @jarrodhoule8134 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cannonfodder4507 yes thats exactly what ive read as well, but I've been studying sabbaths live work 72-78 for a while now and somewhere around 75/76 iommy (and the rest of the band, 1977 even ward has effects) either started using some kind of compression/echo/chorus but on low probably to reduce noise, OR when he talks about having his rangemaster modified he never gives the date so it could be that also.

    • @jarrodhoule8134
      @jarrodhoule8134 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, cal jam 1974 iommi clearly used a tremolo, think he used it for the sabbath bloody sabbath tour. Iommi was always experimenting as he said in interveiws.

    • @cannonfodder4507
      @cannonfodder4507 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jarrodhoule8134 you're talking about a tremolo pedal, right? As far as I'm concerned Iommi didn't use any guitar with a tremolo until the 80's. I'm not sure though, his vibrato always sounded to me pretty close to a tremolo kind of vibrato, insane. But yeah I'm not sure about any pedals except for his Rangemaster. He did use some effects in the studio though

    well yes i agree with what you say about the whole 90's stoner metal vibe,. but the majority of people on here who say iommi is the BEST are mainly Metalheads,.
    What i really disagree with is that you say "page's playing deteriorated over the years" HOW?
    I mean sure In through the out door,. if you know much about his back catalog,. he had little input cuz he was completely off it on smack,. plus it was a change in the times and he was part of a band (zep) who varied their musical style loads

    nd your not the first to say he was sub-par at 88
    nd P.G was a mixed bag for me,.. there were some moments of pure brilliance,.. and others where it seemed to trail off a bit,.. you could see where some of the early studio out-takes just didnt really fit
