Hey, was there a misprint in the manual for the z790-e wifi II? You stated that the M.2_2 slot (lower-left) was running off the CPU. In the manual on page 1-10, it shows M.2_2 thru M.2_5 as running off the chipset. But, on page viii & top of ix, it shows M.2_1 and M.2_2 running off the CPU. Can you clarify cause this will have a big impact on which M.2 slot I use for my OS?
I've never seen one of those jumpers on a cpu header. Can you still overclock with it being in its original position? Or would you need to move it over to be able to overclock?
I bought a motherboard 'ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI II' and an SSD 'CORSAIR MP700 GEN5'. Upon reading the motherboard manual, it states that if I use the GEN5 SSD in the M2 slot compatible with GEN5, the main PCIe X16 slot of the video card, which is also GEN5, will run at X8 instead of X16. However, but, the '(G5)' is in parentheses, which leads me to believe that it will only switch to X8 when the G5 video cards are released and I use one of them. For now, I only have a 4070ti which is G4. If I place it in the G5 slot and also use the SSD in the G5 slot, will it run at G4 X16 even though it's in the G5 slot, or will it drop to G4 X8? If that's the case, would it be better for me not to use this main video card slot and instead use one of the other two secondary slots, which are GEN4 X16? Would there be a performance drop due to less power in the secondary slots? What is the best way to assemble these two components in this situation?
This board would be perfect if you could run PCIe5 on the M.2 while keeping x16 on the GPU. Unfortunately you need to run the SSD on x4 PCIe4 spec to maintain x16 on the GPU.
@dhmorey16 how many sticks you running? I had 4 x 16gb 5600 36, and have yesterday taken 2 out to see if it fixes it. Updated the bios last week didn't fix the issue. Need to tune and will see if it helps 🤷🏻♂️
@@gavlar111 I’ve tried with 2 and 4. Problem persists. I’ve checked the drivers, bios version, I’ve made sure all the cables are hooked up properly, the RAM is properly seated. The hottest my system runs is between 61°-67° so it’s not overheating. The only thing I can think of is it’s related to the motherboard
Finally found a board for two graphics cards and space for a capture card. Might have to have a liquid cooled graphics card as the main card since the regular 4090 is huge. Maybe MSI Suprim and a 3090/3080.
@ChristopherFlannigan do Asus motherboards have a protective sticker/label on the box? The one you use to see if somebody has already opened the box...
At 3:46 he says that this chipset (motherboard) is compatible with 12th, 13th, and now 14th Generation Intel CPU's. However, I'm gonna have to guess that you'll need the latest BIOS update handy to boot on 14th gen. I'm planning on pairing the i9-14900K with this board.
I've got this board on the way and going to install 2 (m.2) 2TB drives. Which slot do I use for Windows 11 and for my secondary drive, assuming slot 1 is empty because it'll be taken up by my 4090 gpu?
If its nvme ssds then they are mounted under the gpu so thr gpu wont be in the way, just installed 4 corsair mp600 lpx nvmes in first 4 slots.. they are under the GPU.. the GPU then sits on top and goes in the pcie slot..
I also have the board on the way. From the video, I think it would be best to install the drive (Gen 4) that will have Windows 11 on it on the left side of that long bottom heat shield. Christopher stated that "slot" runs off the CPU so that's what you want for your operating system drive. I'd put the secondary drive next to it on the right side. If, and when, you upgrade to a Gen 5 nvme, then you can just clone the Gen 4 drive with your operating system on it onto your Gen 5 drive. I've never done something like this but this is what other creators are planning on doing.
I don’t suppose you’ll build this in a Hyte Y70 by chance? Thanks for your continued in depth videos. They’re very informative and helped me build my first PC. 🤙🏽
Anyone that buys this motherboard with the intention of running fast RAM kits, keep in mind it won't run stable without some tweaking. This motherboard supposedly supports DDR5 speeds of 8000MHz and higher out of the box. I bought a G.Skill 8000MHz kit that is in the list of supported XMP memory kits, but with my 14900k, I had some real issues trying to get it to run stable at 8000MHz. XMP 1 blue screens, and XMP 2 is horribly unstable. It required a bit of tweaking.

No, The Letters after the Z790 indicate the Tier of the Motherboard. E being the Highest Tier of the Strix Motherboard lineup. They also have a I version which indicates a Mini ITX motherboard.
FWIW I have had a lot of issues getting this board to work well with my Team Group Delta 7200 DDR5 ram in XMS mode even though the RAM is on the QVL list at that speed. I cannot get the ram to run reliably at 7200MT/s which it is rated at under XMS but the ram works perfectly at 5600MT/s and 6000MT/s. Also about 1 in every 8 PC boots the motherboard will not recognise the ram and throw up a BIOS 55 error. Then as soon as I reboot it recognises it and boots normally. I've tried the usual eg. reinstall the cooler, check CPU socket pins, I've also swapped ram and tried different slots. The recent BIOS update to this motherboard has reduced these issues somewhat but I am still having issues. I suspect the BIOS in this new motherboard is undercooked and needs a bit more work.
Just check the socket. im pretty sure that Z790 motherboards only support intel CPUs so just search rog strix z790-f gaming wifi socket on google and if it says anything other than LGA1700 it wont work
