Nice run through on those tools. I had a small home machine shop and motorcycle shop and lost absolutely everything when a fire started by the utility company burned our entire town. Five years later and I'm still slowly trying to replace things. Needless to say a quality tool at a reasonable price is very important to me. Thanks for the great information. Love your channel and all the great videos, i appreciate the time you spend making them for us.

I am glad Ivan addressed what happened. Sad that a father was killed in front of his family because of a total lack of security, as more information comes out. I have a 2014 Duramax, the Top don top scan runs most if not all the same tests as the dealer scanners. I had "def quality" problems caused by a low performing injection pump and this tool helped find the problem and then clear the codes and mph restrictions after repairs. The only complaint would be that you have to use your phone and monitoring multiple systems means constantly scrolling the screen. It would be better if you could connect thru a laptop with a bigger screen where you can see more data at the same time. Maybe even be able to select the data you want to monitor.

Ivan, I bought that Topdon VCI dongle. It actually went cheaper after prime day. It was so worth it. Not only did I get a clean bill of health, minus the gateway being upset about the aftermarket radio. This thing tells you everything a $119 Firestone diagnostic scan could for less than half the price. Great choice showcasing it.

Nice work Ivan. Unfortunately that TC001 thermal camera is over $300 in Cold Canada. Lithium battery packs WILL lose power, or not be able to turn on in cold weather. Keep those indoors or warm when not needed in vehicle. Use a thermal insulated food bag when taking them in car, try put them near a heater vent, keep it in a small backpack and take it indoors with you when at work etc. Yes, thats a pain in the tuckus, but its better than a dead battery at minus 50 Celsius when it gets dark at 4pm and the wait for a tow or boost is 3-10 days. Stay gold.

Only problem is no auto auth. Will definitely check them out. As far as jump packs go i have a 2000 and a 3000 from avapow and really like them as well, but i like the idea of having one that does starting and charging test as well. I mean if you are using a jump pack then usually the next mive is to start doing testing on thise systems anyways so why not have one with all of that built in and be able to save the report for the customer. Great idea.

Is the Topdon TopScan you have the Lite version or the Pro version? Your Amazon line takes us to the Lite version?

I think so but that gives updates too. I'm not sure if they 'brick' the device if you don't update. Honestly one could just wait til they need one and just buy a new one.
And sometimes, as Ivan pointed out, they update something and screw it up.

The scantool that updated and you hate it. You should be able to downgrade the os. MANY of ways may be done. Ex edit the version installed lower version that is lower than one you like, then update via local file to ver # you want. It's Android based/clone, look for a SD card slot or remove the back cover, see if a sd card is in it. Connect it to PC looking through the hidden files.
The one that has the OS version you like see if you can back it up to PC

Does the Launch and/or Autel work with 99-04 Grand Cherokee PCI Bus? Does it work on the WJ to program keys, fobs, and read ABS and transmission codes? I need one badly that will work for these things but am just a DIYer and want it to be a good unit that will last me! None of their websites list the WJ :(

I was so sold on the ThinkTool ProS, but now hesitant again. (Topdon was second, but seems to keep having problems)

Hey Ivan - I am looking forward to buying the mini scanner from topdon and may have my brother carry this to India. Do these have the software for Indian car models like Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Mahindra or the indian Variants for global models like Skoda, VW and Toyota?

Question on the Autel scanners. I assume the scanner will still function after the subscription expires, you just won’t receive any more updates. Is that correct?

Correct. My previous shop had one that they stopped buying updates for and it was still operational.
