    We've started multi-sowing beets like Charles Dowding does. For me the best part of the beets are the greens. Small leaves in salad or larger leaves with stems trimmed, steamed and enjoyed with a bit of butter and vinegar. So tasty and good! That is not to say I don't eat beets, I just like the greens the most. Pickled beets are a favorite around here too. Thanks for the quickie! Have a great Thanksgiving weekend.

      Right on Kevin! If you prefer the greens, try growing Chard.....its ALL greens. Much more prolific than the beets! Cheers buddy. :-)

      I've grown Chard too. I like the ribs sauteed and I'll steam the leaves but nobody else here is really a fan of the chard leaves. It is one of the hardiest most prolific greens I know of. My first year growing chard even heavy snow didn't bother it at all. Cheers!

    I usually don't direct plant them in the garden. I start the seeds inside the house in early spring (April) and then transplant them in the garden by the 3rd week of May. My harvest was great every Summer. Thanks for sharing your tips though. I'm sure this info will be beneficial to a lot of new gardeners out there. Your subscriber from Buffalo, New York.

    Think, just put a seed where you want to grow it . Spaced . Multi seed is going to give many plants. That little care at seed planting, can save a lot of snipping off later. Your a star Jeff.

    • @user-wq3jp3qg1o
      @user-wq3jp3qg1o ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as a teenager back in the 70’s I worked at a nursery transplanting vegetables. Everything a nursery transplants can be done. Beets however need separated early right after sprouting as the roots grow separately. Maybe 1 week after sprouting. No more! I do it every year. Just make sure it’s during the early rain period and the ground is continually moist. Water if necessary. I always plant Detroit red. They are a great hardy strain and viable. Good luck. Also.....you can seed them in your garden every (day) or week up until 7wks. Before first frost. The greens are also best cooked in alttle butter sautéed ( never discard them) they are delicious!
