It gets worse, Bob. Having spent a week learning Acrobat Pro (I used to use an old version) I'm staggered by its non-intuitive, even obtuse, approach. The tools layout is a mess - the tools page brings up a page of cheesy icons like something out of a kiddies book - and the posters can't be used with MP3's (as far as I can see). The program's native play buttons are horrible and I couldn't constrain them with the shift key. Attempts to edit them after the event just distort the whole thing. If you try to colour (color) a rectangle the default setting is 'transparent'. What?? It's a thoroughly nasty program. I've been on Macs since 1988 but it could all be my fault, I suppose. Thanks again!
After inserting the audio, it only plays when you view the PDF in Acrobat Reader, not if you view the PDF in a browser. Is there any way to make this work on the browser as well?

Which "default" media player does Not pop up (become visible - as per your video example) when playing the sound file embeded in the PDF .... AND .... works for PDF's viewed/played/created on either windows or Mac machines?

But apparently there are a lot of problems of compatibility - audio files can only be read in the latest versions of Acrobat but can't be played in any browser... The process seams fairly straight forward however when I retrieve the pdf with the embedded MP3 after I saved it, the MP3 is missing, it is not there, not embedded anymore. What am I doing wrong?
Instead of creating a button, can the same thing be achieved using a line of text? Update: Yes it can, add the text to the PDF and then drag the create button over the text as was demonstrated using the picture.

Am now trying to repeat exactly the same steps but cannot get the results: the audio clips won't play after embeded with the RichText button.... only thing that seems to have changed is the version of AcrobatPro, which is more recent. Yes, it only work in Adobe. That's the MS way. As for audio files, WAV files are lossless. Meaning, the recording is exactly as it sounds with no compression or other alterations. MP3 is considered a "lossy" format which means some data is lost in the compression method. Can make some stuff sound crappy.

Ok.. So I've edited my pdf on my pc. And when I synced it with my iPod, it doesn't play the audios! The buttons doesn't even appear. What did I do wrong?
You did nothing wrong, and most likely the PDF is still interactive. But ONLY in adobe Acrobat. It's one of the Microsoft tricks, and why Adobe Reader is a fat pig of a software. Essentially, your iPod is viewing the PDF as an image rather than an interactive file.

Try adding sound instead of adding button, It allows mp3 format.

check your mapping, that's typically the issue.

This is sooo helpful - but when I go to fill color to transparent, there is no transparent box to check... any suggestions of what I could do?

FoxIt might be able to do it. Free app in the App Store.
Other way is simply to hyperlink from the PDF to TH-cam.
