Poor Charlie and those bossy ladies! Completely unfazed, good boy. My mare has lived by mini-donkeys, big donkeys and mules and has done fine. But, if she sees a mule being ridden down the road she freaks out!

If they don't grow up together, it's typical. Do watch the turn out so Charles doesn't have to be defensive. I've often wondered if it's a difference of scent that promotes guarding. I've questioned mixing breeds of Donkey, yet they don't befriend each other, instead they banned together. Enjoy spring, it's so nice to see as ours is attempting to crest. 🇨🇦
i relate so much to charlie, we have the same name and we don’t like other donkeys/humans very much lmao. i just don’t have the adorable ears of a donkey :(
I'm wondering if some horses 'don't like' donkeys because they're simply not used to them and they see them as strange and therefore something to be feared. Perhaps a bit like humans staring (or hopefully trying not to stare) at another human being who is significantly different. It's usually just a case of getting used to seeing the strange one or interacting with them. Also, wondering if your Connemaras, being an Irish breed, are completely acclimatised to donkeys. Not necessarily yours in particular (they may have been bred in England) but the breed itself may have some kind of genetic memory!
